I have a dups folder and move one into it Then name the song remaining like Patsy Cline - Crazy(SC).zip All know now that there are 2 or more versions.
there are certain country songs on cb that I have sang for years If I go to a place with sc it sometimes throws me off for half the song.... That's exactly my point. You get used to a certain version... so even though SOME people think SC is the best for everything, and ny just MIGHT be... doesn't mean that it's not the one that you're used to.
To go out and DELETE songs you already have to me just seems odd.
I have my files like Mr. October is talking about... when a customer requests a song with the way it's in my books ( Song Title, Disc Number), I find it by going to that exact disc, rather than renaming all my files to a generic way...
and again, not saying my way is the only way, just that I understand my own logic!

Also I was just thinking if you ever go to sell your system or business it would be nice to have all you originaly paid for to sell as a complete library. maybe Im wrong but that thought just crossed my mind.

I will be deleting the undisreable songs from the hard drive, so I don't accidentally punch them up. If someone is looking over your shoulder. Hey you told me you didn't have that song. You know the songs I don't want to ever play because of thier content. Some of the dupe versions are so bad you would never play them anyway. The customer books will always have only the one most musically correct version listed. The master book will have all versions, minus the purposely deleted ones.

I see where you are coming from, I'm just looking to clean up my show drive of a the songs I have TOO many copies of . I'll always keep my master drive at home.
And as far as those "picky" singers. As I said , If you're a regular and a loyal customer I'll get any version of any song you want..just ask. I'm just not looking to keep everybody happy. I learned a long time ago you can't please them all .
I look up songs by title and if 8 versions come up --It's just a pain in the A
I'll keep minimum 2 of any songs I have dups of. Like most things just a personal preferance not wrong or right.

I don't look at it as 'looking to keep everybody happy', but see it as karaoke always is bringing in new people. Some of those new people may want a version they are used to - just be nice to tell them, well I do have that version though it's not listed.

That's a very good point. I also delete songs that have obscene titles or lyrics. I don't want to have an embarassing moment when someone sings "dirty" songs and most of the audience don't want to hear those kinds of songs. Image hearing someone singing F this and F that, you know what I mean...

Lon,
I think its important to give singers a "choice" but not every choice. Although all the dupes are already on the drive and no real big deal. I would prefer not to have the 8 versions of "goodbye earl" pop up when I search by song title. (especially if 3 of them are the same label) See its not so much the dupes but I want to rid the drive of actual DUPLICATES same song same manu which I'm sure everyone has some of. Like most I know which songs I have and which versions are requested and which ones are actually better. As far as the "new" singer that happens upon my show, I feel even if I didn't have that 1 version of the song they wanted the rest of the show would compensate for the one song and they would have a good karaoke experience.
So lonnie, if you get a singer that prefers to sing on a Behringer Microphone
don't tell me you have one in your bag :jk:

heheheh@microphone
To me, if you don't want to search and see eight versions of goodbye earl, then move the dupes to another folder, but still keep them on the same drive. When you do your search, you're only searching in ONE folder.
As for anybody looking over your shoulder... depends on your setup. For Lonnie's show, I'd have to crawl into his booth that faces the audience... I'm PRETTY certain he only lets certain people back there.
Obviously Jam, you've made up your mind as what you're doing is right FOR YOU. Despite hearing a few different points. And your definition of customer appeasing is different than mine.
Well, to each their own.
I'll bow out of the discussion for now... nothing more to say here!

Matt
It's not about appeasing customers, and there is nothing wrong with you keeping multiple copies of any song on your harddrive. My overall thinking is the fine line between offering singers CHOICES and organizing and cutting down on hardrive space. ( forget about how cheap it is). It comes down to this on my hosting software.
I search by TITLE , and don't want to see 8 versions of a song.
I am all for differant strokes for differant folks - Nothing wrong with doing something differant than somebody else. Doesn't make you a better or worse KJ.
I started this topic and only asked if anyone knew of a program to delete duplicate mp3+g files. And ended up debating who's way of doing things were better or better served the customer. Being a veteran of KS I am use to topics going off subject and ending up in who's equipment is better or who's way of doing rotations is the best LMAO So to all who posted an opinion and suggestions and I mean ALL OF YOU ....Thanks !!!!!!

If you are looking for a quick and dirty way to do it, There is no magic way.
However, the easiest i know is......I have exported my songlist into excel deleted all the selections I want to keep and use the spreadsheet to create a batch file that will delete all the selections you don't want.
I did this the other day to remove duplicate cdg tracks off the drive, and it deleted 1500 pluss tracks in about 3 minutes. DOS is a wonderful thing to know......

, Oh so true.
Perhaps it is that we are all of the same personality, just can't give up. But there is nothing like a good debate!
