She chose to use one speaker, because she though she could get away with it. Not because it wouldn't fit. See, not becasue she cose one speaker becasue it fit the situation, she chose one speaker becasue she was/is acrappy KJ. Just don't lump all people into category. Such as there are a lot of GREAT KJ that use the built in sound card on their laptops, and some crappy ones too. But just becasue they use thier built in sound cards dose not make them a crap KJ. I personally just can't imagine using 1 speaker. If that is all I had room for though I would do the same thing. How small was that place, yikes. LMAO.
IT WAS SMALL. The "main" main area was probably a room 20'x40', and the "back" room had barely enough room for the pool table and a couple chairs. But let me tell ya, it was a hell of a fun time. NUTS to BUTS as they say.

About the reason she used one speaker, yes I was right about my assumption of her. LAZY. No other word for it.

The whole story proves what I say about protecting your reputation. First impressions are real. So do what you want. I know how everyone sees my business. That would be professional karaoke, at it's finest. It looks, sounds and is totally 100% professional all of the time. Not a good enough for karaoke wannabe. Every show is exactly the same. I don't care how big or small the bar is. Every show is consistant. No stupid surprises. No half a system. No dead air. No bad mixing. I'm the Bigdog on top of the Rock Of Gibraltar. Solidly planted on top of a solid foundation.

Yes, but using ONE speaker or 4 is professional. It all depends on wehre you are and what you are doing. You need to change, modify, and adapt to each situation, no mater how big or small the gig is. I am not going to fill up a small venue with a trailer load of equipment when it is not necessary. I probably only use all my equipment at 2-3shows a year, and they are outdoor gigs where using a full system (6 speakers, full lights, and a rack full of audio equipment, and 2 laptops). If I drug all of that stuff into every bar, the owners would get pissed casue it would take up 1/2 of the bar in some places I gig at. Perhaps in your situation it is possible to set up a fully loaded system each time. But in a lot of others situations, for me an other KJs, it is not possible. Therefore using ONE speaker, when it is necessary does not make a crap KJ. I get paid the same where I play at a venue that hold 40 people or 400.

Are you going to try to tell me and everyone on here, that your system sounds just as good with one top speaker, as it would if you used 2 subs and 2 tops? :O
Now I know I'm doing something wrong. No girl scout cookies this week. Send me your entire equipment list. I switching over.
FOR SALE by BIGDOG: One totally crap karaoke system with too many speakers. CHEAP.
Ain't no way half a system will sound as good as a whole system.
Getting paid for "good enough" karaoke must just be your style. Reputation must not mean much either.
If I can not use my entire speaker system, I won't do the job. I will not compromise my sound and reputation for money. :D

If the system is being run in mono, it wouldn't matter. In a small room one speaker on mono would be plenty. Anymore would be overkill, depending on the speakers used. Having two Mackies, Yorks, Peavys, 12" or above in a small room would definitely be overkill, just like using two of these speakers in MSG would be woefully underkill.

Don't you have volume controls. Just because you have two speakers doesn't mean you're going to blow out the windows. What about being sure that the entire room will have equally balanced sound. (MONO OR STEREO) Too loud on this side and can't hear anything on this side. Some things don't make sense to me.
OK let's put the deaf people on this side and the ones that can hear really good, put on the side with the dogs. They can hear those ultra high frequencies better, without a speaker. No logic is being implimented. Just laziness.
I don't care if your in a phone booth, one speaker looks stupid.
Transister radios, 40 years ago had one speaker. Everyone knows good sound comes from two speakers. Cut off one ear. The other one is taking up useless space.

I take that back......I would use one speaker.
In an old age home, where nobody can hear or in an under 5 years of age, day care center, where nobody can sing. LMAO

OK, I give up, i guess you can't teach a old dog new tricks. It is certainly obvious from this and other post that you really have NO CLUE about sound reinforcment.

no, it's that HE has an opinion, and YOU have an opinion. Right now, you both disagree with each other.
No ONE person knows it all about anything. We each have our strengths, and we each have our weaknesses. I know for a fact my weaknesses far outweigh my strengths... but there is still some things I know, and I don't mind spreading that knowledge whenever I can help out.
But I don't look down on other people who disagree with me.
Sheesh!

In a 10 X 20 room, where do you put one speaker, so it sounds good all around the room? So that the people up front aren't blasted out and the ones in the back don't have to get hearing aides. Or one side to the other. How is that good sound reenforcement?

Simple, in a corner. As to those being close being blasted out and the ones in the back needing hearing aids, well that goes for any room or stadium. It's just the way sound works.
