If you are running a limiter compressor in the rms mode and the threshold is set below the level needed for feedback then.......

if you suddenly get feedback do you

Adjust the eq on the stage monitor
Adjust the eq on the mains
 Turn down the fx
 Turn down the mains
Adjust the angle of the mains closest to the stage
Adjust the output on the mic compressors
Adjust the eq on the mic channel in the mixer
 Turn the mic gain down

ok lets modify the question.. is it a high frquency or low frequency feedback

Ok all you experts lets get some answers...  No guesses experience only..

My reaction to the situation is to mute the offending mic channel, then tell the (@$%&#!) to move away from the speaker. Doing those adjustment is too slow and you want to save the speakers and your ears as fast as possible.

then only will I adjust if needed.

LMAO  LMAO I think I SHOULD START A NEW THREAD and conduct a poll if I could remember all the options... LOL

All responses are welcome to the above question. Al;l engineers responses are welcome but  formulas invoving calculus are not encouraged unless defined in a dummys format And any feed back is welcome positive or negative what do you do for feedback? Is there anybody here that has actually dealt with it?

since you mention about the limiter, i found some compressor like 166XL and higher have the limiter, while the lower end one such as 266XL and Maxcom doesn't... according to the manual, same effect can be achieved if set the ratio Inf:1... but then i wondering that is really the same animal...

Yes you can set most compressors to act as a limiter, but then you don't have the compressor option anymore - it's basically do you want a compressor or a limiter.  The 166 utilizes a separate limiter on top of the compressor so you get both.

For playing back  recorded music, your system should sound great; assuming the room is acouisticly good. But if you want to do REAL singing, then you should rethink about using that speakers. You will blow it up in no time even.
Yep, I agree....I don't want the guy thinking he wasted $$ on those M-Audio studio monitors...He will discover a great use for them as soon as he gets into recording himself...I just hope he don't harm them using them live before that.

I still haven't moved the first inch toward home recording, but when I do I will want some speakers equal to his...My home system is strictly live and it is built to take it. It can be setup in the largest venue in this town and do a great job, but I have nothing yet to use for recording cept the PC I just completed building....One step at a time, I always say.

Yep, those babies are sweet for playing back recorded stuff that has been properly processed....But they will suffer a quick death if used live without lots of protection...Even then, why try?..The economics involved don't justify the cost...Better to save them and buy live speakers, then select compressor/fx/whatever to support your whole scheme.

All speakers tend to look really good in your living room when they sound really good first.....They are kinda like women....all women look pretty much alike till you have experienced many of them...Then you can recognize their best qualities by looking thru whatever they are wearing.

just heard this from somewhere while i was googling... but my interpretation could be wrong...

is it a good practise to have 2 stage of compressor in series, such as one for the mic insert and another one for the main output?

For your system, not really needed.  A compressor with a limiter is good practice for high output PA's most common in live band situations.

Sure, stomp and squeeze your output into oblivion!...nothin works better than a two steamrollers in tandem if that's yer goal.

Seriously,....Don't do that. That's a studio recording trick for guys who really know what they are doing and really have decent gear to do it with...

We ain't recording studio quality stuff. We are KJ's just wantin to sound good when we blend prerecorded with live mics. The music is already stomped...If you squeeze it again it will sound like FM radio.

The last thing audio hits in a tv studio before it is routed to the transmitter is a peak limiter.  The reason they put bed music (constant level) in commercials is to defeat the limiter that is why most commercials are louder than the movie.
