word had filtered through the karaoke community for the past couple of weeks that last night would be the last night for karaoke. word had not filtered around that the bar and i had reached and agreement to keep karaoke going.
what made me feel absolutely tingly is that the bar was PACKED last night in a show of support for keeping karaoke. everyone made sure that the bar manager (who happened to be bartending last night) knew how important karaoke is to them. i guess sometimes you never really knowo what you've got til it's almost gone. i thanksed each adn every one of the patrons last night for supporting the cause. i bought each one of them around as well. i dind't make money last night, but i let them know just how important their business is to keep karaoke going!

WOW!!! That is awesome...That's like a TV show being cancelled and then they decide to keep it on the air because of mass support....
Congrats!!!! It sound like you had a ball....Maybe more people will start showing up for the show every week....

Awesome Steve, I'm glad to hear it. It's hard to find bars with decent karaoke here, so I know how the patrons felt about it being cancelled too. Glad to hear that you got some support from behind :hi5:

Good job man. Just another example of how you have to keep the faith in what you do.
Things always have a way or working themselves out, one way or another.

Had something similar happen one night. Except before the bar owner could cancel the Karaoke, the patrons made it a point to tell the bar owner they would not be back. Not to patronize the bar in any way. Dinner, dancing, bands, nothing!!! Guess they had heard something going around even before I did. The bar owner came up to me and said this was going to be my last night. It was halfway bfore I was done for the night. I had already put up with enough with that owner. I pulled the plug. I had every man in the bar help me pack and load. Handed out calendars, and invited everone who was interested to a private party 2 miles down the road, to finish the night. (Of course they offered!) The friend had a pool, deck and all that the bar owner could supply and then some. Within 3 days the bar owner called. These were people that actually patronized his bar frequently on nights even when it wasn't Karaoke. A lot of them didn't even sing. But loved the people that had the courage to do so. Guess he knew he screwed up. Well, it did cost him, because I had an opportunity to go elsewhere. I flat out told him, I will not be the last to know again. That I am a professional, and deserve to be treated like one. I am not going to bend over backwards for someone who doesn't have enough respect for me to be honest. RESPECT! That is the key word as far as I am concerned. If I respect you enough to put up with the lame brains I have to deal with all night to keep your bar full, then you have enough respect for me to tell me what is going on without talking behind my back.

Good for you.
Chipmonk stood out side the bar tonight looking at me for about an hour. He's barred from the bar when I do karaoke. A couple of karoke patrons saw him and decided to stick around until I got loaded up. One guy was a professional boxer. Crazy kinda guy, I did karoke in his bar for a while. Several others stuck around too. Chippy had some friends in the bar. I think there may have been something brewing.
This bar owner is about to learn a $50,000 lesson in messin' with the KJ that's filling her wallet. I already told her to make up her mind if she wanted Chippy or me. Maybe she misunderstood something. Here's the best part.... She was in the bar tonight when I got there to set up. She totally ingnored me. That is going to cost her $50,000 big ones. Stupid girl, don't know who butters her bread and it ain't the Chipmonk. Her attitude toward me and this matter and her stupid lack of loyalty to me, instead of the crack head is going to cost her. I think there maybe something going on that I am not aware of. Maybe she has some underhanded ties to the Chipmonk. Visa vi, drugs or something. He's an expensive little Chipmonk. Hope he spends $50,000 a year in her bar. And everybody that comes twice a week to see him in my place, do whatever he does to make her money.
She will experience the wrath of a KJ, scorned.

No Vocals,
Congratulations. There is nothing like support from the people who appreciate you. Keep up the good work and make 'em proud.

There is nothing worse than feeling unappreciated. I'll never understand
why bar owners don't understand the power of karaoke and the loyalty of
their crowds. Bar owners don't just shoot themselves in the foot when they dismiss
a loved KJ - They blow their darn foot off with an atomic bomb along with their business. I'm glad to hear you came out on top!

It sure was, Susie! In fact I made the comment last night to Saturday singer (he helps me with the show ona regular basis...then crashes in my spare room!) that it was probably the highest energy show we've done in a LOOOONGGGGGG Time! we had a blast, the patron had a blast, and best of all, the manager had a great night!

Sweet! Gotta love those win/win/win situations!
I'll bet your show will feed off that energy for a looong time to come!
