LMAO I sometimes have a voice conference with my ex boyfriend (Welsh born, lives in Derbyshire now) and my friend Ian (from Kent). If they have both been drinking I don't even try and understand them anymore  :no:

Yup.  I had to read it three times before I finally got the real (I think) meaning.

Gilly, any guy who would allow your speech impediment to ruin a romantic moment doesn't deserve to live.  Even if you do sound a bit like Elmer Fudd (I think that's cruel) you sure as he|| don't look like him (cruel and stupid seem like enough justification to take extreme measures, to me!  Besides, there seems to be a whole lot more to you than a speech impediment.

Lol, My husband and I were enemies in grade school, then years later, best friends through high school... and then, we dated, and NOW we are whatever we are.

We know each other INSANELY well.... he can pretty much get away with making fun of my "r" problem... in bed, or out;)

Besides.... i am not romantic. AT ALL. So, any moment being ruined would be HIS.... I am ALWAYS doing that.... I find it INCREDIBLY hard to be serious.... I also occasionally sing, or hum quietly during sex (Really strange odd songs, that just happen to pop into my head.).. or start talking about something funny that happened that day.. during a time i SHOULDN"T be talking about that...... combine that with my general goofiness, and everything else, and you have for some ruined moments;).... So, if HE happens to make fun of me when i am whispering in his ear... Lol, good for him.. he NEVER gets a good joke in:)

But, thanks for that:) You made me grin;)

(Come over later, the husband is away;)

Long as you don't hum or sing "Short People" Hey Little One" you shouldn't hurt the mood.   LOL

My kids are always makin fun of the way I say words.  It was how things were pronounced when I was growing up in Nebraska;

Gi-tar (hard G)
Dee-troit

But I don't like the way they say Colo-raah-do.  Sounds too "la-di-da fancy" to me.

LOL I had a guy ask me if I would sing to him during sex... I would hope that I wouldn't be that easily distracted during it...

I have always pronounced sandwich as samwinch.  I don't know why I have always done that...

Our time spent in H*ll, a.k.a. Arkansas was interesting.  The dialect is quite different than what I was accostomed to.  I once worked with a young woman who lived with her parents (she was in her early 20's) and her parents had livestock that they would all tend.  They butchered their livestock and her mother made chitlins (sp?)...  Anyway, she used to tease me about the way I said certain words and the syllable on which I placed the emphasis.  One Friday we were talking and she said she had a date that night and had to go home and earn her shirt.  I asked her what on earth her father made her do to earn her shirt and she said "Not earn, iron!"  It sounded exactly the same to me...  LOL

I also spent a few years on the end of an 800 line as an automobile insurance underwriter for our book of business in the state of Texas.  Part of our instruction was to match the tempo of speech of the person we were speaking with.   It was VERY difficulty adjusting as I used to speak very quickly..  Having lived in Oklahoma for so long and so many years on the phone with Texans (ABSOLUTELY NO OFFENSE TO EITHER STATE) I now speak quite differently than many of my family members and still get teased every once in awhile (& I've lived in Oklahoma for over 20 years)!

Susie :)

ya'll talking about folks from other countries reminded me about my bro-in-law.  he's from ireland and trying to understand him is like trying to understand opera  not only does his accent throw me, but he doesn't use the right words for stuff.  like he calls a coffee pot something taht to this say i don't know what he's saying.  listening to him order food in another matter entirely.  i love going to dinner with him and watching the waiter/waitress try to get his order correct!
