Man, I dunno...I just bought one and installed it in a PC I sold a friend....I need to go over and install OS for him and get him online...I'll try to remember to try it then.

Oh, I thought you meant burners, not ROM's...Yeah, 2.50/each is real good even if they don't do CDG's!

I dunno, but in my experience so far, the actual player must have the ability too....typically plugins are devised to add extra functionality to a program, not hardware. If the hardware supports that function, then the plugin will allow application to use it.

Some player applications will only work with certain Drives in CDG mode, whereas a few others player applications will work with more Drives, but in the end, the drive must be capable for it to work no matter which program you select.

Keith, Most CD-ROM CAN read the subcode; I just checked mine and it says it can read. And it is a non brand cdrom.

Not most, but quite a few..

Here is a list of drives that will read subcode.

True, Matt.... but that was the quickest link I had..  LOL

I use Plextor drives normally, but $2.50 a drive was too hard to pass up.. :handshake:

I have a lite on dvd rom that reads the subcode. right now since my plextor bit the dust it is my importer.   as for playing outside cdg discs I would never use the rom inside my computer for that as it will wear the rom out.  besides you need a fast computer to do so as it hangs my rackmount with the one used with winamp.  if frank would release his I would concsider as the test version uses less resources than what is available now.

The rom will wear the rom out??????HUH??????

I have the CDG discplayer plugin for winamp (ver 5) running on a 500Mhz system with 128MB ram, and have NEVER had it hang up from playing a CDG disc.

Any CD reader/burner has a finite life.. It is after all, just a DC motor and some read write heads..

All things will fail.. Not to mention the "dust factor" on the laser lens...

I'd rather wear out a dvd player that plays cdg's than have to take out a cd-rom that wore out from use. But then again I have yet to need the dvd player so all in all I wasted $24.95 for the cdg disc plugin as it hangs evrytime I went to add music from the hard drive to the que when I tested it.  Did not have the issue with frank's alpha version, go figure. I guess I'll wait for kjamp before I 86 my dvd player.
