If you're AFRAID that we're going to pick on you, don't be. We already pick on you. Nobody will be giving you a hard time about your sub. The best way to loosen up and learn how to sing is to just do it.

(since I've told you I believe Singer's Showcase collectively is a hostile audience,
this is my response to such a venue)



My opinion is old school.  I was brought up believing, (and now it's ingrained), that unless you are EXTREMELY polished, that unless you can do something proficiently and your piece *IS* in fact a 9 or 10- NOTHING LESS ! Performing isn't meant to just "be fun", it's meant to be damn well as close to perfect as possible (barring the normal mistakes we make allowances for, those are unavoidable), if it's anything less, you SHOULD NOT be *PERFORMING* it, (especially for the whole world potentially to hear if they wish to online). Those who just want to have fun, and don't care if they "hack" or make fools of themselves as well as those that DO NOT care what others feel (and are saying behind their backs) naturally do have the option of doing as they please, fact is, despite your 9's in here,  some of you ARE 2's and 3's. Some of you are not good !  If this is a revelation, MY GOD... I'm so sorry, I live in a real world.. I look at this as a 'type of real' too, it exists whether you wish it to, or not.. This is real. People listen to you, say you are good, or "what an A$$".

I would never encourage many that submit the type of material they do, to do-so. On the flip-side however, some of you are just DAMN good musicians/performers. If you stopped singing for many years, and weren't currently polished, I assume many of you similarly have more dignity than to perform something you believe to be a subpar performance. I never recorded anything on my computer, while some of you love it, to me it's dry.. I want to be with other musicians in real..(Yet do to life situations, I'm just quite limited currently), but uninterested in settling for something I'm not really into, if I work again with a male of female singer as an accompanist, somebody who OK's my submitting OUR work, you will hear it once we practice up enough and both deem it feasible to "perform". Submitting to potentially hundreds of extremely judgmental strangers now though ?  Why are some of you so damn excited about it ? It's an artistic performance, do you think everybody enjoy's hearing you ?  They don't.

As to recording, I never got further than analog stuff, and even that was never "submitted". WHY ?  If I perform, I go on stage.. Not submit to an internet of strangers.. If I speak to my friends or any of you on the phone, I have a phone right in my studio, you will hear me at that point.. those I like and trust, I'll interact with only... Not harsh people I don't know, some I can't stand ! Submitting to Singer's Showcase can backfire, yet some don't see that...it's just not a huge interest I have, some are fabulous, some are total fools.. Music that I enjoy is live, and interactive, Yet still, even live, I have nothing up to par that I feel is something that should be performed. If it's not perfect, and likely many takes, recorded extremely well, I won't compromise my musicianship by allowing others (that are as harsh, and judgmental as myself to hear it). As a person who was a professional artist, somebody who I suppose (for lack of a better phrase is a somewhat proud "has been"), what ever I perform here, is what you will form your basis upon as to the musician I am, or am not, I'd rather that people believe I'm not a musician at all, than to submit a poor example of the ability I had, and still likely have when sparked under live circumstances, performing online, cam stuff, it just doesn't
float my boat", somethings I like to do in real... as I've stated, I've never even been interested enough to really even figure out how to interface an instrument to my computer... My interests in music aren't perfecting something to submit it online.. It's working in real, even assuming it's less than perfect, working with other less than perfect musicians, brushing up, and THAN performing something, but now, I'm out've shape..... ( just somebody who has slacked, I almost never practice, I'm not an actively playing, performing, polished musician anymore, in fact I've become rusty,  sloppy as all hell, and refuse to submit something I'd be ashamed of, yet don't feel ambitious enough to go thru the rigors of putting together something I'd be proud of either, it takes ALOT of work.. LOADS of it !) I don't wish to submit what I feel would be a lousy vehicle of who I was, or even currently am.

The fact is, I'm not a singer, I'm not a soloist anymore, I haven't done lounge piano work since the 1980's..I'm an accompanist who isn't currently active. While I appreciate your interest in hearing me, unless we happen to get together, or I play for one of you while we were on the telephone, I am judgemental as a musician, I listen critically and formulate opinions of all of you, and would expect you (that are musicians) to do the same of me. Let's not deceive ourselves, people formulate opinions !  People talk !..Despite the "fluff" this happens in the singer's showcase, PM's etc..  I have nothing to submit that I wouldn't feel ashamed of at present.

