Well folks so far this player has been working great no complaints yet even though it is Vocopro lol . I've ordered the Cavs 203g usb player and will give you all a report on it once in use for a while. Here's the link to check it out if you wish:
http://www.acekaraoke.com/cavs-dvd-203g ... layer.html
CAVS DVD-203G USB Black DVD / Super CDG (SCDG) / CD+G / MP4 / VCD / Karaoke Player

The 1 feature the Vocopro hard drive does not have is to play disks so I'm upgrading my 2nd system to this player if it works well to please a few customers who have to sing from their own disk or they'll die  LOL

As you know RD I have one of those players. A couple of things I have noticed and have yet to define the cause...
1. it has difficulty reading some of the higher numbered tracks on the scdg disc not sure if this is the player or the disc.
2. I am storing all the jukebox music on the external usb harddrive. Using Adobe Audition I am mixing the music into blocks of 1 hour some under specific genre ie classic rock, country rock, disco, 50s & 60s etc. I was going to mix down some 4 hour blocks as well but I am going to hold off on that for a bit as yesterday while I had it all playing in one of the function rooms as a test drive, I noticed a couple of times it kinda skipped. I brought the drive home with me and loaded those 1 hour tracks back into adobe and can find no reason for this. there are no gaps or mistakes in the rip of the songs so I am at a loss as to why it has skipped while playing, unless the cavs player doesnt like files that big?

Remember I bought this as a hire unit for the hotel I work for, I need to make the operation as simple as I can, hence mixing music down to either one hour or 4 hour files, so as it doesnt need to be attended to that often.

If it cant do this sucessfully then it hasnt lived up to the manufacturers hype

will keep you posted

Dog...can you use any USB hard drive with this unit?

Are you converting your files to Super CDG to play in this unit or are you just converting to MP3 and playing them?

I have a fellow KJ locally that is not really good with computers but this player might fit his needs really well.

Any input would be appreciated.

yup, the acesonic is still performing great. The only thing is some songs that did not transfer well into it, I only find out when someone sings 1 thats bad then I gotta delete it and reinstall it into the hard drive. It's a bit of a pain but not that bad a problem. The only way to check this out is to listen to every song, who has time for that! So if a song is cut short or corrupted then I just replace it when I get home. 1 songs = about 1 minute so it's all good.

If your talking about the Cavs unit :

http://www.acekaraoke.com/cavs-dvd-203g ... layer.html
CAVS DVD-203G USB Black DVD / Super CDG (SCDG) / CD+G / MP4 / VCD / Karaoke Player

Then Yes it will use any external hard drive as as it's formatted to Fat 32.
And all my files were converted to DIVX for the vocolpro unit, But i think they will play of the hard drive for this unit also. I'll know for sure when it comes in. They sent me the one without the USB port by mistake so I sent it back and should recieve the right one within 8 days or so. Once I set it up Ill let you know what works well on it.

Hell I figure that's going to happen even with computer based systems.  Unless you confirm every song loaded correctly, it's kind of a take your chance thing.

yeah I'm still running into bad imports on occasion. Generally on obscure tunes that get no playtime.

that's why I love ripping with Audiograbber... cause then I can play them immediately with winamp, and click thru them to see the graphics and see if there's any errors!

I have the ability to do this as well but did not take the extra time on each import to check for quality. I just did random testing.

Probably should have taken the extra time but it's not a big deal to reimport selected tracks later.

I have only found 30 or so that were bad imports out of over 10,000 or more
