Remember a few months ago when many of us wondered if we were going to die any day now from the bird flu?  Then it just kind of disappeared from the news. Is it just not "cool" anymore?  Too passe? Was it like the "pet rock" of diseases, but now nobody cares?  LOL  Was a cure or vaccine found and nobody bothered to tell me?   LOL . Just curious!

I'll bet the media decided it wasn't scary enough to report on.

There is still a threat it can become a problem. I think the news media blew it out
of proportion in the beginning, so people got rely scared. Since they have no cases of it being reported in the United States and the people who became infected with the avian flu caught it directly from birds in other countries the scare has died down. It cannot be spread from person to person as of now, but researchers think there might be the chance it may mutate and become a problem. There have only been about 160 reported cases world wide and most of the countries who have reported out breaks have contained it. Not a big threat in my mind right now. I'm sure if we
had a case in the US it would be all over the news.

Now when the elephnat flu breaks out we'll all run for the woods.  LMAO

I think that was a movie of the week disease. Kinda like here in FL, where all you hear about are shark attacks, even though last year there were 16 shark attacks in FL resulting in 2 fatalities.  By the numbers, shark attacks were the 119th leading cause of death in FL in 2005, yet it is all over the news. Here are some of the more interesting categories that the government keeps that caused more fatalities than sharks last year in FL (with number of 2005 deaths):

Latex Gloves - 6
Disneyland rides - 6
Bean Bag Chairs - 8
Newspapers - 12
Soda Machines - 12
Flammable Sleepwear - 12
College Football games (spectators) - 24
Bath Tubs - 48
Roller Skates - 60
Window Blinds - 78
Vehicle Airbags - 90
Skydiving - 30
Bees/Wasps - 50
Lightning - 188
Acupuncture - 100
Ants - 100
Candles - 126
Police Officers - 151
Airplanes/Helicopters - 600
Bicycles - 800
Deer - 211
Chicken - 200
Childbirth - 302
Train Collisions - 805
Agricultural Equipment - 1300
Cell Phones - 2500
Base Jumping/Bungee Jumping - 100

SO, the moral of the story is that next time you are pregnant on your cell phone in your airbag-equipped car wearing your pajama bottoms and latex gloves crossing the railroad tracks over a bridge on your way to Disneyland with a police officer behind you while a kid rides his bike on the sidewalk near a chicken farm, just think to yourself "Maybe it would be safer to just go swim with some sharks."

Grasshoppers didn't show up on the list. When they get up there and mate with the flu carrying birds we are gonna be in really big trouble.

Biting grasshoppers carrying avien flu is not my idea of a picnic. Now, if they were carrying avian water...

When the cell user is on the subway yelling into the phone, they do get annoying.

To me. the bird flu, SARs, global heating, mad cow, etc are not as nearly as serious as the media makes it out to be.  Even if there were a thousand deaths (which there was not), in a population of 6,000,000,000, it is a drop in the bucket.  More people die of regular flu.

The news media has a very short attention span.  In addition a catastrophe only makes the news if enough people die.

It wasn't all that long ago that the television networks had us all believing that we were about do die in a tsunami.  The stations in Milwaukee even invested a fair amount of money researching the likelihood of a "killer" tsunami in Lake Michigan.

That all died down and so has bird flu, killer bees, the California "big one" earthquake, and comet/meteor strikes.  Chuck's biting grasshopper epidemic hasn't taken hold yet but the first reporter to get bitten will turn it into a national calamity overnight.  I'm so glad that Wisconsin doesn't appear to be in the path of this next disaster.  Perhahps when the movie comes out. LOL

Its like the west nile virus.... Here in co maybe a couple of horses die from it and I dont know how many humans.  Our immune system from what we eat and drink is totally different han other parts of the world...It also depends on the diseases (or flus) we contacted and defeated...

Once in Istanbul Turkey sailors bought many camel saddles to take home. About 2 days out over 2/3's of the crew was totally knocked down with a severe case of dhiarea and flu symptons. They deep sixed all the saddles for they had fleas in the straw that most were affected by..Luckily I didnt catch it but my immune system was probalby changed anyway.. By the way the animal in Africa that kills many more people than any other animal is the mosquito.......

There are a few things I think should be reported on more like
global warming.

Come down here and go disturb a FIRE ANT mound, you'll find out real quick.....  LOL

Those little guys have a painful bite with toxins in them. Get bitten enough you can go into shock and some people die. Some people might not even know they are allergic to fire ant bites.

For more information, google: fire ant florida
