As brought up in the title of this thread............

I too have noticed an exodus of long-time regulars--very little seen of Lonman, Knightshow, Timberlea, Big Mike and many other "PREMIUM POSTERS". As to myself I've greatly decreased my activitiy posting. Cant speak for the others but I can explain my reasons:

1. I come here to read and participate in Karaoke-Specific topics. I come to increase my knowledge, listen to peoples karaoke DJing, singing, equipment, show, etc experiences and share mine as they apply to Karaoke-Specific threads.

2. Of late(over the last few months) there has been a measurable movement away from Karaoke-related threads to general discussion-non-karaoke related topics. These are not what I come for here. After all the name of site is Karaoke Scene Not Politics Scene, or Religion Scene or, War Scene or general events scene. Less and less of Karaoke related topics. Hence I spend less and less time here.

Perhaps its' time for WEBBY to create a GENERAL discussion forum for such topics and move non-karaoke related topics there.

But thats where I am with the present direction on KS. To my mind lets get back on topic and keep with the KARAOKE DISCUSSIONS!!

The problem is in any forum people will go off in their own direction. If you see a topic called "Movie quotes", it's a pretty good idea that there is no karaoke in it (unless it's called karaoke movie quotes). No one here is forced to look in on subjects they don't want to talk about.

When people meet and talk about karaoke, it branches into other subjects, natural as the birds and the bees!  Discussion is it's own topic and probably SHOULD branch into other subjects. There are tons of karaoke topics to look into, tons of places to go to read about equipment, techniques, etc etc. Why do some peeps worry that there is a general discussion section where peeps go into other subjects? You certainly don't have to read them.

People who meet and like to talk in a karaoke forum want to talk about more....and they do. Isn't that special?

Kurt, Kurt, Kurt..... Why are you volunteering to stir up some crap? That's MY job.  LMAO

Just kidding.... please don't blackmail me with any contraband you may have, I'll be nice.

And yes, I agree, there's WAY too much useless junk on the forums these days. I tried to get them to all stop, but it was pretty useless.  :(

Well its not "USELESS" in the correct context----just need to have the off-topic threads put into a GENERAL DISCUSSION forum.

I'm not trying to be a smart guy, but if you read the Discussion forum description, it says you can talk about anything, doesn't have to be about karaoke......there are other forums more related to karaoke and singing..........maybe there is more to life than karaoke, though I can't imagine what it might be.... :)

Be nice Kurt. And be secretive too. Once you know me in real life, you can no longer talk about me on here. Nope, not allowed, you'll blow my cover. LMAO

And yes, ALOT of the stuff here is USELESS. Most everything I type is. And others (some) will admit it too.

But, hey, we have fun laughing at each other, that's gotta count for something, right?

I agree wholeheartedly Kurt there should be another category But if you were to ask me to start a thread on karaoke that hasnt been hashed over and over and beat to death Id have to ponder awhile...I have tried but it either dies or turns into a free for all...Give us some ideas or suggestions on something that would make an interesting new karaoke topic. :)

I understand what Kurt is getting at.  We need a Karaoke Discussion Forum for strictly general karaoke related topics.  Plus an Open Topic Forum for the "What's sexy, who's sexy, is your avatar really you, what's your favortie (insert noun here) stuff".

First off,  you will never please all.  If people aren't leaving because they feel the subject matter has evolved beyond one or two generations from "Karaoke" related matter within a general discussion "all goes" forum, they might've left 8 months ago because there was nobody to chat with, it was dead in here, too few were participating and this place was boring to MANY, and the few that chatted were a "clique" according to some, that also had a way of alienating some.

