Tink, you probably don't want to hear my method as it is a bit bizarre I suppose. I start with a basic cheapo MTV karaoke machine. I connect that through my very powerful Yamaha amplifier, then through my dvd recorder and on through my plasma tv (for some reason LOL ). I record numerous tracks that way (about 25 the other day in one long session). I then finalize the Dvd-rw and take upstairs to my computer. There I use SmartRipper to extract out the Vob files, and then use Clier's AC3 tool to convert to AC3-> Wav. Next I use Audacity or Mp3 Doctor to normalize the sound (I was doing this because I was trying to raise the volume a bit including lead vocal). Finally to fit on KS in under the 3mb limit I've been using MP3 Resizer and changing bitrate from 128Kbps to 80Kbps. That's the short of it.
I'm sure there are many methods. Not sure what others are doing. I just figured this on out on my own. Reason I did it was because I prefer to sing with loud, resounding, reverberating volume at max level - similar to in a club enviroment. Of course when I do this people all the way down the street can probably hear me. I have a pretty good sound system on my computer too, but I just don't think it would be as good. I'll continue to ponder and improve if I can.
Let me know if you have a specific question or difficulty and I'll see what I can do.
Bill

Thanks for letting me know your methods
But I don't think I can quite afford that EQ list!
I'll be going a simpler route with a USB mike going directly to to PC and freeware software to do my mixing. We'll have to compare results!
Spent my first 3 days mostly talking with tech on my "budget MICs thread to even get that far. Have a lot to learn about karaoke tech..feel like I'm beginning a new adventure. Someday I might have as much invested as you, but not yet!
Thx, Tink

Well, most of that equipment is part of my home entertainment system for watching dvd movies, recording movies, and watching hi def tv in 5.1 Dolby. However I just figured out I can used the Dvd recorder to also record karaoke performances. Right now I think I have a bit too much bass in my final product and that is probably because of the huge subwoofer I have running. It's fun to sing with that thing on, but may be a bit too much while recording.
I have pretty good sound on my pc as well, and it gets fairly loud. Maybe I could sing in front of my pc without feeling odd - not sure. I prefer to really crank it up downstairs in my living room though.
At one point I had an idea to record vocals in a quite room while listening to the karaoke music through headphones. I think recording studios use a similar approach. I'd need to figure a way to have my vocal feedback come through the headphones as I sang so I could control my voice. Later I could use multitrack software to combine the pure vocal with the pure music track. The beauty of this method is it lets you individually control the sound and level of each. I may yet try that approach.
What type of mixing software are you talking about using on your pc? I suppose I should go read your thread on the subject.

Hi Bill
Sounds like a nice really nice system!
Links for freeware recomended by Jian are in my tech thread
Most promising candidate seems to be Audacity (sp?)
Although Jian also mentioned liking Kristal
I will be posting a thread in tech asking specific questions probably tomorrow so I can have info for install over the weekend
Thanks for stopping by
