( You can replace the term God with whatever state we were in prior to our existence, and likely will be in after our existence as we know it ends )
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may just never be enough;
Give the world the best you have anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it's all between you and god;
It was never between you and them anyway.
*I think this is Mother Thersa* It makes alot of sense..

I was told about that when I was a kid, but I can't for the life of me remember. I know why they had to choose something but not sure why the fish.
I just did a search on it but the term I used may not have been gentile enough. "ikthuse why the fish" I didn't use the quotes.
Here is a link where I found some nifty info on this. http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_symb.htm

"the fish symbol is seen in the Greek word for fish (ichthus, spelled: Iota Chi Theta Upsilon Sigma). That is an acrostic which has many translations in English. The most popular appears to be "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior" 16 [Iesous (Jesus) CHristos (Christ) THeou (God) Uiou (Son) Soter (Savior)]. "
From the page linked to previously.
"An acrostic is an "arrangement of words in which the first letter of each line ordinarily combines with others to form a word or words or the alphabet.""

Thanks Chuck, It's evident why I don't know this. I have no biblical knowledge. Yes, there ARE things I know little about ! Don't even delve into at all. I've seen the symbol, but never questioned why it's used. Isn't the fish specifically "born again", or just a newer denomination of christianity ?

I use "piscatorial"--it just sounds better than ichthiology. You left out a passage I found in Chapter 17, "Just Before the Lights Went Out", "No good deed goes unpunished."

On a related theme, having eaten it too many times in my childhood, I know gefilte fish is cod or carp of some sort (for you gentiles, a very acquired taste is needed to enjoy this delicacy) but just what the hell do they do to that stuff to make it like it is? That weird consistency and all...I still have not found the answer on any internet searches...what's the deal with gefilte fish?
Next topic: How the hell do they make halvah bars...what's the deal on those things? What's inside of them?

Very perspicacious Steven...I myself was on the right track, believing it was a special papiermache/oatmeal mixture with a pinch of tunafish added.

It actually did sound just like something Seinfeld would think up. Which is why I didn't doubt it. LOL
