Just heard this the other day, and confirmed it again today:
Alanis Morrisette has re-released her songs for karaoke! From what's been said, her songs will be back in the karaoke mainstream market soon.
Have gotten the info from one of the main karaoke companies (C.B.), that they have gotten the rights to release her songs again, with the exception of her newest album.

Well that's excellent news for this ole boy. I know I raise a few eyebrows everytime I do Thank You and then tell folks that it's an Alanis tune. But then that's the way music should be, it should break barriers. Focus on the song not the fact that it's a female or male who originally did it.

You should see the look my girlfriend gives me when when we kiss.... and ya' think the gator had it bad .
I thought it was funny James, that you brought her songs up in your earlier thread trying to find her stuff, and then, all of sudden, out of nowhere...a company gets the rights her songs again.
Maninblack, you're good luck! Start talking about Eagles songs and see if it works for that too!

Got a couple of the Backstage Eagles discs, in addition to a couple of the S.C. originals that I would be scared to death to use.
Okay... maybe talking about the Eagles songs wont work, but thank you Ms. Morrisette!

Wouldn't mind sweeping that one up out of a dusty corner ! Some neighborhood kid probably found it and used it as a frisbee .

I don't understand why some song writer/artist in the west do not want their work to be sang in karaoke bar? If they get paid royalty for very discs sold what different does it make if their vox is not there. It is a very good side income. Eagle does not tour much now,and have no new stuff. How many cds of their songs can they sell now? Most of their fan already have their song but many who now want to sing the song find it hard to buy a cdg of them.
Sony Music/BMG opereration in Malaysia/Indonisa/Singapore will release a karaoke version of an album cd of their recording artist at the same time the cd is out. We get the ORIGINAL backing that way.

Alot of artists are like that, Don Henley HATES karaoke or even bands covering their music (even American Idol). He says they worked too hard to produce their music to have some drunk butcher it at karaoke. Or on the band deal, he said they had to create their own music, don't want others using their music to further their own career (or some assinine statement like that).
But you'd be surprised how many artists have pulled their right to karaoke - especially the Seattle 90's bands. Also alot of the problem isn't necessarily with the artists, but their publishing companies as well.
The record companies should have jumped on karaoke years ago, they already have the music done, all they would have needed to do was hire someone to word sync it to cdg. With multiplex technology, it could have been an underlying track to the original song.

With multiplex technology, it could have been an underlying track to the original song. That's what we have here. When we talk about original backing, it is backing music that was recorded by the original recording studio. And since vcd is the format here we have the original artist video clips too. There is no need to buy the cd to learn the song since the vcd is multiplex with the original artist vox along side. You guys miss a lot there. Sony/BMG USA need some one from the East to be the CEO for karaoke to be fun.[/quote]

When the Infatuation Junkie album came out, that's all I listened to, day after day.
One day out of the blue, I started singing along with Thank You, and couldn't find a decent key to fit my range. So just as a joke, I started doing it as though Peter Gabriel were singing it and it worked. So not only do you have a guy doing Alanis, but you've got him doing it with an accent. Where there's a will there's a way, and if you can't do it like the original artist, make up your own version of it....
Just like I've doing the Pussycat Dolls 'Don't Cha', first couple times, folks howled, now they really like it. But you would have to see it to really get the joke. Here you've got this biker looking dude singing, 'Don't you wish your boyfriend was hot like me'......what ever it takes, if it makes'em smile then it's a good thing.
James

James, I'm almost tempted to drive down the road and hear you sing those songs! Totally respect that kind of sense of humor. Kinda reminds me of when I worked at another place and would sing "Sweet Transvestite" wearing khakis and a polo shirt .
A biker-type guy singing "Don't Cha".... I would bring my video camera !
Karaoke with a good sense of humor... heck ya'!

A whole Alanis disc has been out for at least a year or more. It came out on Sing King, a Canadian manufacturer, and is very well done.

When I was in high school, one of the history teachers dressed up all sleazy and did a lip synch to Sweet Transvestite at a school assembly.... it was hilarious. I wish that karaoke backings were so readily available then, he probably would have sang it too.
