As Pete Seeger says, "I can read, but not enough to hurt my playing." I agree that I wouldn't want to be trying to do contemporary stuff. Frankly, I just don't have a feel for it. One of the reasons that my duo doesn't do much of anything that was recorded past 1985, and very little that was recorded after 1975 is that we both agreed that two people who look like us (gray hair, a meal or two past fighting weight, and a wrinkle here and there) would look stupid doing contemporary stuff.

When I was with a band, and someone wanted to sit in, assuming their tempo, and pitch was way off it was tough not to cringe.... I wouldn't be able to do this... It just seems like a drag.... What ever happened to "If ou humm a few bars..."?

Hey, I'm still singing "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter" and getting paid okay for it too.
I wouldn't touch that other stuff with your voice.

Not too many thing are "touched" by my voice, Larry... It's used to start avalanches, and change natural migratory patterns. Throw off balance in the ecosystem, etc
Terminex is trying to patent my singing voice. Big litigation thing going on around here

You have an awesome power, my son. Use it wisely; always for the good of mankind and never in anger or haste.
or, if you wanted to start an avalanche and eminem just happened to be standing at the bottom of the hill . . .

There's no money to be made in band bar gig's anymore, that's for sure. Not for lesser known acts.. That ended before disco was even around.. No money in the EW&F BS&T CHicago horn band with 7 pieces +

The monkeys used to play for about $100. I don't think they ever got a gig.
