You'd be amazed how many overseas flight fly via the north pole and south pole.

True Tim, Until you actually look at the path on a somewhat accurate globe, or consider the jet-stream, etc...

We landed in Shannon airport in 1972 during the bombing. We weren't able to take advantage of the tax-free airport and buy liquor, we couldn't leave the building.. You could hear and feel the ground shaking as the bombs were exchanged... That was a nasty time to land in Ireland...

Actually magnetic north isnt right at the pole but offset. Did you know jian when water in a sink drains north of the equator it is clockwise. South of the equator it drains counter clockwise.

I like the way he said it for me because I was too young to know anything about the physics involved.

At the equator the water goes straight down.
