thanks echo. it was fun changing the key and using the vocal reducer, helps quite a bit. I was surprised those came for free! :O I had never used them before. I also figured out how to change the background, very cool. what about a sound card? maybe I don't need one yet....I'll go play around wif it a little and come back to ask Q later. thanks a million, I've got enough karaoke power to be dangerous! :reddevil: jim [schild=9 fontcolor=FF7F50 shadowcolor=DC143C shieldshadow=1]Let's kick it![/schild]

I'm going to try Karafun later. It sounds like the way to do everything I want. I'm gonna compare it to the Demo of the CAVS software and see how it goes.

For home use, pretty much any sound card is OK. But for high quality sound, as a minimum, I would go with a SB Live. I'm just using the built in card at the moment and it seems fine. It is the same card on my lap top. I've used it on stage and the sound is OK. But just OK.
I'm going to change to a pro card, but that will cost about $500.00 as it has MUCH higher quality sound samples and has multiple ins and outs. But most of those cards, are not sound blaster compatable and will not play a lot of the other formats like, Real Audio, Flash Audio, Windows Media etc. They recognize Wave, PCM, MID and that sort. Some don't even play MP3. So if you decide to go that route, you can't ditch your other card as you will still need it. This built in is good enough for all that OTHER stuff.. I think it's called a V97 or somthing to that effect..

hamsamich @ Wed Jul 26, 2006 2:37 pm wrote:  please let us know what you think when you are done! jim Ok, the choice depends on how you want to use it. I liked Karafun the best of all the players I've tried so far, even the CAVS player. Karafun doesn't seem to play CD+G disks, I hope I'm wrong on this. The CAVS player has a couple of obvious advantages. It is cheaper for the full version. It can play CD+G disks. I recomend trying both to see which one you prefer. The karafun is almost fully functional as freeware. The CAVS piece has limitations in trial mode. I will be using the Karafun freeware because it does everything I need it to do. I hope this helped hamsamich. UPDATE: I was wrong. Karafun does play Karaoke CD+G disks. I don't need anything else. Echo Karaoke @ Sun Jul 23, 2006 3:33 am wrote: I have been using KARAFUN. It's great. Plays off the CD or from your hard drive. Also plays MID and KAR files. And, the bnackgrounds are changable. I use it for the shows at the schools as I have a lot of KAR files that are not out on CDG. But tghey also bring in thier own disks and so far, it seems to be the one program that does it all, including recording.. And, it's freeware....... Thanks Echo Karaoke. This does everything I need. Keep in mind I only use this for home use so it's perfect.

How do you build your database in Karafun? When you have a lot of CD+G's the last thing you want to do is type all that info in.

get audiograbber and make sure you are connected to the I-net when you are ripping your disks to your hard drive. audiograbber should rename them for you. if you don't have the I-net on the puter you are trying to use to run Kfun on, then you have to go to a puter w/ audiograbber and I-net, then make a data disk with all the songs named for you by the I-net, then take that disc to the puter with Kfun on it. k?

Yea, what he said...
I don't do play lists or anything. I just leave them in one big folder and do everything alphabetical. If a song is named in the wrong format for how I like it, I change it. Time consuming yes, but works fine for me. All my songs are by artist, then song, like this:
Larry Kohlruss - Whiskey Lullaby.mp3
Most music programs like this format, as it is the same as the ID 3 tags used in many programs ( like Winamp ) for music identification.

I use a spreadsheet for my songlists. We only have a 1400 song collection. If it gets too big we might change that but it works really well for now.
We sort the songs by disk number then track number. I also put the song title on the file so if I see one I like while hosting, I put it in the player from there.
I'm lovin' Karafun.

No, but you need to load each picture into the program. Not just copy it to the picture directory. Now, you CAN if you want, attatch a particular picture to a particular song. Every timer that song loads, the same picture will come up. It's a lot of time consuming work, but if you have the time and the HD space, it's pretty cool.

My problem with doing all that file work, is that I have about a half million music files. The CDGs that I sing, and about 499,998 midi karaoke files.. And most of them have part names and wrong names and...... so on and so forth..
