WHen Justin was younger, he earned all of his money, during the summer months, growing and selling organic garlic (and parsley), made thousands each summer, which is a lot for a 12 year old:). We are BIiiiig garlic people:) I try to fit it into MOST foods... Lol, my daughter will eat raw cloves:)

This guy says lets go across the border and get some Mexican food Ok....

I ordered pollo y tallerines fritos and ensalada verde.....

My buddy says I thought you were going to get Mexican?

My reply was they eat chicken down here..

People get so tied up with the tourist crap they dont really sample a countrys meat and potatoes cooking. To my dying day I wont know if I like egg foo yung or a spanish omelette better.

Has anybody here eaten at Senor frogs in Mazatlan?

here's one for y'all.  it's got tequila so i KNOW you'll like it!  and to all the healthy folks, this is VERY low carb and low fat.

1 cup decent (not expensive, but not rot-gut) silver tequila
1/2 cup fresh lime juice (real lime brand will do)
3 oz honey
fresh chopped cilantro (this is tricky since everyone's tast is different, but i use about a cup)
2 chicken breasts pounded slightly flat but not mashed


marinate the chicken in the tequila, honey, lime and cilantro overnight, then toss it on the grill for about 4 minutes on each side twice....i mean grill 4 minutes, turn grill 4 minutes, turn grill 4 minutes, turn grill 4 minutes.  you can use the marinade to baste if you desire.

while you're grilling measure 2 cups water and two LIQUID cups minute rice.  i mean measure the rice in a liquid measuring device.  put the rice and water along with 1 chicken boullion cube and 1 TBSP butter in a pot to boil covered.  as SOON as it starts to boil, uncover and stir, then  replace the lid and take it off the heat.  the rice will soak up the water in about 5 minutes and you'll have perfect rice.

if you'd like a green side dish to go with, sautee some frozen sugar snap peas over low heat in a pan with butter and garlic seasoning.

a good wine for this meal is chardonnay.  chef's choice is O'Brien Chardonnay from the O'brien family vineyard in Napa valley.  you should be able to pick up a bottle for around $17

if you prefer a red wine, which is perfectly acceptable, try a pinot noir.  i like 9th island pinot noir.  you should be able to get a bottle of this for about $15

How about cheese whiz? It never molds or breaks down. I can't bring myself to eat anything that takes longer to biodegrate than plastic. Maybe it is plastic.

Karyoker,

I've been round the world 2.3 times and I learned a few survival skills along the way.

Number one is the local BEER!...First consume lots of the local beer and then when the munchies strike, go seek whatever the locals seem to eat the most of.....and eat too much of it......Nuthin pukes up easier than local food when mixed with local beer...It's a Sailor Rule I learned the hard way....I got a book full of them lessons. LMAO

Artichokes?....The last time I saw an Artichoke was in a Three Stooges movie....They looked like fun!

What makes ME laugh, is when the grocery store here DOES have them, and you bring them up to some ditzy cashier... and they have NO idea what the heck they are.

A couple months ago, the chick REALLY picked one up, and spiked her finger and drew blood. LOL, i laughed.

This is true ....Also try to find a waiter that speaks english I tried to order in italian one time This guy came out of the kitchen with a bucket of water full of shiner minnows. Esta es  bueno? Actually in spain they deep fry minnows whole and they are delicious..

since it's in the marinade, there's really not that much honey in or on the chicken but it does give just a hint of sweet with the lime and tequila flavor.  most of the carbs come from the rice, but if you do it in moderation you should be fine.....as for artichikes it just erminds me of that joke...
and the headline read "local grocer, Arty, chokes three for a 5 dollars"

Food??? Did someone say food?  My favorite 4 letter word...make mine dark chocolate.. and wine serves as one of my fruit servings a day...I like steak cut fries, dipped in dijon mustard...old fashioned tuna salad sandwiches that have crinkle cut potato chips tucked inside ( for added crunch)... grilled tofu steaks, salmon, oatmeal raisin cookies, seedless sweet watermelon...oh the list goes on....

And, yuppers, I eat 'em:) I either steam them, and dip the leaves in my special garlic lemon mayo, or mayeb just plain butter and lemon juice... or, I stuff them, which a WHOLE bunch of stuff, and bake them... I also do marinaded hearts, etc etc.

Anyone who would go to all that trouble and bloodletting to get to a savory heart would like a taste of me......It sounds like I'm an Artichoke.....I always considered myself more a lean cut of steak.

There is a restaurant about 20 minutes from me that specializes in seafood and rare Latin food. They may have it. I will go ask if they do. As for Haggis, I will try it next time I am in Scotland. Last time I was there, didn't have time to get one.

Ok Gilly. I found the information on Artichoke Festival. It's in May in Castroville, not too far from where I live, about an hour at most with traffic. You can find the information at http://www.artichoke-festival.org/. You should come on out next May.
