It's simple actually (the answer to the Eric Clapton question) yes he broke many... but he was also very slow at changing them too. what's funny is how many people think he got the name from his playing style.

Actually very seldom did he change his own strings in a larger band venue, guitar techs would take a guitar restring it, while he played another, or they'd stand behind him around the headstock, and replace a b or e string while he continued playing the guitar....and it was made into a stunt of sorts....especially in the 1970's...During his acoustic set's he often would restring...Guitar techs would restring his guitars most of the time, yet this was done while people "slowly were clapping" in the audience. .... Around the time he got the name he was strung out too......He'd get sick on stage, wired on smack, alcohol, and all sort's of stuff. Once or twice he fainted on stage, was revived and continued the concert... I think that happened in ENgland, as well as NY around 1972..  He has a detox center in the Caribbean now... I wanted to go....  FIgured it was my best shot at getting together with EC...


It wasn't that he was slow at changing the strings that he got the name.... It's that he changed his strings often while the audience gave him a "slow hand"...

Drummers.  Opinions on tuning your drums by ear vs using a tympanic tuner ?  I'm no drummer but I keep a set in the studio...  Sort've a midlife crises thing,  I couldn't afford the Mercede's like my ritzy brother-in-law.... Of course I don't want to costly car either...

How does tuning tension rod torque differ from tuning guitar by ear ?  It's not recommended to not use a tuner much of the time..

Well, Steven I've never seen a drummer user a tuner.  It's always been by ear.  Maybe jazz drummers tune by ear though.

I've seen both, but I suppose for home purposes the meter might be superfluous. Most just use a key... That was awhile ago however.... Not sure what todays thought's on this are... That's what I was wondering.  Perhaps in a setting with a noisy background the tuner has the advantage.

Any recommendations on decent corded headphones these days ?  Nothing extremely costly.. I had a pair of decent Koss headphones that I lent to a friend, and of course her house caught on fire  :(    Anyway, she returned the headphones finally, however....they now are damaged....  I don't want to spend a fortune but I liked these Koss headphones,  any others that offer a 3-D type full separation.... I'd like something that really breaks down the frequencies, and on a good recording gives you the quality that the low's mid's and highs are almost 3-D....

  I noticed in the recent Musicians Friend catalogue, that Epiphone has out a Gibson ES-175D copy now.. New model.. I wonder how it compares to the Ibanez, Samick, and other cheaper copy jazz boxes.... Or I wonder if it's a better design, better quality etc.. Incidently have you seen some of those Schecter C-1 Elites ?  for $699 ?  Quite ornate.... Really nice mother of toilet seat neck inlay... Pretty guitars...  I few of the Schecters use the Seymour Duncan classic 57, and JB Pickup configuration.. I wish I could hear a Schecter guitar... I loved their bodies in the 70's and 80's...  Wonder how these guitars sound ?  I'm going to read some reviews on a few of these decent appearing lower priced to moderately priced guitars.. I just want to know the difference between a $700 dollar Schecter, and a 400 dollar Samick.... etc..  This stuff always has me curious.... You practically need to understand every detail of Fender, and Gibson's as well as ESP, Hamer, Charvel/Jackson's history now... A person that wants to purchase a Fender Strat or tele now, needs to know the differences between.....Vintage, Reissue, vintage reissue, standard, American Standard, Signature USA,  Signature import, limited edition, 60th anniv American, Highway one, Deluxe powerhouse, 60th anniversary commemorative standard..... etc etc etc.....  I think I'll buy the "Hello KItty" strat.... Much easier  :(

Are Gibson and Epiphone guitars still made in the US or are they a victim of out sourcing too?