Some wanted a general chat venue to be just that, "general chat" that moves at a fast clip such as this room has been for the past 8 months.  Noone can say there's a shortage of chatter and activity in here, the fact that some of the older more technical people don't like some of the banal sophomorish chatter that's taking place... Well, Either way, you will lose SOME.. Some left despite what a few of you older members deem to be recurring inanity because they felt this place was too cliquish, they felt chastised for asking certain questions (regardless of whether their questions were too repetitive or not, that's moot, There were always attitude issues. We know people don't use search functions.  We also know that for the most part people are lazy.  You expect human nature to transform in a Karaoke forum ? Seriously ! ), When this room was "quality and less quantity", some of you older members liked it more, but fewer were participating in general.  Questions such as "Where is everybody?",  "What ever happened to the good old days when people chatted and were friends" "This place is NO fun",  It's like a morgue in here were heard a year ago in here.  Look back, there was little participation,  THERE's ALOT more now..

The main reason people "leave" is somewhat obvious.   In any site that has so many joining, many are transient.  Some older members will leave as things evolve and change too. Summer ends, people go to school, Some believe it or not, even get jobs... BUT the main reason people leave is that they don't feel accepted, reasons for this are often bullying, feeling under attack for expressing something that's considered and deemed as being "Not cool" by others, NAME calling, and fighting are HUGE on the list too. People get sick of fighting.  You want fighting, you have AOL, AOL is always looking for a good heavy-weight to join. Many of us get so tired of fighting and fending attacks, we leave AOL needing a retreat like this place, A MODERATED venue, that is supposed to be more accepting of most.

The single biggest reason people leave is not inanity, and many having fun,  It's too many negative issues, and confrontation..

If a no-threadjacking policy COULD in fact work, we all could do as we wished, there'd be no reason not to. It's up to none of us to judge unless we are attacked, or something is clearly vile. VERY little falls into such areas.  I could bring up the occassional Karaoke player thread in here, while also having an "Ask me about my demented aunt" thread.  People could avoid threads they opted to ignore AS LONG AS, inanity didn't carry into their thread.

There MIGHT be another option.

Karaoke Discussion forum- keep this implicitly to 1 or 2 generations of KARAOKE.

and create another room...

Community chatter room... "The lounge".  -   Just about anything goes

Oh Kurt, I see what you mean. Guess I was thinking that Singers Showcase was the karaoke forum, but I guess it is really just for Singers Showcase. I agree. Open Forums should probably be 2 forums. One could remain open discussion - call it something like 'Happy Hour' or 'Bar and Grill' and the other could be Open discussion but exclusively for karaoke related topics.

Maybe this change would satisfy those complaining of trolls, tards, spammers, etc.

I will say however (and this is probably obvious) that currently under Open Forums we can post karaoke related topics. I think the problem is when the spammers come in and discuss other things. Maybe I am guilty of this as well. Anyway to stop this more rule adherence needs to be made. This is usually done by moderators. People can vote for some moderators to assist in policing.

Agreed, this *IS* a discussion forum to talk about almost anything !
Really the bottomline is not what older members want vs what newer members want.  It's what KARAOKE SCENE administration wishes for this place to be.  We are just visitors here of our own device (hmm...  reminds me of a song)

Am i an "older" member? (well, i am one of the YOUNGER members.. but you know what I mean. But, I have been here longer than a lot of other people, only like, three months LESS than the person who started the thread. And, I have NEVER talked about karaoke. EVER.

Seriously though, maybe you should just join Singers Showcase Kurt. Looking in their appears they have just about anything related to singing and really therefore karaoke. Only dif is there isn't a place for karaoke technical stuff, but there is a Technical forum on this board where you can talk about that stuff. So actually that may be your/the solution. What do the rest of you think? Is SS enough?

I believe people can do both.  Talk about karaoke in here, as well as discussing other content too.

It get's extremely frustrating however when people that don't like our "inane blather", start a thread about their RSQ NEO's features, and somebody steps on their post with...  "My father has three gonads".  Problem is threadjacking, as much as it bothers some, it IS VERY difficult to eliminate in a discussion room.  I can understand the frustration of both sides regarding this.  Again, it's about compromise.. If the best way some believe to reach a compromise is forming a different room that limits non-karaoke related content, this might not be difficult for administration to do.  There are more members now than the site had 3 years ago.  Membership expands,  maybe beneficial to have a general chatter forum that doesn't jump around like the "chat room" too... a stationary bboard that is designed just for blathering imbeciles such as myself.
