Was Pioneer the first one with cd?  It seems that was one of their claims...

I know nothing about laser disks. Early 80's a stereo store had a laser disk on a projection television playing on a screen.  Were laser disks the same principle as compact disc ?  Just larger ?  Were compact disks alot more costly around 1984 ? How about CD players ?  I don't recall.  I didn't get into them until the 1990's. I was still ordering cassette tapes until I got a 486 DX-2 computer. Computer CD was my first exposure to compact disc..

Ollie,  It surprises me who well respected Pioneers name became. Pioneer had always been one of the cheaper names in the earlier years.  They were practically a dept store brand that didn't even compete with RCA (as I recall).  Wasn't Pioneer a front runner in the laser disk area ?

I think so....  But in  some ways Ive always been out of sync with society When people were way into home video cameras I was still learning 35mm and thinking about getting a 8mm movie camera... Now I cant leave the house without a cell and a wireless laptop....

Yeah.  I'm hearing my anscovision 8mm move projector isn't state of the art anymore.

In February of 1985 I bought (but later returned) my first CD player.  I had some extra money at the time and was in a mood to splurge.  The cheapest CD player I could find then was a Magnavox unit for $389. The thing that intrigued me at the time was the idea of practically zero hiss, no pops, skips, LP surface noise, no tapes stretching or getting mangled in your player, etc.  So I thought, what the heck I'll get this thing. Next I went over to Tower Records to look around and get my first couple of CD's.  But at that time you still had aisles of albums and cassettes but only a hundred titles or so for CD's in the store and the things cost over twice as much as an album. So it finally sunk in that it was too early to jump on to this format bandwagon. I returned the CD player.  Besides it turned out that this Magnavox CD player only had a 12bit D to A convertor.  I learned it's best to just wait and see what happens whenever there's a new format out there.

Odie what blows my mind is this The Model A could get out in the open and do 50mph.

About 15-20 mpg..  80 years later with our road systems its hard to do much above 50mph   about 20-25 mpg  If the automotive industry wsnt totally controlled by ,.... and had advanced like everything else... The average car would cost $500 and go 5000 mph...

Ollie, rocket engines only costing $500 ? Let alone the material this would have to be made of, and the features it would need ?

Or did you mean under mach 1 (500 mph) at $5000 ?

Well let me put it this way if you asked a 18 wheeler on the cb what his 20 is He would say Im in in pennsa okla zona.....

I'd be a little concerned about the bernouli effect of an 18 wheeler traveling at mach 8.. ,  yeah,  can you imagine even contacting a CB op traveling at that speed  LMAO

No Sh**  have you ever been changing a tire on the interstate and one goes by at 70mph? They would create a sonic trail 500 miles wide....

I'm scared when I'm riding a bike and one goes by at any speed.  Those things are nasty !

Ollie,  How would this work in terms of perceived sonic boom heard on the ground ?
When a small fighter plane breaks mach 1, we can hear the doppler shift, and than the explosion.   Would that same sized craft traveling at Mach 8 be much louder ?  What would be the difference in perceptable sound difference be to those on the ground hearing a craft moving at over mach 1 vs mach 8 ?   Would the fast vehicle give off a high DB explosion ? or  would the frequency of the crack be higher on the faster moving craft ?

Assume the aircraft are both the same distance overhead, about 5 miles

Aboard ship the 8 inch guns were louder than the mach2 missle leaving the fantail.  The mach 8 boom would be the same spl but higher frequency So that brings up a question when Star Trek goes into the warp mode is it audible?

That's incorrect.  However, there are some stars that have burnt out years back, and we still can see the light.  Because of the speed and distances light reaches us, when we look at the light of a star it is true, we are looking into the past. However you don't mean the Sun's light.  The light of the sun doesn't take that long to reach us.   I'm thinking the time it takes is something like 8 minutes.   Hence, when you look at sunlight, you see 8 minutes in the past.
