k.com had many of their remaining DK discs on sale for 10 for $39!! I picked up 14 discs, even though I had many of the songs originally on other lesser brands!

I am new but have always jumped right in where angels fear to tread... I love SGB
but then I am not a KJ or a karaoke singer. I use them for backing trax and its rare that I find a bad one...one does spring to mind...I think its daydream believer it just sounds a bit raw and trebly. But Pink Floyd and the Blues and Jazz tracks are brilliant

Did you get the CAVS DVD202G with the USB port in the back for adding a hard drive to it making it a karaoke jukebox? Because I'm very interested in this player and would like some user info on it.[/quote]
I am poised to purchase this player for the hotel I work for, they want a player they can hire out at functions will let you know how it goes. I bought it specifically because of the usb so as we can use it as a jukebox type thing as well. There will be no KJ so the idea of scdg appealed. One disc with the door taped shut means no scratches and no costly replacements

I've been looking at that 1 too. You can convert you Cdg to MP3+MCG the cavs format and put thousands of songs on a hard drive or convert them to divx avi files and do the same it will run both acording to the Cavs forum.
You can also check out this player I;I'm checking out now
http://www.ab-cds.com/Queries/V2Go_GO-1 ... ?ci=142091
This will work with the Avi divx files.

divx is just a compressed avi file so your karaoke track is the size of an MP3.

Yes I am a newbie, but I have SANG alot of karaoke and hosted small parties. I can see a difference in SGB disks (I just bought 66 disk pac 2 weeks ago) from some better karaoke, but I really like the selection of music, and the quality is good enough for me. I am not a professional, however. But I've held 3 small parties since buying SGB and most of my friends raved about the new selection; they weren't that drunk and they didn't seem to care about the small? dip in quality Then again, my system is a piece of crap hooked into a fairly good home stereo system. I have 30 other disks of many different makers and they were hardly used. Yes, SGB was the new selection, but obviously the lower quality didn't drive the people at my parties to ask for the other "higher quality" discs. In my view, karaoke is for fun and only a certain level of musical quality is required. I'd like to see some proof in the pudding. Any of you bigger time KJs had anyone complain (more often) when you used the SGB collection? Maybe the customer should have the final say.

For private use on a home stereo - they are fine. I have used the SGB, had customers bring in theirs as well & i've played them on my system, I wasn't impressed. I had several of their songs on better quality discs & asked if they wouldn't mind trying my version just to see what the difference is - they no longer use their SGB discs - so the customer gave the final say.

I have many of the SGB disks. Although I would not use them for my solo show, they do fine for most karaoke singers. I do however, get the odd singer that askes for a specific brand of song, and for some reason, it's never a SGB.. . I also have quite a few Sound Choice disks. Over all, I prefer them, but have found some of thier songs are too far diffrent from the original. But my top choices for disks are Sound Choice and Top Hits Monthly. On a 1 to 10 scale. I'd say 4 for SGB, 8 for THM, and 8 for SC. Non of what I have found so far gets a 10 except the Tyco Tunes cassettes that I use to get for my shows. Thier sound quality was so good. I didn't try thier midi tunes, but thier live recorded where the best. WEish they made Karaoke..

I've been playing the SGBs and a couple of the songs do sound really bad. Like James Taylor's "Carolina.." I like alot of them though but I can see why they have gotten a bad name

We have a bunch of SGBs but of course we are tightwads and they are for home use. We (Chuck, Sharon, Rich and I) got a shock last night when we put in a Helluvadisc for the firt time in ages and it was AWFUL. Very "midi" and tinny!. Chuck just got a set of Dangerous CDGs and I was not expecting much for the price, but wer are really enjoying them.

a few, and that #66 is one of them, are fine for a pro show... but as with all things, you have to check them out individually.
Not all SC are terrific either, although I'll be the first to admit I prefer them over most other brands. Only one that will top them are the old Pioneer, and even some of those are just "okay"

! I'm not talking the "cheesy" videos dude, but more the audio quality and the close comparison to the original music. A friend I partied with suggested "China Grove" to a regular, and handed the KJ a Chartbuster disc. I frowned, and pointed out the pioneer laser disc that was in the local's songbook.
My buddy disagreed, and I asked the kj to play a few moments of it.
Ten seconds later, my buddy agreed with that particular song! !
I also have the majority of the pioneer CDGs too...

Lonman dahlin you know you are my hero doncha? But I still defend SGB for the jazz and blues tracks AND most of the pink floyd. And I do use them proffessionally personally and solo
