nuke ET! not. I was an MM2/SS/DV. I was an aft mechanic but designated in RL div (chemistry/radiation guy). I got sent to dive school and got to be the first one out when the ship surfaced out at sea since I was qualified rescue diver and radiation technician.... U can imagine, being the only one up on the deck aboard a nuclear submarine while the ship is cruising thru the med checking out the scene. now I work outages as a Radiation Protection Tech at nuclear power plants 6 months a year, take the other 6 off. how about you, besides dropping 50 grand at a time on vehicles! you were an A-ganger huh? some of those guys could do anything, anywhere, anytime in any condition. sweet.

I got completely away from things that glow in the dark....You are a radtech, eh....I guess you have a thing for bright yellow poly booties I'm in utility systems and I love it. I worked for years as a boiler and PV inspector for machinery insurance and state law enforcement( www.nationalboard.org ), then settled into my third and last career...I'll be here till I die....Man, if I only worked 6 months a year, I'd not want to go back to work after 6 off.

yeah, it is hard to go back to work after so much time off, but it is only 3 months at a time, not 6. I work 3, take 3 off, that type thing. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't be doing this, but I love having 3 months off in a row! that and the travel.

I just noticed yesterday our local Ford dealer has managed to almost empty his lot of new Ford trucks....He was overloaded with them just two weeks ago...Ford decided to relax the financing requirements and allowed zero financing for just about everyone no matter how bad their credit....That was a pretty bold move and reveals how bad the new truck market is right now.

It could be that people are tired of Ford's attitude toward their customers. Ford decided to design a circuit for shutting down the cruise control that was supposed to only allow 1.5 amps to the switch itself. They ran 15 amps to that switch. This causes the switch to eventually overheat and even catch fire. Since it is within a foot of the intake it can cause some cool fireworks. Just don't ever park a ford too near the house, we almost lost ours.

Aside from the poor quality control and horrible customer service, they do design good cars and trucks. If mine had been on the recall list I would have disabled that circuit and would still have that beauty today. It was great to drive and drove even better with a ton of payload in back.

Wow!....That's a sad story!...I'm going to go out n check my Ford dually and see what's up with that circuit...I paid cash for it and don't carry comprehensive/fire insurance on it...Maybe I should tho, huh?

My 74 Power Wagon with a 440 smogger in it blew a rod. I had a kid renting from me that worked with a local racing team and was a mopar expert. So we went down to a salvage yard and was poking around. A 69 Chrysler Imperial was sitting there with the long hood saying look at me!! We popped the hood and Andy oh *** a 383...Yea!!! I took the oil filler cap off and wiped a finger to see if there was still any oil on the valve cover. Just a smidgen but it looked clean Didnt smell any burning..
So I asked the guy whatcha want for that 383 Oh Id take 150 Give ya 100 Ok We hauled it home and andy was scratchin on the block You SOB YOU SOB &&***I been looking for one of these for 20 years. Its a police intercepter OH S^%^^ I pulled the heads and he said u gotta grind em.. How? You gotta a rattail file Yea... We ground the handle down so it would fit in a drill. I spent 40 days grinding the ports out in the heads Then took them down and had them boiled.. He ordered all the heavy duty parts for a mopar dual timing chain big oil pump and other stuff including total over haul parts. I had to use the oil pan off the 440 and it increased the oil capacity to about 8 quarts.
We worked on it about 2 months when we had time.. I even bought some regular dodge engine paint .. We very carefully put everything together and he was the most meticulous mechanic I had ever seen... Finally the big day came and I put in a fully charged battery...It coughed sputtered and fired and smoked like a banshee for a minute then started idling like a kitten. I nursed it around town awhile never revving it Next weekend Ok lets go try it out We went out to the cement plant road 2 lane oil.... I stopped He said Ok stomp it. It squalled for a second then the 4 wheel drive kicked in....It would lay you back in the seat.. I run it for a couple of years and if you didnt stomp it all the time the gas mileage went from about 8 to 16.. Doing 60 down the road it would be idling...

Ollie, I'd like to know if you don't mind tellin' m what the ballpark price was for getting the intercepter to finish.
Keith, let me know if the dually has that same issue with its cruise control shutt-off switch.

A few things Chuck There is a little spacer for the distributer to change it over to solid state ignition. I used the 4 barrel of the 440 and put a carb kit in it. The increased oil capacity is a (@$%!) at oil changing time but it doubles the life of the engine. That kid had a special way of sealing with #2 durabond on one side of the gasket and that gold stuff on the other. There is an oil breather crossover you want to open up...Plastiguage or mic everything in it and when you boil the heads have them mic them for plane...

I just realized that I never said whether I agreed or disagreed with buying the truck in the OP of this thread.
I say why the heck not?

Keith, let me know if the dually has that same issue with its cruise control shutt-off switch. Well, so far the NTSP site says the recall is only for gas engine F-350 of my year, not diesel engines....The recall was issued 2 months ago, BTW....I'm still gonna keep digging.

I don't wanne step on any toes here but I want to ask this question. If you go Nnuke in the Navy and are from the south, would that make you a bubba-head rather than a bubble-head?
I almost went into the Nuke program but I thought Data systems was the way to go. I never stopped to think that I could do that on a sub.

I got a question too.. How come a brand new vehicle sits in the driveway slowly falls apart paint fades tires rot it blows up and you can throw a beer can out by the side of the road and 10 years later its still there just as bright as it ever was.

I'll bet it has something to do with Murphy's Law.

All I can say is if you decide to go submarines, stay forward of frame
57.....Them nuke guys are, er....Let's just say they ain't normal....They grow hair in weird places and make odd noises and twitch alot.
The nukepukes learned to stay away from A-Gangers and Torpedomen cause we would capture them and wrap them head to toe in EB green and just leave them balled up and rolling around somewhere....We once left a young nuke ensign tape balled on the wardroom table....The skipper walked in and ignored his grunts n squeals, poured a cup of coffee and walked out....He was still there when the stewards setup for chow, so they just carried him out to the crew's mess where his division rescued him.....he had no hair left once they got the tape off.
EB green tape is the absolute best duct tape ever made....It's better than nails and epoxy.

John the farmer was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred
young layers (hens), called "pullets", and ten roosters, whose job it was to
fertilize the eggs.
The farmer kept records and any rooster that didn't perform went into the
soup pot and was replaced. That took an awful lot of his time, so he bought
a set of tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a
different tone so John could tell from a distance, which rooster was
performing.
Now he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report simply by
listening to the bells. The farmer's favorite rooster was old Butch, and a
very fine specimen he was, too.
But on this particular morning John noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at
all! John went to investigate.
The other roosters were chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing. The pullets,
hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.
But to Farmer John's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it
couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next
one.
John was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the Renfrow County Fair
and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.
The result...The judges not only awarded old Butch the No Bell Piece Prize
but they also awarded him the Pulletsurprise as well.
Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician
could figure out how to win two of the most highly coveted awards on our
planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and screwing them
when they weren't paying attention?
