Why do some poeple need the thud-thud-thud that they pay big bucks for? Are they that selfish that they don't care how it hurts people's heads? Do they even care that it makes their trunks rattle? The only relief I get from the throbbing headache it causes is the sound of the mirrors and trunks of that car rattling o I can laugh at them as they go by.
I have some neighbors that insist on playing that music pretty loud. I know if I start playing bagpipes they WILL call the police on me. It's worth a try though. I just won't do it as late at night as they do. Maybe at 6:30 in the morning when it's legal and they've been out all night.
EDIT: comments on the content of this thread are also welcome, I promise.

I know this will make some people mad. Tell me specifically why if you don't mind.

I used to have a neighbor who while mowing the grass
would turn up his stereo full blast, so he could hear it.
My children were small at that time and still took naps and
I would sleep when they slept.
It would drive me crazy! who wants to get up from a nap to go ask their neighbor to turn down their music?
I don't like loud music in general. It hurts my head. I don't care what kind of music it is. Thumping bass beat music in a car going by doesn't bother me because it is temporary. If it was a neighbor I'd probably ignore it too, unless I couldn't sleep.
It is actually pretty rude if you think about it. I would ask them first to turn it down before calling the cops. If it was me in the wrong I'd want someone to come to me first. The problem being if they are real jerks and continue the behavior and you do have to call the cops they'll know it was you.

I were my phone when doing outdoor tasks. It holds about 300 songs and it sounds pretty good too.

You know Chuck, we use to have a neighbor ACROSS THE STREET who would play his freakin' "music" so loud we could barely hear the sound coming from the 6 speakers in our home theater, in the winter, with both sets of windows shut, with the house newly insulted...etc. Had I bazooka handy it would have been aimed right at their window....
The deals with the cars is another pain in the butt. What is doubly confounding, as you allude to, is apparently these people pay mega-bucks for these powerful car stereos and speakers and they listen (if at that sound level "listening" can actually occur) to garbage on them. Just once I'd like to hear some a-hoe with the speakers full blast riding by playing Mozart....never has happened to me and I'm on the streets a lot...you?

On the 8th floor I can hear an occasional thumping. It's a matter of physics. Bass frequenies can go around corners. They are vibrations that can be felt and with a hard floor they are transmitted to the bones. A heavy carpet or bass traps etc will reduce these vibes like crazy. The energy comes from the vibes more than the auditory sensations.
So you got some dude sitting in a soft seat in a car and doesnt feel the vibes so he needs bass boost. End result is all the neighbors hear is thump thump. But its cool!!!!!

*Gotcha* Chuck.....
TOTALLY just kidding.
So, I'll get back on topic. :D
You know, I've never minded neighbors playing music. If it ever does bother me, I can always turn mine louder.
But I have hardly EVER lived in a place where I have neighbors close enough to where we can hear each others music loud enough for it to be a bother.
That's what houses out in the country are all about. I play my music too loud, I play my karaoke WAY too loud, I play my guitar too loud, I play my fiddle too loud, my truck is too loud....... heck, I'M just too loud.
I like to live in a place where I can be myself, and I don't have to worry about nosy neighbors complaining. (though, where we live now, we had a nosy old lady down the street already complain- about my sons truck- cause he cut his mufflers off and had straight pipe welded on) I hate people like that. (btw... his truck sounds dayum good now)
I have lived in a place in town- once, for about 3 months, where I had neighbors within spitting distance. I had to cut karaoke and music off at around 10 to stick with the dang "noise ordinance" thingee. Needless to say, I moved and found a place a bit more out of town.
I have decent sounding stereo in my Bronco, but I would never dish out bucks to turn it into a rolling boombox. I don't care for that. I've had cars pull up beside me at stoplights, and I literally get a back massage from the bass line in the song, hahaha. I don't care for it that loud in vehicles. And.... I don't think it's a safe way to drive either. Too distracting.
"Blah~Blah~Blah~.....Blah~Blah~Blah~Blah~"
I'm kinda swiped out and in a babbly kinda mood.... Sorry.

Sometimes bagpie music very loud too. I et a lot of looks though. I think they think I'm crazy, and I am but not in the way that worries them. Go down to Auto Zone You can get a pair of 300 watts speakers for about 20-$30. I can go into into a pawn shop and put 1000 watts in your trunk cheap cheap.. It is not mega bucks......

Please do babble, a lot of us enjoy it.
My immediate neighbors play a Mexican style Polka. That is a long story but if you hear it you know what I mean. I actually like it. It sounds like Octoberfest every afternmoon. I suppose you gott take the good with the bad, although the "bad" is hard to take.
I'm just doing a little whine about the bass not completely condeming it. The problem is, as was touched on earlier, because the sound waves from a subwoffer and so long it travels for a long distance. There is one guy I can hear coming up the street from about one eighth of a mile away.
I wish I lived in the country too. That music isn't as popular out there.

Maybe I'll upgrade. Love to hear some highland music first thing in the morning.
Now I want some haggis.

We have a band that practices one house down. They practice at least 3 days a week. It sounds like a heavy metal band. The sound level isn't to bad, but I'm glad I don't live directly next to them. We joke about setting up the karaoke system and blasting it their way. Maybe some Elvis. LMAO
Aaaah, the suburbs. These people are one house down and I have never met them.
