I just realized that you probably didn't follow Rob's link. He's not converting those ORGINAL FOOTAGE discs to a different format, like the impression it sounds like you have, he is recording MTV videos then creating lyric tracks over them and making CDGs with the two together, which is HIGHLY illegal if he is using them in his public shows.

Follow his HOMEMADE VCD link and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Gotcha... sorry 'bout that.

Pay karaoke...Like a juke box...You push the number of the song you want to sing and enter your name.  The machine calls you up and you sing.... A compnay then comes out and switches the disc out periodically to keep the selection fresh......

These are available now & are in use in some places.  However IMO, what fun is that?  Sure you may be able to go get a singing fix, but (that is unless there ARE a lot of singers) you won't have the atmosphere of the crowd & the encouragement of the applause.  You won't have the professional tailored sound to fit your voice - just a generic mic & a volume knob.

I would never want to sing at a "Jukebox Karaoke".  I need people, I like people and I love to flirt with the KJ's....(who am I kidding)and the customer's too...

I don't think there could ever be a machine that could replace the human factor....

Does anyone remember the automated video rental places about 10 years ago?  I don't think they went over very well and fizzled out....It was basically a very large vending machine for renting videos......

I don't think the "jukebox karaoke" will ever take off, it will go the way of the video vending machine and the automated check cashing machines......

Rob would face the same obstacles that the karaoke companies are facing now.   Obtaining the rights to the music is a major deal.    Now you want to use the concert video too.    Oh yes it looks real good, but what a legal nightmare for all involved.

A video jukebox would be more professional than some wannabe KJs.

I ran into the karaoke 'jukebox' thing originally in Honolulu back in the early '90s.  I have to agree that they had nowhere near the draw of a KJ and the music quality was poor.

Just think how big of a jerk you would look like, standing in the middle of a bar on a non karaoke day/night and you just started to sing to the box.   If you sucked, you would be lucky not to get beat up.  LMAO

The future of bar entertainment will be .....VARIETY

Music is always a great form of entertainment, whether it is Jukebox, DJ, Live bands or KARAOKE.  Bands are expensive, Jukeboxes offer no customer interactions, DJ's are usually AFFORDABLE but again off every little interaction which leaves KARAOKE
The best form of BAR entertainment (short of exotic dancers) --It offers MUSIC  / CUSTOMER INTERACTIONS  / FREE TO THE CUSTOMERS  / AFFORDABLE TO THE BAR . What else could a bar owner ask for ???

But I think it also has to entertain the NON SINGERS and other bar types (pool players, dart players, video gamers etc etc )

So my advise to KJ's to survive is be creative and diverse -
Play some dance music
Mix up those 5 SAD CRY IN YOUR BEER awful country slow songs in a row
Go ahead and juggle the rotation just a little to put a good old school rock song on there to wake up the crowd again and then back to BALLAD HELL  LMAO  LMAO
More crowd participation ...sure Karaoke is about the SINGER and THEIR SPOTLIGHT so you have to make their spotlight brighter ..EVERY SINGER LOVES when the entire bar gets into a song !!! ( KJ'S WORK THE CROWD) !!!

Now if I can only take my own advice I'll be fine    LOL  :oh yeah:

Yup... A year or 2 ago I quit singing them at my shows, then at other shows. Sing upbeat songs like vertigo or something and eventually most fall into the pattern..

I have the whole set of the Original Footage music karaoke.

That is a cool thing....too bad my primary karaoke player doesn't support VCD. So the music on these is the original artists as well??? Good quality??

I have a set of these in dvd also. I like the dvd format better.

My homemade VCD's are just for home. I wanted to see if I could do it. I don't use them on my rigs. I wish I could go legit with them but you would need a team of laywers working on it for you just to find out the ins and outs of it and that would cost a fortune.

Karaoke has survived this long, because it is the only form of entertainment created to entertain all age groups and all musical tastes at one time.

Nothing else can make that claim.

The crowd determines the show/song format.     They entertain themselves, with our help.   I won't get any better.

So until something else is developed to take over those shoes, karaoke will remain the king of entertainment. :worship:     I'll be a Crown Prince.  :O  LMAO

There are a few VCD/DVD karaoke with original artist in the vid and the singing. i have a 2CD of Air Supply karaoke, 2Cds of Bee Gees also original vid clip and songs, Richard Marx 14 song karaoke cd, backstreet Boys, Lobo, Abba, Carpenters. All are original artists.

The good thing about singing karaoke with this vcds is that you can mute the mic and ask the kj to use the stereo channel; man you will sound like the original singer. LOL

Note this is  from a life profomence when the group tour Asia.

Bee Gees, Abba, Carpenter is by Life Record,  a Singapore co.
Note they come in 2 cds

try acekaraoke for those vcds... you see them on ebay every now and then.

I had a few of the abba ones. They're done like "original artists" vcd/dvds
