Sorry, but it sounds like he was afraid he had caught some dreadful disease...no sense discussing it any further. No, I'm in the minority here and I've lived to accept it to some degree, so please, do not let me spoil your fun tonight.  Proceed.....

I found it absolutely astounding how you have such vocal control to sing the whole piece in perfect dissonance, a minor 2nd above the intended melody line. MY are you innovative ~

Does some of this sound cruel.. Of course it does !   BUT... People feel it, and are saying it whether others like it or not... If you are good, you are good and others know it... If you aren't good, and KNOW IT.. and care to sub anyway JUST for fun, that's great, of course you should, and do have the right if you want to... But realize that not all that listen are your friends.. also realize that ANYTHING you sub in singers showcase can be listened to by ANYBODY in the world who has a computer and speakers and cares to listen,  member or NON-member... You don't need to be a member to listen...

Steven it doesnt sound cruel because the ones concerned would not understand that you were telling them it sucked

You know, then again, there are many people that cannot articulate just what they really did find amusing about your piece...this is where the "awesomes" and "nailed its" come in, at least I think, in part.  As far as critiquing, you know, giving this some thought, yeah, maybe I would not mind an "honest" comment.  Look at it from my perspective. I love the standards and listening to Rod Stewart pretty much maul them in his smash hit CD makes me wonder sometimes..."Hey, he sold a lot of these CDs,  so who am I to talk about his abilities here."  This is getting into the commercial aspect I know but has some aesthetic merit to it as well...

Michael knows I am not afraid to give an honest appraisal but I do so in private. He was in fact way cool about it and only stuck 3 pins in his morgan doll
that was 2 weeks ago and I can now sit down for periods of 5 mins or so

Heheheheheh---sharpens the knife...well, what I made mention to Steve is that he often misuses the possessive apostrophe "S" in some of his feverish if finely wrought missives (e.g., want's, need's, et. al). As I mentioned to Steven my own mother taught English but I'm the last  one in the world to ask about the rules and forms of proper English so if someone of erudition in this field could give us both a quick run down on that subject without being too pedant it would be greatly appreciated.   As I pointed out to Steven, it only stuck out glaringly for me because he is a most articulate writer (this is no fluff) and towering individual that he is apparently knew immediately what I was referring before before even submitting my report in private.

Thank's!

Michael

Michael,  would it be Steves' VCRs   or Steves VCRs' ?  It appears that only when the item is plural does the apostrophe come after the S.

Yeah,  I need to crash to, later Michael. Catch you tomorrow !

Come to think of it.  Would it be too ?  as in also ?

I make loads of mistakes.  These really need to start to end !

your name is steve therefore it would be Steve's
If I am correct if your name was James it would be James'   without an extra s

if you wanted to put an s to the end of vcr then simply VCRs would suffice to put an apostrophe would indicate that the VCR owned something

I'm confused.  I thought in the description it mentioned for plural the apostrophe goes after the S

If it's just one VCR, or the VCR belonging to Steve the apostrophe would go before the S

btw I think any critiquing should be private as well Morgan.  But I really think as long as SS is set up to be a competitive atmosphere (meaning some get a 10++++, whole others only get a 10++), certain ego's are going to hurt.. Since everybody wants to be at least a 9 or 10, why not get rid of the dang ranking score, get rid of any source of insult such as Critique category, and let people throw flowers, and believe as they wish, without any possible negative aspect to impede the nice fantasy they want... Face it,  If you give one kiddie a cookie, you must give them ALL cookies ! otherwise tantrums are going to flare-up, and people will start posting even more than I do about this stuff over and over and over again.. Why can't people submit their work without worrying about a stupid "rank" number, or getting a Critique, when all they want is to be told how gorgeous they are, how superior their efforts were, etc.. For a Critique they can study at a local music conservatory, or request one.  Yeah.... Where else can 50 people submit a musical composition, and the lowest score on a 1-10 ranking scale is a "9", of course that's realistic    and WHY on earth do people that we know in the past have become belicose over constructive light comments, STILL post in "C" time and time again ?  Grrrrr.

I'm going to bed.

(I know many here are far more mature than some of the BS that goes on over there in SS, but some aren't, It's sort've insulting I would think to know something about music, post in the Critique category hoping for honesty, and repeatedly seeing people are just too afraid to be honest, and instead just tell you how "devine you are", and how fabulous you are.  That'd bug me to be quite honest, it's avoiding a critique, you ask for one, and you know dang well SOME are hearing things they feel can use a little adjusting but they don't have the guts to tell you about it, even though you asked).  To me that's just fairweather friendship, Offering an opinion to somebody who specifically asks for your opinion is not impinging..

