I just finishing clean up from my annual BBQ yesterday. Of course Karaoke followed and we sang for hours.
However, I am talking about food here. I am about obsessed with food, specially the good kind. I mean not like bulimic way but I just can't resist food when it's presented to me. Same kind of issue when cooking. Yesterday I made two large steaks, huge package of chicken legs, Costco portion Salmo, two packages of ribs, several large portobello mushroom packed with seasoned grounded pork, package of hotdogs and large bunch of asparagus for veggie lovers. That was just for grilling.
I made Jicama slaw and other sides, not to mention packaged snacks, like nuts, cookies, brownies, etc.
Anyone else sob obsessed with food? If your favorite channel food channel, like myself? What is your favorite kind of food?

Anything with with slow cooked meat and home made pasta .. Real milk with cream rising. If you have never had home made butter made with real cream on home baked bread or biscuits then I feel for you. Not to even mention the ice cream.....
Dream meal: slowly cooked elk roast. Creamy mashed potatoes with thick rich brown gravy. Fresh picked sweet corn. Steamed fresh cut asparagus.
Home made rolls and real butter. And more creamy mashed potatoes and thick rich brown gravy. God I'm so hungry now I cant think of the rest of it
Edit: And the only choices I got right now is a shriveled up hot dog or a bolonga sandwich...

I love food.....WAY too much.
I love home cooked stuff. (just...if I don't have to do all the cooking) :D
Yesterday, I went to a barbecue as well. Church summer picnic, my daughter was babtized... in the river:)
They had barbecue chicken, and all the trimmings. They had a yummy brocoli salad. (I'm a huge veggie fanatic... and I LOVE brocoli) But it was steamed brocoli, raisins, & sunflower seeds.... covered in some kind of cream sauce, which I *think* was some kind of raspberry vinaigrette & cream.... that stuff was to die for. It made even my BBQ chicken get pushed to the side.
And don't even get me going on breakfast foods... I love eggs, ham, bacon, and my fav of all...... biscuits and sausage gravy. And ANYthing barbecued... except steak, I'm one of those people who HATE steak. Of any kind. Barbecued.. it's "okay", but gimme a hot dog over steak any day. Or BBQ'd Polska Kielbasa.... with sauerkraut on the side.
Thanks Eben, now I'm starving. LMAO

Eben,
Since I've been a certified chef for about 20 years, the topic of food always gets me salivating! Now mind you, I'm not the typical "Hell's Kitchen" type chef where EVERYTHING has to be perfect. (that may be why it's not my profession) Plus I like the "different" things in food. I LOVE crawfish boils, my best sandwich is a PBJ, and little fru-fru dishes with peanut butter sacue and watercress? well, you can have 'em! I want big ol' full plates where everything on the plate is edible! no garnishes here! I'm knownw for tossing things together that really probably shouldn't be tossed together. things like crab, cream cheese and rotel chile and tomatoes! things like green beans, beef and chipolte. we'll have to get together and trade recipes sometime!

Artichokes. arrrrtttiiichoookess....
I LOOooove artichokes. I think THOSE are my obsession.... and, NO stores here carry them. EVER.
I also love broccoli, and asparagus.. Mmmm.......
I was a vegetarian for 18 years, but now love meat as well:) (don't take that the wrong way...)
And, i have an addiction to sunflower seeds. The hand to mouth motion, i crave.
My daughter has some VERY weird food obsessions. Pickled herring, sushi, beef jerky, expensive salami's, and she LOVES avacados... she eats them like CRAZY... i have to hide them from her.
I LOVE watching the food network.. actually, that is the ONLY television i watch:) (I also have a terrible crush on Jamie oliver, and gordon Ramsey.. it is pretty pathetic, really. And, i have NEVER missed an episode of Iron chef... but i don't like the american ones.
Good eats is a great show too:) Love that alton character:)
kay, bye.

