I came in here this morning to say Hi to everyone and couldn’t find a topic that I wanted to put my hello in…

I don’t pay much attention to people’s avatars and I don’t have one myself, simply because I get too many guys in real life trying to talk to me just because of how I look.  I don’t need or want anymore of that in here.

I joined this website so I could talk about singers and music.  It’s missing on this board this morning, so I’ll try to start a musical discussion by sharing my side of a conversation that Kappy and I had in PMs about Pop vocalist SEAL.

I like SEAL.  There is a quality in his voice that seems to speak directly to my heart.  He also has a quality that James (maninblack) reminded me of yesterday.  Seal has a quiet confidence about himself that doesn’t need to be pushed in your face.  His lyrics speak to me about his own life, near-death, his pain and his addictions as well as all the strength it took to overcome it all.

One of the most interesting things I’ve found about trying to share Seal’s music with my friends is that most men don’t like his stuff and yet most women really do.

So that’s one voice that touches MY heart.  I’d love to hear about the one’s that touch yours.

Good morning All :wave:

Tink

Hi Tink  LMAO

It is hard to think of one individual - it is usually particular
songs for me. I find the music of Evanescence moves me.
Very powerful music.

If I had to pick individuals - John Mayer and Jewel come to mind

Now I know I need to get some music from him. The stations I listen too don't play anything by Seal.

You might want to join the Singers Forum Tink. Probably more discussion on music there. Open Discussion people just seem to gab about anything and everything. Doesn't seem to be a ton of interest in discussing music though. I put in a couple of requests - but no replies.

Oddly I haven't heard of Seal. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

As for avatars..no big deal.  I usually use an avatar of a lightning bolt coming out of the sky, but a friend took the shot of me on a chase in B/W that I thought was interesting. I don't normally post pics of myself. I suppose somtimes pics are nice so that people at least kind of have a feel for who they are talking to, but it's also nice to have any identity / persona you relate to online as well. On the net you potentially can be anyone you wish with enough creativity - even a different gender. That's the scary part of it I suppose.

You've heard the easy listening song ballad "Kiss from a rose" ?  or "Newborn Friend" ?  That's Seal,  He's an excellent musician.  Conveys alot of emotion in his music.  Harry Chapin did that to me.  Janis Ian,  James Taylor, there were so many in the 70's and 60's that did this.  Music was all about that for awhile !

Right,  back in those days ballads were meant to have meaning and emotion.  They might still, but if this is the case, I've been missing something lately LOL

Time to crash Nytol,  I mean Night all :shock:

Still doesn't ring a bell, although obviously I've heard before. Probably have to find a short example link.....

Ok, I have heard Kiss From A Rose.  Pretty nice. I don't think I've heard this artist a lot though. Thanks for the examples.

I sing some Jim Croce. I like 'Photographs and Memories'. I like the way the acoustic guitar tune goes. I also sing 'Time In A Bottle'.

You don't tug on supermans cape
you don't spit into the wind
you don't pull the mask off an old lone ranger
and you don't mess around with (now was it Jim or Slim) ?

I forgot that, seriously  LOL  I believe "Slim" was Jim or Otto,  but I forgot the lyrics, or did they alternate Slim and Jim ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taken from Keiths thread, since I can't figure out which thread to post what in now :no:

Part 2;   Croce

Don't mean to hijack Keiths thread.  But this is what I found.  No signs of "Shemp" that I see.  Or am I missing an innuendo of sorts which is VERY likely around now. hehehe.... Dunno...

ARTIST: Jim Croce
TITLE: You Don't Mess Around With Jim
Lyrics and Chords

Uptown got its hustlers
Bowery got its bums
And 42nd street got big Jim Walker
He's a pool shootin' son of a gun
Ya, he's big and dumb as a man can come
But stronger than a country hoss
And when the bad folks all get together at night
You know they all call big Jim boss, just because, and they say

/ G7 - / / / / C7 - / / D7 C7 / D7 C7 GC G /

{Refrain}
You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Jim, da do da do...

/ C7 G / C7 G7 / C7 - / D7 GC G7C D7 - /

Well out of south Alabama come a country boy
He said, "I'm looking for a man named Jim
I am a pool shootin' boy, my name is Willie McCoy
But down home they call me Slim
And I'm looking for the king of 42nd street
He's driving a drop top Cadillac
Last week he took all my money, and it may sound funny
But I've come to get my money back," and everybody said, Jack, don't you know

{Refrain}

Well a hush fell over the pool room
When Jim he come boppin' off the street
And when the cuttin' was done
The only part that wasn't bloody was the soles of the big man's feet
And he was cut in 'bout a hundred places
And he was shot in a couple more
And you better believe they sung a different kind of story
When big Jim hit the floor

{As refrain}
You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Slim, da, do, da, do...
{Repeat}

{Spoken}
Yeah, big Jim got his hat
Find out where it's at
And not hustling people strange to you
Even if you do got a two piece custom made pool cue

Another singer that touches my heart is Jessica Simpson.  Believe me, when I hear that child sing I can feel my heart not only being touched, but gripped, in a vise-like clench that produces beads of perspiration above my upper lip and makes my hair hurt....

Now you're tempting me to sub in SS.   Just when you thought your hair couldn't experience anymore sharp pain than you currently are experiencing,  I've been known to cause the fingernails of even the most hard of hearing critters to experience acute itching sensations, as well as experience swollen folicles.  I even caused a rock to get chicken pox twice !  But since I'm not willing to walk the walk, enough of my boasting !

Steven, in the interest of scientific advancement and musical experimentation, always feel welcome to send your vocal offering to me first--I can try it out on Farina,  my rat terrier, and see what kind of side effects he develops...
