How many of you do In-House advertising during your show?  Do you post up flyers, banners, signs either promoting your show, karaoke company, or an upcoming event? Or what about bar promotions--jello shots, dinner specials, upcoming bar, drink specials. Do you make announcements throughout the evening?

Here's what I've taken to doing at my wednesday and sunday shows and probly will have the weekenders do also: I bring in an old Sony super-8 camcorder I got a a pawn shop for 20$. The record mechanisim is broken but the pic is fine. I have it hooked up the the main video switch unit. On screen of one of the TV's by the DJ station I tape up printed signs of specfic events(Sunday Salsa dancing, Birthday party sign-ups, etc). Also we have a neon karaoke Bud-light sign that looks really cool on screen. Between singers (not on singers as this is too much of a distraction to the singers), the camera is switched on to all the karaoeke monitors and then we have ON-SCREEN VIDEO ADVERTISING! I can switch between several different signs throughout the night and swing the camera around on the crowd if there a dance set happening or if someones doing a blw-job shot or any other interesting thing. Not on singers tho--video is on different switch setting. It doesnt interfere with singers and DOES give a really neat look to the place with advertisements on all eight of ourmonitors. Its cheap, just need a tripod, an old camera a RCA cable and maybe an RF Modulator. It also gives the capablitity of hooking up a VCR and recording a video with sound if we have a band or someone asks special ahead of time to do that or if we have a special event like a dance contest for instance. So i just rotate the cam between several "IMPORTANT MESSAGES FROM OUR SPONSORS" thougout the evening.

Anyone else doing anything like this?

I also post signs in the bar and outside in the beer garden.

The bar has a scrolling LCD sign that advertises karaoke. Plus
I have an advertisement on my tv screens in between songs.

It never fails somebody will come up and ask me when I'll be there next.  LMAO

I have a scrolling LCD on my mixer box.   Has messages and all of the bar locations flashing by every 5 minutes.   It's a silent advertisement.   I do not advertise other bars on the microphone.    It gets some of the bar owners alittle upset.    I have posters that are laminated, to hang in the restrooms and around the bar.   I have full page color ads in the middle of the song books for each bar.    These include bar speacials and other entertainment the bar has, plus a map to the bar.     The monthly calender is on the back of the song book.     I personally hand people my calenders.    They are welcome to take them out of the book, but most don't.

I never have blue screen between singers to put anything on the TV.

I do the restroom signs also. Is the scroll unit a separate machine or is it the mixer board itself? Kind of like you see on the times square message boards or dow jones ticker? The middle of the book thing is a good one too--I might start doing that for bar special type stuff. I also use my add space in the entertianment mag I write for to advertise/promote various events I host or EMCEE.