I am all for trading recipes. I have one to share with everyone. Original recipe that I came up with.
Take chicken breast, butterfly it, then pound it out to about 4" squarish. Lay the chicken out and on top put a piece of prosciutto, pepper jack cheese, fresh basil leaves, one spear of asparagus and roll the chicken up like a sushi. Rub the outside with extra virgin olive oil and season with kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. Either cook in oven at about 325 for like 20 minutes or until cooked through. I often put them on my grill for extra flavor.
For the sauce, put about a cup of mango juice (usully I use food process and squeeze the juice out but can use bottled stuff), cup of pineapple juice and few strands of saffron in a pan and reduce on medium heat until thickened. Sometimes I use apple sauce to adjust sweetness. It should be tangy and a bit sweet.
On a bed of cooked couscous, put the chicken on top, drizzle the sauce over it then garnish with coarsely ground macadamia nuts and few basil leaves.
Try it out and let me know what you think. :yum:

Yep, grew up on west coast most of my life, in San Francisco bay area. Talk about spoiled with fresh seafood. Once I went to Oklahoma City on business. Someone suggested a sushi for lunch. I asked "how far is the nearest ocean? I prefer steak, thank you."

I insist my woman cook, no I insist she 'want' to cook......I don't care if she is a good cook, all that matters to me is she tries and that she doesn't subscribe to the femlib crap that tells women they shouldn't cook for their family...she's got a kid therefore she will cook...No fast food allowed inside that kid...Period.
That said....I often go 1-2 days at a time without eating a 'meal'....I just ain't into food all that much....It's kinda the last thing I do if there are other things more interesting to do....If I get the urge to snack, I'll grab an apple or a head of crisp lettuce and a salt shaker and go share it with the horse....
I hate to feel 'full', so I just eat a little of everything when I do sit down to eat.
About once a week my buddy Robbie will visit and we will go totally nuts with thick steaks or ribs and all the fixins...He is overweight and tends to watch for the leftovers on my plate, and afterwards when he leaves he takes home what's left.
I work sometimes with a guy who is 385 lbs.....he cannot walk upstairs to use the bathroom...instead, he drives next door to use one located just inside the door on the ground floor, drives 100 feet, can't walk there....I am sick of being stuck in a small room with him for 8 hours at a time....He stinks.....he sweats....he makes odd noises.....He will eat a 16 piece bucket of chicken in one sitting....his gut overhangs the front of his chair seat....Those days we work together I avoid lunch and find something to fix out in the plant or simply take the day off.
The wife took the kid to play bingo with her mother tonight, so I boiled about a lb of shrimp and ate it like popcorn as I caught up on my email...That's all I ate, just boiled shrimp, no sides, no butter or sauce....I'm good to go till maybe tomorrow night.
Needless to say, I ain't got the first inch of fat on me, yet I ain't skinny either....I still wear 30X34 Wranglers like I did in high school decades ago.

Woo Hoo on the wranglers Keith!!!
I love to cook. Don't eat much cause I am a nibbler...I nibble on the raw veggies as I cook...I have ussually had enought to eat by the time it is set on the table...I nibble on this and that throughout the day...I love to can jam and jellies..Or anything else I can grow....
Don't take me to a buffet becuz you won't get your monies worth. The best I can do there is to get one item per plate so they have to do a bunch of dishes...Seriously, I do this...
I do love good food though..I'll try anything at least once..When I travel I always like to try the local food....And I love it when I run accross that ever elusive culinary orgasm.....

Hey Sharon, I'll get a recipe to you soon for that potato salad soon. The last batch wasn't quite as good as the batch I made on the 4th of July. I let myself down when I made it this time.

It was good...I thought that maybe it was because it didn't sit overnight and give the flavors time to come together...I actually thought about coming over on Saturday to get some leftovers......

When I started to date my girlfriend... she was sick an awful lot. She would eat all the Mexican and Chinese stuff. She kept getting food poisoning from them. I can't get her to stop eating it.
I don't eat anything foreign. No Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Indian.. nothing French fries is even pushing it. LMAO
I'm a meat and potatos guy, with lots of chicken.
My most favorite meal is a good ham sandwich loaded and smothered with Miracle Whip and baked beans and potato salad.

Alot of veggie talk here ! I like veggies too but my passion as most anyone looking at me can tell is fried foods ! Especially french fries ! ( veggies , right ? ) Im an expert in two things in my life and thats french fries and sweet tea ! Gotta have Mc'D's fries even with a whopper ! And the best sweet tea around here is at Sonny's BBQ . Most other places I have to get half sweet & half unsweet for it to taste " almost " right.
I also won't eat anyones gravy but my moms I have been trying for almost 20 yrs to get that right with no luck. No one cooks boiled dinner like her around here either she's from Connecticut puts all the veggies & meat like here but people here don't put vinigar in theirs . It makes everything taste so much better. She swears I can smell it two days before she cooks it b/c thats when I call & invite myself for dinner LOL
