Hi Guys,
Has anyone in this group used KaraokeGoRound? Do you love it? Do you hate it? Is it reliable? If you switched to another, why?

I bought it months ago, and I've just found time to start the tutorials this week. I have 4 KJs under me, and one (OK, actually two!) of them are dumb as a bag of hammers, bless their hearts. What we've got going now is too limited to run a sophisticated, interactive show, so I snagged KGR as a way to make it more fun for everyone and get them OUT of the BOOTH. (I also plan to go remote to that end.)

So, before I get the kids out for a Sunday afternoon training session, I want to make sure I've got an effective, efficient, trainable program so I don't have to have them back out for something else...again...for a while... The DIVA of all KJs works for us and can be a real pill about all this "LEARNING HER TRADE".

I know I'll have to babysit the more - ummm - "challenged" KJs for a few weeks on nearly anything, but I want something with a few bells and whistles that works reliably for the more computer literate KJs. I'm also taking them onto some remote system so there will be more KJ/customer interaction (big deal to the owner).

Thanks in advance...
Cleo in San Diego

I think the lack of response answered the question.   I personally never heard anyone talk about that program. :)

I haven't heard of it either.  Tried using Google and no such luck.  Sorry.

I already throw up sitting on that little wooden horse, but If the music accompanying that constant circular motion of the horse moving up and down is lousy singing.... That'd just about kill me...... I'd have to say "Hate it"....

I know the man who created the Karaoke go Round software, and he has been trying to get me to use it for quite some time.

It has some great features, like storing singer's songs and maintaining information that might be useful when dealing with bar owners such as the number of unique singers at any particular show, and how many songs were sung etc.  I know he also has it set up to be used with a "bookless" show using satellite laptops.

HOWEVER

He has brought this to my show to let me get some hands on time with it, and I was singularly unimpressed.  It seemed a bit unwieldy as I had to switch from window to window during the show, and even worse was the fact that I got BSOD (Blue screens of death) three times over the course of the evening delaying my show and interrupting the flow.

I have been usung the Sax and Dotty's show presenter for over a year now, 5 nights a week.  It has NEVER crashed and couldn't be easier to operate.  Plus, at $45 it's about $350 cheaper!

Hi Guys!
Yep, the response, or lack thereof, tells me A LOT! :)

To link to this program's tutorials, which will tell you more than the 'hype' pages will, go here: http://www.activeaspsoftware.net/default.aspx?x=75

Big Mike:
Your story is one that makes me nervous about the program i.e. saying it crashed your puter during a show. Now, I've got a Pentium III with 80G solely dedicated to running a hosting program and player. I have an additional internal 300G solely dedicated to store the karaoke and background music, and it sits only half full. I keep this absurd about of power/space for just such occasion. My KJs are challenged enough - if the thing goes down in the middle of a show, even there's a tiny glitch that changes anything, I'm being paged to run out to the bar and fix whatever random (@$%&#!) is happening. THIS is something I REALLY don't wanna haffta do!!

When I bought this program (yes, i spent the gawd-awful-amount) it was after I saw the tutorials, which were different than they are now. It didn't show that you have to change screens from the que to the rotation, as it clearly shows now. I think this will befuddle my peeps.

I have them up there using Sax & Dotty's, as you do, and yes, it is wonderfully reliable and easy to use. However, some are screaming for bells and whistles - well, the compitent ones are - and as we all know, S&D's is simplistic to a fault. Apparently, I'm going to have to look further and find something in between Hokey Column A and Overly-Complex Column B.

If KGR WORKS...man, it'll be SWEET~!!!! It's so amazing comprehensive, and so wonderfully diverse...in theory, the simpler KJs could use it to just run their simpler shows, and the more adjusted KJs could just go to town with all of the truly amazing features it has to offer. The only problem is that with something so complex and diverse, there tends to be glitches...and I'm "UP TO HERE" with glitches! I've got everyone on an even keel now with S&D's...don't wanna have to move into the bar again to hold everyone's hand.

Fortunately, both S&G and KGR run off of the zipped files, so I CAN keep the S&D's hoster going and let those who have an adventurous streak try the KGR software. And - KNOCK ON WOOD - they can always just activate S&D's if something gets screwy with KGR. If I'm lucky, it'll do what it's supposed to...but I'm not a lucky person so I'm heavily insured! :) But I have to give the bloody thing a fair shake after spending a billion dollars to buy it and a too-embarrassing-to-admit number of hours to learn to teach it.

Y'all check out their tutorials...of course, it has more stuff than any KJ actually would ever use, but it's interesting to see what's possible.

Big Hugz from SoCAL,
Cleo

You are right Cleo, both run off the same format of files, and they both use the winamp player.

If you have KJs working for you who are technophiles, they will probably love the KGR.  Lots of stuff to play with there, although I can't understand why most of the features would be interesting to someone other than the owner of the company looking to present some numbers to a venue.

I also agree that the S&D is simple to a fault, I have written them asking for them to devise some way to display the rotation (or at least the next 4-5 singers) on the screen.  Right now their performer screen allows for only the next singer.

The night he brought it around to demo it, the software was running on one of his laptops (which he also sells fully loaded and ready to go) and it still crashed, forcing him to reboot.  Perhaps Rick has worked some of the bugs out of the program, in all fairness it's been probably a year and a half since I've seen it.

When I was hunting down hosting software I tried out a few.  KGR scared me becasue of the price.  I demoed it, but did not like it, too much clicking around.  Check MTU's products, good for what they do, but pricey.  So I chose Sax&Dotty's Show Presenter (the Original, not the new DIgital Entertainer Pro).

If you have some less than intelligent peeps working for you, I would recomed either S&D's Show Presenter, or Sack O Nuts.  I have used Show Presenter while compleatly drunk, and was still able to put on a good show.  ANd I have heard from otherts that it is just as easy with Sack O Nuts

Thanks for the great info!

I had tried the Sack O Nuts, but it caused some virus-like behavior in my system. I'm like, "WHOA WHOA WHOA" and quickly did a Remove Program on it!

I'm amid an Equipment Setup Standoff which has bought some more time for me to try MTU and perhaps a few other programs. I'll present them with a program they'll like better when they set things up the way I asked them to. It's an incentive...

Does anyone have additinoal suggestions for programs I should try?
