What do you mean by longer reverb? In CEP reverb is in percentages...so do I go big or small? If I go small the volume of the singing is lower.

If you are using the multi tracks to record in cool edit and are using a seperate track for voice, dble click the track to take it to the single edit window and use the normalise function to bring up the vocals. There is a trick to setting up CEpro. Go to view/toolbars and ensure there is a tick in every option there, you will have to manually tick every item. then tick 3 row and voila you will have buttons above the edit window. this gives easy acces to most of the tricks you need to edit with. play around till you get used to it.

If the problem is with the voice mixer in the player, then a separate mixer will probably help.  A mixer will also let you control the tone of the voice separately from the music.

I started with a very similar set-up and got very similar results.  I was able to make a little improvement by connecting the player output to both the front and rear channel inputs of the receiver with a Y adapter, thus doubling my power on the sattelites.  It creates an impedance mismatch, but we're talking home equipment here, not pro, and you are unlikely to blow anything or hear any distortions.

I added a mixer (small Behringer with FX) and got some improvement, but not what I was looking for.

Ultimately, I decided I needed a better amp/speaker system.  Probably should have tried that first.

Most karaoke is mono anyway, so look for a single powered speaker to replace the receiver and speakers.  You can find some in the 200 to 300 watt range (which is PLENTY for home, even in the back yard) for around $300 online.  Watch shipping costs, though -- these guys are HEAVY.

Do make sure you put it far enough away from your TV if it's a CRT TV.  Most powered speakers are not shielded and the big magnets will cause color alignment problems.

Just wondering, what is the brand and model of the mic you are using?  Perhaps, that could be part of the problem.

Years ago, I didn't have a PC-based MP3G system and I relied on my Panasonic CDG/Laser disc player.  I still use that same old player as a "mixer" at home.  It turns out that the Panny has audio inputs and outputs, and I'm able to route the audio from my laptop to it.  I play MP3Gs using RoxBox and that's what I use to annoy everyone in the house while I sing.  I get that sweet "cheesy" effects that people still love to hear.  The Panny is hooked up to a home theater system with 5 speakers and a subwoofer, and the sound is just wonderfully cheesy.  :yum:

If you want to take the cheap route and be even "cheesier", you could buy a Magicsing microphone and simply hook it up to your system.  Yes, I happen to have one too because it is portable and it is a backup to my system.

Cheers,

JD

ACTUALLY, MOST karaoke discs are recorded in stereo.  Most clubs run mono simply because speaker placement in clubs are usually not going to benefit all sides for the audience & they actually may not hear 1/2 the music.  With a mono set-up, all the audience will hear everything the same.
For recording, I would continue to use stereo.

I've tried running my mixer though my home theater system and it sounded terrible.  Since then I've purchased a fender passport D-250 and the combinations has made for a great home karaoke system.  And it's only takes a few minutes to tear down and reset back up, so now I've been taking it to barbaques and parties.
