Yer cool. and you don't have to walk on eggshells here. That's why they pull threads when someone gets "offended".

Please refer to Mr. Kaplan's take on this scenario several messages above this.  This is a very valid point he makes here.  I encourage you to read it and maybe think about what he is saying there.  If you don't think the comment was offensive, think about this:  perhaps if you utilized a more visible minority for your sense of humor, say an African American and said "I thought I turned black!"  Would you have gone ahead and done so.  Probably not.

If you are tiring of "walking on eggshells" perhaps it's time for a little introspection to see what it is you might be doing in terms of your thinking. Also, I find it helpful to think at least a few seconds about what I'm going to say before I say it.  That might be of benefit to you as well.

As a gay person, I've stood by the water cooler listening to how crudely some straight man talk about women (and gals, you would not believe the things I've heard)...so maybe I shouldn't be so upset after all.

Personally, I'm not altogether concerned with what people think...it's their actions that disgust me at times.....

Thanks and have a great day...get to church now!

There's minimal moderating staff in here. Threads some individuals find offensive don't often get pulled for quite some time, if at all. Question is, do we want a venue that increases it's moderating staff, starts ruling with an iron fist, (because we don't take care of ourselves, and our own issues ?). Instead because they don't have the time, removes the Discussion forum because members can't handle it ? That's what happens in alot of venues when the members assume "Let the mods take care of what's offensive, the heck with it". The regular members in this venue (at least in the time I've been a member) have always resolved issues on their own, of course at times it's not always possible, yet for the most part this has been the case.

MANY of us love it here, because we HAVE been allowed ALOT of freedom, we don't have mods standing over us, and MANY of us DO NOT wish to be policed and babysat for, given room "sanctions", expelled, etc; Few of us wish this to become a heavy handed venue where we are moderated to death.  Members from the day I joined put me in my place, and this place really has been a fun venue because LUCKILY it's pretty much been the membership base SELF-moderating. If we assume the attitude of "Heck with it, let the mods worry about the content solely",  We'll lose alot. Likely even the Discussion forum. We've needed MINIMAL intervention, and I think MANY of us wish for that to remain the case.

Even the mods let their hair down in this place  LOL

I'm an Atheist, so I don't go there, and I'll quit hoping that I'm not gay......actually I'm a Lesbian, but I'm trapped in a man's body......and as far as your bringing up our Afro- American friends, as I look down at what I'm holding between my thumb and two fingers........man, I sure wish I was black...... :(

Michael, you should hear, if you haven't already, how women talk about men when they think there are none around. It hurts even more. They cut deep.

Geez Chuck, based on my experience alone, and I work with many women who confide in me, I'd really have to say the guys are worse somehow--maybe it's just the "graphic" content of their occasional outbursts...good theme for a sociologist or behavioral expert!

I've heard Men talk about women, AND I've heard women talk about men, I've heard women talk about other women, and men judge other men,  I've seen some of the ways people treat animals, and those they are supposed to "love" as well... PEOPLE male AND female can be so unbelievably cruel (myself included) that it's often best we DO NOT hear exaggerated things about our character and physical "defects", AND see alot of what happens in the world, and even in nature.

People CAN be cruel, HENCE (getting back to what I was saying before) If you really believe that EVERYBODY in Singer's Showcase listening to you REALLY thinks you are a "10", and it's "great to hear your voice", you really should rethink this. Human nature ALSO works in SS, despite how your comments read.  This is exactly my point.  Real life is also happening in singers showcase.  A few would not want to see written what some say behind their backs !   That's life  :(

Women can be EXTREMELY graphic too Michael, Watch some of the girls immitating guys behaviour on youtube... LMAO  Makes me glad I sold my little "white" thingy on Ebay.

(Did I mention that the damn seller gave me a negative feedback because THEY threw it away accidently with the styrofoam peanuts ?)

Point well taken Steven..  by the way, that thing on youtube..I don't know if someone like me would be necessarily seeking out that type of material in their search engine, lol.  Actually I like youtube...in fact, Uncle Chuck here was able to see one a clip from a "movie" I'm making...it's pretty neat.  If I ever finish this sci-fi comedy epic I'll be sure to buy some advertisement on this site.  I'm really happy today because I just finished a duet with a really top class singer on this site...and a good duet song too.  This is ANOTHER thing about this site that is positive--geez, it's amazing! I can sing a duet with someone in the Antipodes and we can exchange our media in a matter of minutes.....now that is TRULY amazing!

