I know that this may still be too geeky forr some, that's cool because we will not stick to this topic for long anyway.

Don't be ashamed to post about your favorites here. All you have to do is say that it was a passing interest when you were about 11 or so.

DC comics had the cleaner cut good vs bad in some of their comics, as far as I know anyway. Marvel seemed to infuse the problems of real life characters into their far out superheroes.

What do you think?

EDIT: I meant to say that I thought of this at a karaoke show while somone was singing Kryptonite. Man, I like that song.

DC includes Superman, Batman, Wonder-Woman...
They iked to use primary colors, colors that we men actually know the names of.

Marvel has Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man...
They would use other colors that I can't begin to name but prolly saved them some bucks if bought as "oops!" colors.

I was an avid comic book reader as a child and young adult.  My preference was always for Marvel, not just for the more sophsticated story line but back in my day they had some of the most talented artists in the industry working for them--I mean these guys (and some gals!) were the very best ever: Jack Kirby (whose composition I used to copy from and create my own little comic stories), John Romita, John Buscema, Jim Steranko, Wallace Wood, Gene Colan, George Evans, just the best.  I had a collection of some 2,000 comics books.  I gave them away when we moved here to Minnesota from New Jersey.  I cannot emphasize enough what an impact those wonderful comic books had on me!

While The Fantastic Four, The Hulk, etc. were the most popular, I was always a fan of "Dr. Strange", usually drawn by Wallace Wood.  I didn't know at the time they were drawing from the works of H.P. Lovecraft (whom I subsequently read and really liked)..there was a real sense of mythos to this particular Marvel character and stories.

DC definitely.  But  then I'm a simpler sort.  I always hoped to find out what Wonder Woman looked like under the red, white and blue.

I was a big-time Captain America (Marvel) fan as a kid...

My brother, now...he's a comic-book geek in every sense, to this day...he knows more about Marvel Comics...and the movies made from them...than any other person I know!

Well I was a definite book geek when I was a kid, and still am to this day. I have thousands to my personal collection. As for comics, I was still a geek, I love Gold Key. I like the classics but was really taken in by Doc Magnus, Robot Fighter and Turok, Son of Stone. As for DC, it was Metal Men hands down and Dial H for Hero. For Marvel, I was a Doctor Strange fan all the the way. Even in elementary school I was a huge Poe and Lovecraft fan. By the fourth grade, I had already read Frankenstein and Dracula, of course not really understanding half of the language but still enthralled just the same.
My favorite card game was Authors, of which I still have a set. Modern comics don't interest me that much unless it's something really groundbreaking in a particular genre, say like the Watchmen series, or Faust. I collected V for Vendetta and Sandman for a while, but really only for the cover artwork. Of course being into horror at a very early age, I got caught up in the Tales of Terror and all the ultra-violence junk that was popular during the mid 60's. Like I said though I'm not really interested in comics these days, but every so often, you'll find me thumbing through boxes looking for the off the wall stuff.

I shouldn't be so narrow in the question post. There is much more in life than DC and Marvel.

I am learning things already that I really had not anticipated.

Does anybody remember Charleton Comics?  They were, even to an indiscriminating 10-year old, so bottom of the barrel that you felt sorry for them, like a puppy missing a leg or something, so you always bought one or two of them along with the Marvel and DC things.

Didn't they do Blue Beetle on a tv show too?

There was indeed a "Blue Beetle".  I believe he was from the Golden Era and they brought him back briefly in the 60s (Marvel)

My favorite villain in Marveldom was "Dr. Doom".  I'm almost certain Lucas conceived Darth Vader after him.

Well... I am not a comic book geek from childhood but I have 2 kids, both boys. I was recently informed that Elektra is a Marvel character (cause my son just got Marvel Nemesis, Rise of the Imperfects and she's in the game) My son was shocked I didn't know she was a Marvel character (as if mom is supposed to pay attention during the credits!) I actually do love comic book based movies... X Men, Spiderman, Elektra, Hulk, hmmm... sensing a theme here? Although I do stray sometimes... I wanted to be Wonder Woman when I was a little girl, and one of my favorite comic book movies was Hellboy (having issues finding out exactly what comic book maker was responsible...although the creator was Mike Mignola). I'd make an unfaithful comic book geek I guess!