I prefer to relax in here, not spend many hours (perhaps weeks), trying to become the dexterous performer I once was. I won't make an a$$ out've myself. I don't have that time, nor do I have that interest.. When not here, even WHEN here, I'm usually multitasking. This takes ALOT of time !   

Some of you are practiced, currently recording, and actively singers, some of you are excellent... Some however, are total fools for submitting IMHO.. I will NOT be one of them.. I'm sorry, throw eggs if you wish, this is exactly how I feel about performing.. Some of you are in your prime, some of you are rusty, some of you can't sing, but think it's fun to submit in Singer's Showcase inspite/despite this fact.  I've discussed the undercurrent of Singer's Showcase, and despite the Kudo's,  I think many of you in real are as judgemental, and critical as I am. To deny this, doesn't change this.. 

I have nothing to "perform" for the whole internet world.  Unfortuneately my feelings are performing music is almost like entering a fight, unless you feel you can win, YOU DON'T enter the contest... I have no 9 or 10 to display to any of you..

To me,  there's only one goal when you perform for a large visible, or especially INVISIBLE potentially harsh crowd,  and that's perfection.  Some are kind, and really want to hear you... Some are laughing because some of you suck.... YES, I care what others think about my ability as an artist.. I don't take it lightly, and yes, I'm a snob !   Sue me !!!  LOL

You are excellent btw Bab's... Of course you are out there, and singing still ! Some of you basically are used to performing in front of people a few times a week. "Karaoke" has broken the ice of the older rigid stigma some of we performers had, YOU DID NOT get up in front of people and perform when I grew up unless you did something VERY well, and were VERY proud of it.. Performing was NEVER just for anybody... Even in school, you were graded, judged !!.... however as I stated to Jeff,  I don't believe a performance in this type venue is anylonger "just Karaoke",  If you perform, I judge you !   Plain and simple !   I'm as bad as Simon except I'm sweeter to your face... and I tell the truth !

Nobody cared much about whether or not you were, or weren't playing. When a person is dishonest with me, has proven I can't trust them, I doubt them..   People PM me subject matter that is requested to remain entirely confidential, they then selectively divulge bits and pieces of my response to a party they don't dare wish for me to ever repeat content to regarding THEIR PM.. and so they can keep their own nose clean, they distort the nature of THEIR own doing. This is a joke !  If a few wish to make ME out to be the bad guy to save their own face, relinquishing their own doing, sobeit, I can take it..  I've just learned who not to PM or Email with any longer, some just HAVE to spill content from private PM's into a full room and others in a circle when they get the least bit upset about something founded or unfounded.. MY GOD, how pathetic !  

I should know that just because a person PM's me, and says "Steve, this is totally confidential", doesn't mean my response to them won't get selectively "leaked" to another party they wish THEIR OWN Original post to me in no way is repeated to..  Needless to say, a few have been blocked for well over a month now on my PM's,  and this crap should stay out've the room.. the room is NO place for PM content !!!

I'm sick of this babyishness and drama that people create themselves. All is fine, but when somebody dumps "private" content into the room, and divulges content in hopes of a conspiracy, That's sick !

the accusations and I thought it was silly. You shouldn't let that stuff bug you.
I enjoyed your submissions and so did a lot of others. From what I am to understand is you submitted your guitar playing because you don't sing. If you were going to fake it I'd think you'd fake a singing. Geez it's so silly.

What the heck does this have to do with you ?  In what context did I state in this thread YOU ?  The PM innuendo regarding leaks,  yes..that involved several, I also have proof that I didn't originate even THAT, however I won't let those fly back and forth, when I heard you heard bits and pieces of something I stated, that was quite frustrating, and I put an end to ALL the BS.. I wanted no involvement.. You put pieces together missing a huge link... I won't take the fall...... What YOU heard was not accurate... When I heard you were angry about a discussion, I knew DAMN well you didn't get the truth regarding what was stated, which was WHAT I was responding to.. and THAT angered me.. So you believe as you wish..

THe fact is, unless that was to be a three-way conversation, I should not have been made to look like the heavy.