I did what you said, but I kinda worded it a bit different, and within minutes, three dudes dressed it white robes burst into my house, and tried to put a noose around my neck.......luckily for me, my wife came out of the bedroom wearing no make-up, and curlers in her hair, and started yelling at me for making too much noise......the dudes decided it would be much more henious, if they just let me live, so they removed the noose, took my last three beers, and left......thanks a lot Michael.. :)

Don't mention it, a mere bag of shells Echo.  Speaking of magic lamps, just what the heck are those shoes the genies wear, the ones with the curled up toes? What are those called? Does anyone know? I've always found them just cool as hell..would even go to work in a pair of those if they could be found.  In fact, with the weird fashions today, I bet I could start a whole fashion trend with those shoes with the curled up toes (after all, my last name IS "Klein" as in "Calvin")

Any pundits out there that can accurately supply me with the name of these things, I've been wondering for about maybe 21 years now....thanks!

hi guys, and ladies, and yes u to steven.

i feel everyone on this site be it the forum r ss, have there own reasons for being here and for subbing on ss....
to say that all r 10s is a joke, r that all r 8s r 9s...but i honestly have to think for the most part each person knows how good r bad they r...most not all...
steven u say ur a 2 on a good day, i have never heard u, and frankly if ur a 2 i don't want to... lol  but i think ur being a little hard on urself, not much but a little....

how does a person truly rate someone?  we all have different ways of going about it...   some compare one persons singing to someone else who sang the sang song on the net....hearing this person at first they would think it was a great job, yet when compared it wasn't so great....
if someone is a 10, then what if u hear someone that sings that same song better? is he now a 9?
i don't like to compare, i try to hear the person for what he r she is....and to me theres so much more then just being on key r getting the phrasing right,
is a 10 a perfect score? no mistakes? and who  judges the song for no mistakes?  we do....and we each hear something different, the song touches each of us differently....brings out different emotions....
i will agree that alot of 10s on singers r fluff, mostly mine...but u can't take away the great singers either,  u see 1 person giving out 10s then they come to urs which is much better an u get a 10....so u feel that persons fluffin, so u really don't no where u stand....i believe each person should be able to feel the way they want to about there singing, who does it hurt? if they want honest just ask for it. let the chips fall....
i'm not scared to be honest when asked, but only when i'm asked,  sad huh? ...most r not taking it on the road....and yes lots will believe the fluff/lies...soooo?  i have always liked the under dog. u want honest? pay ur money and u will get 1...i'll give my address later...
but no one should be put down for subbing, this site is what it is...lotta fluff...nothing has worked when trying to change it, most don't want it changed...

its funny but i find most very good singers on here r the first to put themselves down, not measureing up to the rest...scared to believe there as good as others think they r...when they really r...JMO....many reasons for that thinking i guess, scared of failing i guess.....i'm betting if asked....would the very good singers please step forward, none of the truly good ones would...
which is worst?  being great and not believing u r, rrrr not being great but thinking u r?  i found that confidence in anything goes along ways. gives the apperance of being better then u r,  how far can that take u? farther then the person not believing there any good and just gives up, never believing in themselves,
case and point....u see a very pretty lady but she thinks she has tons of flaws, going around unhappy, never smiling, yet shes beautiful,  then u have the over weight person who believes in themselves, they r who they r and there loving it, smiling all the time, just a blast to be around, no hang ups...just alotta fun....give me the latter everytime.
how can u truly sing if u don't truly believe in urself and ur talent?  u can hear it in there singing...really stands out..
have a person get  up to sing thats good but not great, but having a blast and ur loving it along with her/him. then a great singer gets up, sings, its perfect, but  she/he's not enjoying themselves up there. just singing to the bounceing ball, i'll choose the the good singer over the great singer everytime...most would i think...so who gets the 10?  the great singer r the good singer? to me the good singer, proving u don't have to be great to deserve a 10...so much more to singing then just singing....
same thing on here...a 10 to me is not a 10 to someone else...i may honestly hear a 7 where the other person honestly hears a 9 r a 10....so who's wrong? no one...different strokes....
steven? ur 2 to you may be a 7 to me....and being honest...5 to someone else....maybe even higher....yea u wish...loll...
steven i ask u to critque my songs because i know u will be honest, thats all a person can ask for...no more....no matter what u say i feel i can take it....i don't have to agree with everything,  but ur being honest...i feel u do know what ur talking about....and that goes along ways, with me anyway...

to bad we can't create a small site just for those that want honest critque, and knowing going in,  thats what they will get...i feel its really needed...
for me anyway...
people don't seem to mind asking for help r listening when it comes to mixing of there song yet when u talk about there singing they get upset...go figure...

ok thats my 3 cents worth....tc peeps
