He had three choices. Shearwater, and greenwood were our second and third choices. Cold lake was his first. (i wanted NS though).

We didn't get any of those.... yet single 19 year old boys will now be living 10 f'n minutes from my FAMILY back home, while our FAMILY get to be dropped somewhere crappy, and forced to adjust. I know you all probably think i am acting infantile... I just... all YEAR we were told that Justy would probably get one of his choices, not only because he was top of his class, but because we were the ONLY family in the program.... now we find out he gets NONE of his choices, and there really is nothing you can do. No appeal. NOthing. He was told to "write a memo". Yeah. Realy helpful.

(Timberlea... do you live in timberlea?)

Gilly I have the perfect pick me up movie for you.
Guarrenteed to pick up a girls spirits.

Dirty Love is a 2005 comedy film, written by and starring Jenny McCarthy

After your daughter goes to school pop it in the dvd player. You'll want to get the
uncensored version, not for kids eyes.

Your hubby needs to speak to his commanding officer and see if an arrangement can be made. He can go through his Top NCO first...

aww Gilly, I'm so sorry! That really sucks! And not goin to Cold Lake means you can't visit ME either (which of course, it's the WORST part of the whole situation ;))

I hope everything turns out better than you expect

LOL @ crystal.....  I will tell you in private WHERE we are getting sent, and I KNOW you will understand:)

Turns out, there is a huge tech shortage where he is getting sent, which is why they are sending them. THey just sent an entire AVN course there a bit ago.. but why JUSTY. Out of HIS whole course, they are ONLY sending HIM.

He talked to several people today, but was told  "the career manager won't change it. she said somone in the family would have to be sick and need to be near a hospital or somehing like that to change an official posting"

Yeah, lotsa fun... I called the school sky will be going to there... turns out, it is over an HOUR on the bus to get there, twice a day, there and back. Kill me. and poor her. That is a LONG day for a 4 year old:(

Just out of curiosity, how long does Justy have to stay in the military?  Is he dead set on staying in it? Is there anything else he might like to do instead?

Gilly, sorry to hear about it.  As a former personnel officer I can understand how this may have occured.  I have been in the position of having to request a specific type of replacement personnel to fill out one of my platoons.  It wasn't always good news for the family although it would be a great opportunity for the service member.  Heck, I can remember being stationed where my best career opportunity was and my ex-wife hated it until we became established ... about one year.  We had to spend the first 6 months living out of a hotel room with a 4 yr old and a newborne because there was no housing available and it rained every single day for the entire 6 months.  But we ended up forming some of the best friendships we ever had there.

Buck up!  As we used to say, this is an opportunity to excel and what doesn't kill us makes us better.

Gilly. that's too bad.  :(

Years ago, my hubby worked for a company that sent him away every summer...... July through October usually. And even when he tried to get the job staying local, they would send him off. Like Justy, he was very good at what he did... which is most likely why they sent HIM there, rather than some new guy. He operated a Bartlett truck, sometimes in really strange spaces and conditions, and had to perform all mechanicals & maintenance on it too... and had to work 16+ hour shifts. I hated it. I went with him, but never saw him very much.... we stayed in hotels, never had dinner together, hell- never SLEPT together, he usually pulled night shift, I didn't KNOW anybody there, just my kids and the dang hotel maids I made friends with... I even had my 3rd baby there, with no family around... and he couldn't take time off at all. When my kids got old enough to start school, I finally put my foot down, and told him next time he'd be going without me. He told his employers he'd rather them be pizzed than be divorced, and we never had to go there again.  :D

You go down to that career manager's office, and you throw fits like you've never thrown before. Become SUCH a pain that they'll change your location just to get you to shut up. (hey... it works for me.... used to work on my dad.... and my school teachers... might be worth a shot)

But, you're made of tough stuff, this I know... and I think Skylah is too, from all you've told me. You will survive it. But yikes- no karaoke- would be rough. Just keep your chin up, and think of the tales you n' Skylah will have to tell later on. :(

That's 'cause Valley Girls need husbands too.

I live in Dartmouth only a 12-14 hour drive from you so come on down.

BTW that's what you get for marrying an Air Force type.  It could be worse, he could be out to sea for six months if he were Navy or in that other place for six months if he were Army.

Then again, there's always the option of living in a cardboard box on the side of a cliff in Tiajuana....

Gilly,

Please, look at it on the positive side, you'll be closer to me    Still unfair for you and your family, but I'm sure you'll love the place and it's really not the worst place to live, but of course I can understand it wasn't your choice, really sorry :(