VERY few Epiphones are made in the United States at Gibson's old Kalamazoo Michigan plant. A FEW high end commemorative Epi's don't get sent over-seas however, a few are USA Guitars... Most Gibson's that are now firebrand lines, bare-bones guitars for under 700 (give or take) are manufactured abroad, as are many Hamers, ESP's, and just about all makes of guitar under 500 dollars... 90% of these guitars are made by one of three Asian plants.... Either Korea, Japan, (forgot the third)..... Most of these used to be Samick International. Gibson started making firebrand SG's  "The SG",  and firebrand Les Pauls "The Paul", around 1982 the "Sonex" over-seas.... Fender started making Japanese strats around 1976, and than quicky had Mexico, Japan, Korea, and even India for a short time do most of the assembly of guitars that weren't specific labled  "American Standard Stratocaster",or "American Standard Telecaster" etc, Their first supposed "Decent" line that was imported in the later part of the 1980's to early 1990's... was their :Heartfield: (japanese) "active" line of basses "Prophecy" bass, and a few guitars.... Squire came along,  Squire 2 (which for a time-span was better than the Standard strats  -not the American standard- there was a difference, but the Squire 11 line looking back was among the best non-america line Fender to date has ever produced) Most "standard" Fender's are out-sourced, Usually even add's will specify "Made in USA" strat or tele, these are the guitar's that now retail for $800 and more.... Additionally if it was a Fender "Vintage" copy up until mid-1990's it was replicated but manufactured in the California Fender plant only.. and was a more costly model of the 57, or 64 strat, earlier tele, etc.... however if it was a "reissue" that meant outsourced and less costly..But now Fender even muddy's that up, they started adding Vintage Reissue lines,  Custom shop Reissues (US made) etc... VERY tough to keep up with this.. Even some of the signature strats were outsourced.... Usually the models under 800 weren't made in Fender's Custon shop *which I think was in Arizona at least until quite recently*... ANyway I Need to crash, exhausted..


     VERY few companies don't make "Imported" models nowadays,  People don't all want to pay 1000+ for a guitar... so they outsource the work, and if it's under a certain sum of money, it's almost guaranteed the company had it's assembly done abroad....It get's confusing however.... Valley Art's guitars.... Al Anderson's line (from NRBQ) made in the Silicon Valley was bought by Samick years back, few knew that Valley Art's was actually just US Samick custom line of excellent guitars for a few years.......  You can still get Charvel San Dimas lines made in California for about 2-3K but most Charvels/Jacksons,  BC Rich, and ALL guitars have models elsewhere.... Godin/Seagull are Canadian made and decent guitars for a lower price... TKL cases are canadian and REALLY good cases for their prices... I try to stick to just TKL, and SKB...  Heck, even G&L started making guitars in Asia 8 years ago.. Carvin is one of the VERY few Guitar makers that manufactures USA guitars.... There are a few other.... Time to go to sleep,  I'm not coherent.... Loaded with benedryl.  Now Heritage Guitars are made in the Old GIsbon plant in Kalamazoo... Nice semi-hollow's... When Gibson left Michigan, their Norlin plant 6 year run of guitars WERE NOT very good... Ibanez "Law suit" models of the LP, Imported higher end Epiphones that were imported  were a better quality for a time...., and 50's Epiphone USA guitars were a better make,  The 5o's Casino, Reviera, and the other 335 Epiphones up until the 60's... were very good quality guitars......

Drea, The person who wrote the 4 part Hofner site online, is an editor for Vintage Guitar magazine.  You might want to Email him, maybe they will highlight your guitar in Vintage Guitar magazine. Who knows ?  If the editors are partial towards european makes, and enough love Hofner, they can do as they please  LOL   What better way in increase the value of your guitar   Than to enclose an article in VG mag that has YOUR guitar in it !

I don't doubt that at all.   I woke myself up two nights ago yelling at a fictitious person I was fighting with in my sleep.  So the little sleep I get, isn't even relaxing.

I'm looking for the Yale Alleycats arrangement of "never my love" (1976).  It was the last arrangement I heard, that ended my writing arrangements for glee clubs  LOL.   I had just written an arrangement for the glee club I directed, and after hearing their arrangement I wanted to bury my head in the sand
