The cream always rises to the top, no matter how long you shake it up.    I know of many that thought they could do what I do.       They now come to my karaokes, on prime nights.   Can't find any work of their own.    Makes me laugh.    LMAO  I 'm so good, I just made it look easy.   You found out it isn't all fun and games.  After you spent a lot of money (actually not enough money) to try to be me.     Like Bush said, "Bring it on".

I've only made one mistake in my life.... it just happened to last 30 years.

The truth of the story is only as truthful as the person telling it.

If I tell you a story about anything that has happened or I have seen, you can believe that every detail and action that occured is exactly how it happen.  I'm not a person that needs to enhance or stretch the truth to get some kind of additional pleasure.    I speak the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.    So help me, DOG.

You know that there are some people in this world that are and always will be weasels.    He could be one of those,... I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.   You know people that constantly lie, steal, cheat.     You know some that are always A**HOLES TOO.   A leopard never changes his spots.     Remember the story about the snake that tricked the little girl into taking him in from the cold?    He ended up biting her, and when she lay dieing, she asked him why, after she had been so kind to save his life.    His reply was "You knew I was a snake, when you picked me up".
Personally, I wouldn't tell him what time it was to take life saving medicine.      Much less how I do karaoke

The "snakey" analogy my brother uses is "business is business, family is family" like I am just suppose to have "known" this was going to happen like it did. He called me ( in the midst of his antics ) about 3 days ago and started the conversation off by saying " are you going to the family reunion Sunday?" I was like I cant believe you have the nerve to call and talk about family matters when I cant even stand to look at you, and hung up ! He called my hubbys cell and said " I dont want this to interfere with family" :(  My hubby told him it was too late for that. I mean honestly if he'd have called a few days before that and apologized for all of this mess and said he wold quit messing with us ( or at least not come around where we do business to drum up business for himself ) I "might have" talked to him. But just to act like there wasn't anything wrong with what he has been doing was just crazy !!Some people have no walkin' around sense !!!
Now really business IS business Family IS family but to take that and to hide behind it to rationalize such garbage is rediculous ! I could have dealt with just the competition I believe I've said that several times, but dirty competition ... I  havent been dirty to any of the KJs around here including my brothers bunch so I  feel that he should compete fairly upon " their " merits and we'll do the same. Guess some people don't get that and have a lack of respect for themselves as well as who they're competing with.
Thank for bring your points up !!

There are decent KJ's out there.  And there conniving pigs...  Don't mean to sound ignorant, but that is the class I put them in.
I would never try to steal someones bread and butter from them.  I respect every KJ who has worked hard at making a GOOD name for themselves.
We good ones can't help it some of them are just unscrupulous.  But they are there.  And as someone else said, we have to deal with the situation when it comes around.  Just don't look at me for help when your in a bind.  I can usually forgive, but don't forget.  Unless it comes to my work.  Then I don't fogive either.  I used to feel sorry for the low lifes that thought they could steal my jobs.  Figured they must need the work pretty darn bad.  But you know what?  They couldn't compare to what I had, and how I held a job.  Now I regret having to share a title with them.  That of being a KJ.

Those that want quality will pay for it, those that don't, won't.  If you have a good product, reasonably priced, you should be able to survive and flourish.

 True! and I know this while Im asking for advise about what to do in this situation. I also  know we have the " upper hand " in those dept's but  its very hard to put on a good show with someone RIGHT IN MY FACE ( at that show ) not  competing fairly upon their merits but trying to " steal"  by telling a customer to come to HIS shows. We did let the manager know and he made him leave but it was already almost too late cards were handed out shpeals ( sp ?)  were made by the time I found out what he was doing.

Might I say also that coke and pepsi are two huge companies with lots of marketing officials and $ . A much bigger market for them than karaoke. I dunno really where I was going with that but, my point is there is enough $ ( because thats ultimatly what hes got on his mind , quick $, Im looking for long term business here ) in this town for both of us why be where MY business is ? Coke and Pepsi have been in compitition for a long time now. Im just saying we can BOTH make it without this childish slanderous crap hes pulling. And yes I STILL think its immoral and unethical no matter how anybody spins it. (Just me)

I don't consider myself a "KJ", but instead, a "host". A total, rounded package.

Having said that, I don't consider ALL KJs equals. If someone is using downloads or a drive bought off E-bay, I wouldn't have any qualms about offering my services for hire to the bar, and indicate that I too was computerized, but that I used all legally bought discs, so if I were ever to be heavily scrutinized, I could stand up under pressure. I also have many years of hosting experience, a good website, songbooks kept up to date, and damn decent equipment.

However, I wouldn't be a cheapo like the $$75 a night rookies... if they want a better host, it would indeed cost them more because I have to PAY more. Those discs, the songbooks, the equipment and my expertice... all costs MONEY to reimburse me.

You know Knightshow, not to try to stray too far off subject, but I've always prefered the term "Karaoke Host" over "K.J." also. Good Point.

"Karaoke Host" sounds a little more professional.... and accurate to the job we do. "K.J." kinda' sounds like a person who puts in discs for singers, and not as people oriented, IMHO. Plus I STILL meet people at karaoke shows who ask "What's a K.J.?" LOL

You could always tell the bar owner, he's in there to steal business.   Have him tossed out.   Business is business, right. Oppps sorry....
