There has been a few singers I would like to tune out.  Just learn to take the good with the bad, and hope you have more good.  But I would never do anything to make them sound bad.  I probably wouldn't do anything that in turn would make the system sound bad.

Can't push it enough.  You have to treat all the singers the same.  Good , Bad, Best and even the most horrible ones that it leaves a ringing in your poor ears.  I too have the talent of tuning them out.  Mic adjustment always helps.  I always make sure that they were liked by pumping the crowd to clap.  Keeping my talking at a minimum as we move to the next singer.  I always will try to not have the singer follow a great singing as well.  The way rotation works sometimes it is unavoidable but if I can pull it off I do.  Karake is for fun!  It takes a lot of nerve for these people to even get up on stage.  I tell them on the side I am not responsible for their safety if they faint.  I also don't agree with the statement "virgin karaoker" .  I HATE that.  If I were new to this and it was my first time up and I was labled at that, I would leave the bar!  Ok I am rambling here....just remember, this is all supposed to be fun and for EVERYONE to have a good time.  With all things in life you have to take the good with the bad.

There is one type of karaoke singer that I find kind of amusing.  I'm not sure if they're in all clubs or not, but I'm talking about the singer who will spend literally two hours thumbing through the song books in search of THE perfect song to sing.
He/she doesn't pay any attention to who else is singing or even bother to talk to anybody at his table.  He is just dedicated to finding that ONE perfect song to sing. Then when he finally gets up and sings the song, it's some totally ordinary everyday song!!!! We went through two hours of searching for this one!    LOL

Even though they can be painful to listen to, I kind of admire the bad singers. It takes a lot of intestinal fortitude to get up there knowing that people are going to tell you how bad you sounded. (Not me, I use the line about how much I like the song and avoid any mention of the singer's execution--literally--of it.)

There is one train-wreck of a singer at the place in Grand Prairie. Bless her heart, she has great stage presence for a scuzzy-looking middle-aged woman, and she can belt out a song like nobody's business. Of course, it sounds like a rhino in heat, but you come to exepct that. The problem is that we are all waiting with bated breath to meet the talent scout from Nashville who has told her she is the next big thing. And we haven't figured out which club hosts all these contests she keeps winning.

Sing from the heart (or wherever that noise is coming from). But don't lie. We are drunk, not deaf.

Baad singers are one thing, I think this topic was meant for the absolute HORRIBLE singers.

I have one girl who comes in and I cringe every time I see her coming with a song slip.  Not only is she tone deaf, but she's got no rhythm either, so she's off key and out of time with the music.  My technique is to turn the mic down so she can barely hear herself and then I walk away because I don't want my customers to think I'm responsible!  LOL  The funny thing is that she gets mad if someone eases over toward the stage to sing along to try and get her on key or at least on tempo.

Oh well.  Occupational hazard!

When they are like that, can't get on key and keep time, makes you wonder what's going on in their head.  What are they hearing that we aren't?    Must be dog frequencies.  LMAO

One club I done had a "singer" that couldnt put a note in a bucket. But he enjoyed singing his version of mustang Rachel. When he got used to my system and I learned what fx to apply to his vocal he expanded into a couple of elvis songs His confidence grew and actually started singing. While hes not the greatest he compensates with various ways to entertain...

His wife Rachel sings Tu Solo Tu  and blows me away everytime she sings it.

I'm not near as critical of people who can't carry a tune/can't sing in time/ blah blah... as most people are. Some are hard to listen to, yes, but... I just have a different mindset than most people. They are up there singing for THEIR enjoyment, not MINE. And seeing people get pleasure from their 3 minutes of fame onstage... IMO is worth WHATever you have to listen to.

I have loved to sing all my life, and can't imagine if I could not do it anymore. I can't fathom people who WONT sing... even if they CAN'T sing... because it's such an enjoyable thing to do. I have always- all my life- encouraged other people to sing. -Not caring if they can or not.- And alot of times, they can't..... but they walk away with a great feeling of having done it. And that.... makes it all good. They did something they enjoyed, and had a blast, and big deal if my ears bled a bit. Songs only last 3-4 minutes, I can handle that.

And...as Sin said... I've butchered my share of songs too, and as of yet, I've never had anyone tell me to sit down & shuddup. Turn about is fair play, if they can listen to me sing whatever strikes my fancy, regardless to how I do, then I can listen to them do the same. It's all in fun.
