Is that a reflection I'm seeing on the guitar or is that an actual pattern?

Lighting reflected from the ebonized finish.. It's mint condition... Not even fingerprints stay on it... It has a humidified case, and is one of the reason I don't collect high end guitars, I'm too anal... Other guitar about that nice in the Jazz box area is a Gibson ES-775... I wouldn't be able to handle what I'd have to pay for D'Angelico's in prestine shape that are vintage, nor am I enough of an investor, collector.. LEave that up to the wealthy folks
Keep in mind, my sources are Orion Blue book, and two years old.. I never felt like continuing paying a few hundred a year for newer books.... THose things are costly.
If it were the X-500 it wouldn't be ebonized, it'd be natural to show the maple configuration
YOu sell an X-500 like you would sell a nice car..... Advertise it locally... Someone WILL make the trip for it... You TAKE YOUR TIME selling it too... It's an investment if in excellent condition

Scott had in on consignment at a music store where he knew the owners but he didn't get any bites. The music store wasn't in Portland so that may have been part of the problem. It's a pricey guitar for sure!

I wouldn't want something that nice sitting in a consignment shop unless I knew the tradeoff was higher visibility, more serious buyer's coming thru... Just a standard music store will not get what the market value often is for that guitar, however if it's at Mandolin bros, Elderly instruments or G Gruhn, it will...Plus they nurture these things.... I'd be afraid some employee kid would dust it with a sandy chamois,,, pick it up, bang the headstock, someone would scrape it with clothing articles, etc... NOT good for resale....
ADDED IN:
I was wrong the X-500 is only in the vacinity of 700-2600 (tops), add about 1000 more for the X-550 in comparable condition. It's not as costly as I believed it to be..I have a tendency to throw all the nice jumbo jazz boxes into one category, and that's VERY wrong... It's no D'Angelico NY, or L-5/Switchmaster/Citation/Johnny Smith/ or even ES-775

yeah you're right. He took it out of the store already. He didn't mention anything about any added wear and tear so I guess it survived.

I thought that was a MUCH more valuable guitar, in fact I'm quite surprised that it isn't

This is why appraisal, and sale and purchase of these guitar's is trick.... The same Guitar with the name D'Angelico, or D'Aquisto might be 30-70K.
Poor wording on my part, "Similar guitar"

no it's not anywhere near that high in value. This more in the 3K-4K range I think.

My guess is Don, That might be why he can't sell it... Very few X-500's that I briefly looked up are over 3K, that would be the X-550..

As long as he doesn't sing or talk he's great. This is just too weird. I worked out Satisfaction at age 12 and felt pretty good about myself. This kid's from a different planet! ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) He should probably get hooked on heroin before he's 18 though in order to get that REAL low-down blues feel in his playing! ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif)

His guitar playing is brilliant. That doesn't mean his singing is. WAIT ERIC....DON'T bring your performance down, by trying to sing something that doesn't blend well with an 8 year old clean little boy's voice... WAIT til puberty, try again ! The blues doesn't sound good in choir boy soprano. Let the adults sing for now

Dear Santa,
As you know, It's been months since I last referred to you as a "fat pious gentile", For christmas this year, assuming you aren't too much of a cheap &*$#, can you please bring me a voice that can sing the scorpion's, and Boston..
Kappy
PS.. It's not your fault your actually a drunken irishman who was too much of
a coward to fight for this country during Nam..... So you fled, and moved up
north, and married a polish woman... I'm not judging you or anything...
Sometimes we have little control over life's situations... Just like it's not your
fault you're a goyim ! Bring my a damn voice, and I'll like you you loser !

Hey Kappy, Christmas is a long time away.
I can give you some pointers that may help. I sent a pm about it to you. I can't do this for everybody. It is intellectual property and I am only allowed on "off-sight back-up copy". This means that I can tell you what I know but you can't tell everyone else.
Also I will need to get you to sign a "no compete" form.
Chuck

Chuck thanks. BTW, in my response I was writing to you about...
I didn't mean male voicing's... TOday many females that call themselves mezzo-sop are really singing identicle voicings to the rock female vocalists that called themselves alto's and Chest belt tenor's in the early 1970's
I knew this one girl who was literally a baritone..... She made Tracy Chapman sound like minnie ripperton

I'm referring to it as baritone, because I'm trying to be polite. It was more along the lines of a basso-profundo.
