:) Thats alright Matt I started this thread for sevral reasons First I felt some questions in this area and in regard to bar operation or should I say sucessful bar methods...My first mistake was calling it handling drunks I should hav called it public relations or something.  But anybody that works in bar or depends on the totals on the z tape for a livlihood or for whatever reason needs to understand bar operations.  There are 2 things I wouldnt a bar or a dairy herd. Managing or tending a bar or lounge now with the laws we have is not easy. Here in co any disturbance requires calling the cops right now I dont know if its a state law but in lar county if somebody gets hurt or requires first aid emt's have to be notified in 3 minutes. If anybody gets a dui out of that bar then it is watched more and more busts means trouble. Anything to with hustling rolling or drug dealing is a major shutdown.

What does this have to do with us? All the above can cause a temporary shutdown and even a few days is over the weekend.  No gig no money... Also when a bar is at this point customers are in an exodus to a more stable bar. It takes a team effort...

Just as it takes special people to do certain jobs it takes special people to make a bar tick. It is an atmoshere that requires special public relations knowing when to be stern knowing when to go with the flow.  Everybody there has to be aware of whats going on with the other employees and knowing if they are having problems. This is in addition to being aware whats going on with the crowd. Sometimes hosting karaoke can be funnest night ever but there are times when the sound or rotation and all others things are immaterial. There are other things more pressing that have more of an effect on your success. And it usually involves a problem thats requires quick wits and knowing how to deal with everybody from cops to inebriated assholes..

These thoughts are borne out not an abundance of knowledge but many years of experience.  Also yesterday Ihad the need to tell a couple of sea stories and they wernt exaterated one bit.  But if anybody gleaned at least one idea out of this thread then it was worth it
:)

your post about TYPES of alcohol and how the various types affect people was WELL founded.
Thanks Matt, it seemed to support the topic.

I still like your post about the handles and am studying it.

Few years back I was in this bar, when the owner(a big dude) threw this little drunk out the door saying "if you come back in here again, I'll beat your little a$$"....about 5 minutes later, here comes this drunk through the back door, owner throws him out the back door, warning him, that if he comes back again tonight, he is really gonna beat the heck out of him, and he's not kidding........10 minutes later, here comes this little sum bi$&ch back through the front door again.....he freezes in horror as the owner stands in his way and starts rolling up his sleaves stating " I warned you, now I'm gonna beat the living crap out of your drunken a$$"....the little drunk stammers to the owner.." now wait just a minute buddy................... how many bars do you own on this block?".......... :dancin:

Very troublesome, but most are drunk and drugged.   Even worse.

Yes, and being just a Little Dog, I always party at a place called "The Big Rock Candy Mountain"........us little dogs always seem to have such a good time there, but for some reason, unbeknownst to me, big dogs don't seem to enjoy the place...........could be the buzzing of the bees, or maybe the blueberry trees.... :drunk:

The worst drunk to deal with at karaoke is the in between drunk. Not
bad enough to kick out, but annoying enough to make your night miserable.

The night the AC went out in the bar I had a bad woman drunk. It was rotten
hot to begin with, then I had to deal with her. She stands in front of the stage heckling every singer. She throws her purse on the slip and pencil table knocking
things over, puts her drink on othe books, and yells at the top of her lungs at the singers. At one point she yells "you can't sing that song" and comes on stage pulling the mic out of the singers hand. I went and got some help because I was ready to come unglued at this gal. I already forcably escorted her off stage twice. Her response " what did I do?"

I told the bouncer she was not aloud to sing and I would not respond to her if she spoke to me. She is now your problem not mine until you kick her out. She never did get kicked out. The bouncer basically babysat until she left.

Stupid on the part of the owner and the bouncer.   She could have chased out many good paying customers.  Why did they feel the need to let her stay?    Makes absoultely no sense to me.        Lose good money for bad.        :O

Good point, because of the Nordic influence on the British Isles, he's still a cousin.