We do I bother.. Why don't I just shut up, and get a blog..

.............On the next sally !

The few few songs that I can sing well are those of Rod Stewart. Thank Joyce, now I will sing and sub again. :drums:

I learned a LONG time ago, that at the other side of a computer monitor someplace, our typed content is viewed by individuals of ALL nationalities, MANY different skin colors, (MANY races, creeds, ALL sorts of religious beliefs, sexual preferences, etc.) and opposing political views especially during times like these.  We never know who is reading what we type.  Always wise to consider that certain liberties we might take regarding anything said when we know who we are talking to in real, are not the same freedoms we have when our typed message goes out to anybody, anywhere who's sitting at a computer reading an international bboard, on a forum available all over the world to subscribers.  We never know what the person reading comments we leave has been thru when we feel it's fine to crack a potentially offensive comment that might offend someone somewhere reading our dark humor thinking we are dispassionate, and bigoted. Our opinions about countries in europe, and the middle-east are read by members that are citizens of such countries and locations.  What we joke about with our neighbor across the hall, often is not safe content to joke about in these international forums.

(Now I need to translate this to spanish, french, Chinese, Italian, German, Portugese, Japanese, Latin, etc...)  and send it in all the major languages.... Not just engris.
Just a thought.  Jokes cutting down religions, nationalities, genders (especially males)HEHE, etc.. sides taken in a political debate, can be great sources of making enemies with at times over 50% of the readers of your content.  We are typing for a large, vast international group once we hit that submit button

Ah finally I get to the end of the thread. I like your style Kelly. I look at things this way...there are good and bad in every race, culture, sexual persuasion (spell check aisle 5) so I shove the colour or the stifness of wrists to the side and concentrate on the person.

a post script to this is...Anyone with talent will have to a greater or lesser degree an "artistic temperament" I know I do (or maybe I am just a (@$%&#!)) I might feel that warm flushed feeling when I read a critique in a public forum. But give me time to think on it and I will agree more than likely.
To whoever it was who had the courage to give me a 9 on my last song THANK YOU!
yes it was kinda funny seeing that but that is becos I am now conditioned to the other way.
Personal opinion of my talent differs greatly from the 10s I get. I sing well enuff to get paid for my hobby. End of story, I will never set the world on fire, but I love doing it.

Blessed be

It's only because I've made mistakes myself, and gotten castigated by moderators, administrators since the late 1970's while yacking on the Dartmouth Time-sharing system in Basic. While in school. I've played around online for a very long time. Therefore I'm just trying to help somebody else somewhere avoid getting a board sanction, suspension, nasty email, and all the lovely things I've gotten during my own experiences online.. LOL..   I've learned alot about yacking on the internet by making ALOT of mistakes..

There are some folks in here, that are quite new to the internet. All ages, all experience levels regarding alot of different things.  Which is why I realize many just haven't learned :internet-speak: yet. It takes YEARS

btw,  this is also the reason I spoke very little in here while it was over 100 degree's out. I'd get in trouble. I'm not very "PC" when I'm uncomfortable.  I'm no angel.  But I try

Hey, I resemble that remark. :dancin:

My opinion is that I doubt that I will ever submit a song that deserves better than an 8, and it's with a great amount of optimism that I wrote this. The Mack the Knife I subbed probably didn't deserve better than a 7. I only once sang that song with the amount of respect it deserves. I actually had a whole bar including pool players stop what they were doing to listen and watch. That was a happy time.

I am glad to know that offering an honest review of someone's sub should be done in a PM. I will keep that in mind.

in an ideal world Chuck one wouldnt need to. But since the world went politically correct it seems honesty, sincerity and even Christmas has gone by the wayside.
I am all for losing political correctness. I am a (as this stupidly politically correct forum edited my post) "female dog" and proud of it. But those that know me value my opinion as one who would rather say nothing at all than tell them a lie or feed them a platitude.

I would love to lose the PC as well but we also must lose the hightened tension of today that makes it necessary.

I have a theory on that but it is long, boring and possibly wrong.

I noticed a rapid improvement when I quit eating processed foods on a regular basis. I also dropped 25 pounds. My hypertension went away and I even had low blood pressure for a few weeks.

MSG, it isn't just for chinese food anymore. They can call almost anything they want these days such as natural flavors and a few hundred other things.
