around $500 wouldn't be bad assuming it offers that much more than a few of the others, however simplicity is also important to me. I like the model Kelly described, but will look into the Eventide, however I won't purchase something like that on ebay. Too many potential probs.. That, I'd want new WORKING well, with warantee from a retailer who's acknowledged by the manufacturer. I'm careful when it comes to anything with intricate electronic components... ebay for the most part is NOT for me in this sense

So WHAT exactly is a vocal harmonizer? Is it something that simulates backup singers singing parts with you?

I found this interesting. Whether it's fact or not. I do not know.
From Three Dog Night. com
From 1969-1974, nobody had more Top 10 hits, moved more records, or sold more concert tickets. During this period Three Dog Night was undoubtedly the most popular band in America: twenty-one consecutive Top 40 hits and twelve straight gold LPs. By late '75, they had sold nearly 50 million records.
What did "Frampton comes Live" sell in 75 ?

Quote: Here is a little info on the other original members. Currently, Cory Wells and Danny Hutton (the other 2 dogs) along with the original keys player Jimmy Greenspoon and original lead guitar player Michael Alsip tour about 100 days annual.
Oh man ! I can't believe this. I saw that, and thought to myself that this can't be true. 2 out've the 3 singers of TDK commited suicide early on. It just ocurred to me that I'm confusing these guys with Badfinger musicians.... Unfrigginbelieveable..
I got TDN and Badfinger confused. The two albums sit next to one-another on my shelf downstairs, and about 6 months ago I was reading "Straight-up", and about the tragedy these guys went thru, and I confused them with the TDK singers.
Badfinger, and TDK were two of my most listened to groups around 71-72.. I got these guys confused LMAO How pathetic :(
I was thinking the Album "It Aint Easy', and picturing the "Straight up" artwork on the cover... Peter Ham, etc... Dang... The inside of the It aint easy album, is sort've like the cover of Straight up.. I hope this isn't the beginning of what I have to look forward to  .... forgetting EVERYTHING
(don't send Emails and PM's reminding me about the money I owe you guys.. )

Thank you for the praise, it wasnt meant to be a masterpiece just a hairy recording to show some examples warts n all. I love the song, will try and hunt out a decent backing if I recall becos of the tempo and the exposure of vocals I barked like a dog last time I tried. Again thankyou for thinking of it

Most are high end vocal effect units. The low end Eventide is around $2000 new. You can take a single voice and turn it into 8 voices. You can transpose key one each voice and add a number of effects to each voice.

Lyquidye, Would you consider those relatively easy, or somewhat more complicated to program ?

They are pretty easy, the screen reads like a flow chart. There are also many presets like a standard effects unit. Eventides were some of the easist to use processors in the studios I have worked.

thanks, I'll read up on the models. I have heard of Eventide, however I'm also reticent about making a purchase of this nature from ebay. Any electronic device where small things might be defective (things that are more difficult to discern) worries me regarding purchasing used on such a venue.

Just a question on the vocal harmonizer. Do you have to preset the key in order to have a on-key harmony? Say the song you want to sing is in Eb, how does the harmonizer recognize it? Does it always just add 3 semi-tones for a 3rd harmony or 5 semi-tones for a 5th? What about if the song is in a minor key? Major harmonies and minor harmonies are not the same.

Listening now Robdog, it sounds excellent. The balance seems very good. I'm on my laptop now, and I need more volume, (too much background noise in here) and I want to hear this on my desktop system. The separation (recording) sounds fabulous, parts are noticeably separated really nicely on the speakers, I noticed this in a few other songs too, your recording really is excellent. Sounds professional. I just need some volume, I'm on this laptop, with an air filter, vaporizor, TV in background, fan blowing... ..Congested head..
I need to crank this louder on better speakers so I can hear it.. From what I heard it really is excellent. These speakers don't get too loud though. I'll be out there in about two hours. This is naptime

I cant speak for anything other than what I have Allstar, but the presets in my mixer just rely on the singer singing in whatever key they see fit, which of course leaves a huge margin for error. I did try a song or two with a friends unit (unsure of the brand) but it gave a far more realistic sound than mine. But with the more realistic sound came an even greater need to be on the note

Morgan, Michael (Mr October) just forwarded me the link to SS and I listened to the harmonizer. It's pretty random as you mentioned, but it's fun. So you can set it for a male harmony ? Female harmony ? but how many harmonies ? What if you want to to something like Carly Simon's "It seems like you've never been gone" ?

Maybe I'm a giblet brain after all but the question just flashed before me: Kappy, if you don't sing, why would you want one of these? Or was this a "slip" and we should read into this "Kappy has a masterstroke coming our way?" Is the world braced for "The Kaptones" or maybe "The 5 Kaps 5" or something in that fashion? Am I on to something here or am I using too much "Fragrant Breeze" air freshener down here in the basement?
