The Soundblaster Audigy 2 Notebook soundcard did the trick for me!

I had the same problems when plugging into my headphone jack, the volume was about 1/3 less than through my JVC Triple Tray Player. Once I tried the soundblaster card it brought my volume levels back to normal and dramatically improved the quality of sound.

I have a Toshiba Laptop and the internal sound card was the problem as they do not use a high quality card for just headphones. I'm not sure what MTU uses for a internal card because they do not list it in their specs.

This sound card slides in the PCMCIA Slot on your MTU unit and uses a 1/8 input that will work with your existing setup. Depending on where you buy it the cost can range from $75 to $120. I have seen them for under $75 on occasion.

You might want to give this a try as you can return the product if it does not solve your problem.

 Yup that was going to be the next step  The exact model I had experience with was the AKM-7015 and I did get enough gain for the laptop, in fact they are running it and the old cd player and switching between the two. I was hoping this one would do the same.

In a couple of cases and I use the Griffin iMic which a little less expensive and it puts out good audio but I would like to try the Audigy 2 for comparison.. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about it.. Flipper does it increase the level to or more than your cd player?

I believe it does. I have never had a volume problem since the change.

I do not carry my player anymore as there is no need to with the hosting software I use. I just import the song from my customers disc with an external plextor drive and then it dumps the file after it has played.

So it's hard to say if it is louder than the player....but there was a dramatic change in volume and quality of sound.

Next time I do a setup at home I will hook up the player and give it a test. I will repost my results.

SO FLIPPER DO YOU THINK I SHOULD TRY THIS BEFORE I GET ANOTHER MIXER/AMP OR IN YOUR OPINION SHOULD I JUST GO AHEAD AND UPGRADE TO A PRO MIXER/AMP ? SEEING THIS IS VIEWED BY MANY FOR A HOME SYSTEM. ITS ACTUALLY BEEN PRETTY KOOL FOR US B/C WE USUALLY PLAY SMALL TO MED SIZED VENUES. I'D RATHER STICK WITH THIS FOR A WHILE TIL WE BUILD THE GIG FRONT BACK UP SO I CAN AFFORD TO BUY A BETTER AMP BUT IF ITS GONNA SOUND LIKE THIS LATLEY I THINK I'LL JUST HAVE TO BITE THE BULLET UNLESS THIS SOUNDBLASTER WILL DO REAL GOOD.

My opinion is that you should give this a try first before investing $$ in a new Amp/Mixer. If it does not do the trick then return the sound card within a few days and get a refund.

My reasoning here is that you are satisfied with the sound your player was producing from your current system, then when you hooked up the laptop you where not.

You may find that the sound card solves the problem and for far less than purchasing an new setup.

If the sound card does not make the difference I would suggest going to a Pro Sound Dealer in your area like Guitar Center and take your laptop and patch cords with you and test it out on the Mixer/Amp combination you intend to buy. That way you know for sure what your sound will be. They will also assist you in matching your speakers with the Amp/Mixer setup you intend to buy.

Guitar center has a 14 day return policy as well so this should be easy for you to test at home before you do a gig.

Flipper , is this what you are referring to? The reason I ask is there are letters after the name ( ZS ) is that going to make a difference ? Is there a more advanced model of this not that I would need it just curious ?

First off, I admit I have not read all the posts in this thread, just the first, nor have I kept up with all the advice or if you have yet solved the problem.

I just want to state that it is a must that your source be properly interfaced to the rest of your system.

You cannot connect consumer grade to pro level components without suffering some level of mismatch...It's an electronic thang...There are solutions, but they vary based on exactly what gear you are attempting use together in your system...Some particular combinations are simply not fixable....Some are fixable but not worth the cost/bother....None are truely pro in sound quality and usefulness when compared to fully pro.

Most computer gaming/media soundcards and ALL onboard soundcards are not pro audio compatable, some are better than others, but none are better or even equal to pro all the way....Yeah, you can get sound from them when connected via 'adapters' but usually your sound will suffer to some degree.

Laptops are wonderful little devices and they are so very tempting to use in pro audio, but unless your laptop is properly equipped and properly interfaced it will usually offer more problems than solutions....Even if you have a laptop that seems to work well, you will eventually hit a wall with it.

Sorry if I sound negitive, but......

And...so your advise about what exactly to do about my situation is.....
