OK, I'll make this fun
HINT:
EXTREMELY well known ballad
Likely older than most in this room
Easy song to guess, UNLESS I take these three lines
"All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine, oh if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind"

The catfish is a dancing man,
But he can't can-can like the Sardines can"

Since it's late at night, and things are real and deep...
This might be appropriate !
"Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love"

Ok, appears no one got mine...(or maybe even tried). No Book Of Love fans here? I always liked the somber haunting female vocals in many of their songs, along with lyrics. This one is titled Modigliani (lost in your eyes). Many of you probably remember.. 'I Touch Roses':
Darkest night
candlelight
your hands were soft
your skin too pale
white on white
I had to turn away
from your light
I could see you
laugh at me
you knew what
I was thinking inside
with one look
of your all seeing eyes
Wear the disguise
I'm lost in your eyes
Your glance felt
like a knife
so clear, so blue
I was swimming inside
I was swimming inside
You'll always be
real to me
I took one look
I could fly away
stare, stare
in your all seeing eyes
till starlight
You wear the disguise
I'm lost in your eyes
Amedio,
gli occhi tuoi
mi anno fatto innamorare

I think I read that book. (Actually I remember when they came to Austin) Some peeps I know went to that little concert at what used to be the "fast and cool club" on 6th street.

Horse with no mane. (no name, I assume you knew that)
America is correct. and the hint I gave of course was ' Since it's late at night and things are real"
and people share the gift of gab among themselves, some will tell you....etc
but oz never did give nothing to the Tinman, that he didn't. didn't already have
and cause never was the reason for....... for the tropic of sir galahad... (something non-sensical like that... what absurd lyrics)
so please. believe in me, and I'll.....(whatever they are saying )...

I actually wanted to type name, but my dyslexic two finger typing gets things screwed up. And besides mane seems funny, talking about a horse.

Was there ANY symbolism to those lyrics ? or were they not meant to mean much ?
because I've been thru the desert on a horse with no name. it's so good to be out of the rain, in the desert, you can remember your name, for there aint no one that can give you pain (something like that)
LA LA LA.... LA LA LA LA... LA LA LA.... LA..........
what (@$%!)
and "Ventura HIghway", what are :Alligator lizards in the air: ??

is the horse suppose to be heroin?
Sweats, chills, underground activity, alone within yourself, no compassion from regular people.?
Talking about that, where is the pharmacy thread?

Quote: is the horse suppose to be heroin?
That makes total sense if it is..
I've been thru the desert on a "Horse" with no name= Heroin, drying out
It's so good to be out of the rain= dry, no longer shooting "Horse"
In the desert, (is it can or can't remember your name) than he says there's nobody to give you pain= numb, anesthetized
Actually he discusses the days of the journey too... I need to go back and see what metaphors he's using. I think you nailed it Bigdog, THAT makes sense ! I never knew this particular song was about drugs, But it makes a heck of alot of sense in that context.
ADDED IN:
I just realized. "Ventura Highway" would be about Acid ! Doesn't he mention "Sunshine" early on ?
This is what's interesting. At the time, I never thought of the band "America" to be a band that used all those metaphors..

Quote: Chewin' on a piece of grass walkin' down the road Tell me, how long you gonna stay here Joe Some people say this town don't look good in snow You don't care, I know
I'm wondering how this would be representative of an acid trip though.
Chewing on a peice of grass could mean some form of blotter.. How long you gonna stay here Joe, can mean "the trip" itself once it starts... Town don't look good in snow ?? Is that a coke reference ?
