There is no difference. I have foudn that generally if they advertise it as a "karaoke" amp, they add in a few karaoke functions, like key change, into the amp and sell it for more. It ends up being more like a home theater pre-amp and less like a PA amp in many cases. By the same token, if it is advertised as a "DJ" amp, they are charging you a bit more as well just due to the "DJ" marketing, which usually entails giving you more raw power but less quality power for you $$$.

Just go to one of the large musician retailers and look at the amps there for the best value. Musician's friend, American Musical, GUitar Center, Sam ASh, etc.. If you are on a budget, Behinger amps are a good value....I personally use Yamaha amps...

Never seen an amp that can change key; are we talking about mixer or power mixer here?

Yeah, for the most part when they advertise it as a "Karaoke amp" it is really a mixing amp with some karaoke features....

As stated, no difference.  There's really no such thing as 'kj' amp or 'dj' amp.  It's a power amp (unless you are buying a powered mixer which is basically an amp built into a mixer ie mixer/amp).  Anything with the word karaoke or dj and especially if it says 'professional' before either, you are generally going to be paying more for lesser quality.

I have a "karaoke amp", which as stated, is an amp with mic inputs, and a few karaoke functions. I personally like it as a stand alone feature, although the echo that comes with it is nothing more than a "rheostadt" "spring"...

I do like it because it has good features that I do USE for karaoke. Video outs (capability of three in and three out - I use it for one in, and three out! LOL!), ability for multiple inputs (DVD, CDG, Pre Amp IN and OUT ...

However, iIf you think you're going to get the same features as say a Mackie or even Behringer board, you're mistaken. I found the FX functions of both boards to be highly superior to what I have with just the karaoke amp.

I had the opposite experience between a mixer amp that was more for "live Band" and dj work and have also owened a karaoke mixer/amplifier. The echo processor in the karaoke amp was by far superior than the professional powered mixer that a friend talked me into buying. I quickly went back to the karaoke amplifier untill I made the mistake of installing it permanantly at a bar that went out of business and would not let me back in to get it. Believe it or not the AMplifier was made by CAVS and in my opinion the only good piece of equipment that CAVS ever built.

I see we are talking about a power mixer here. I use one; an asian non-brand with a jvc 3- trays. This one was good, esp for small place below 1500sq ft. Never clip it. It has 3 mic inputs, an ok efx but a real bad key changer.

There are many models of this machines being sold for the consumer end in my country and  costing between $70 to $200 us. They are mostly for home use.

If I still had the amplifier I would  use it as a mixer/preamp into the amplifer I have now.
