I am stumped and maybe someone here can help. I haven't joined the MTU forum because I haven't purchased the hoster yet, just trying it out.

Here is the problem. I built a brand new 3U rackmount computer. It's running AMD 3700+ on a ASUS motherboard with built in Nvidia video and chipset. Also has built in audio. I will be adding new video and audio cards soon. I also have Plextor PX-760A DVD burner and Maxtor DiamondMax 300GB SATA drive. Last hardware I added was Realtek chipset GigEthernet card.

I installed a brand new Windows XP on it. Added a few software to it, like Wimamp, Ashampoo CD copying software, Power CD-G player and Power CD-G burner.

Then I downloaded the demo version of the MTU. When I install it, It kills the ASPI drive and I can't access the DVD burner. It comes up and says the DVD burner driver is corrupted and can't be used. I tried to add several versions of ASPI drivers and no go. I still can't access it. So, I reinstalled the XP and it worked until I installed the MTU Hoster again and it did the same thing.

I am stumped on what to do next. Maybe I should use something else if I can't solve this issue. Any clues?

eben, don't wait joining their forum.  Go ahead and get in there and get your question posted. I'll try looking myself and see what I can find also.  I'm thinking it's still a driver issue.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the info. I have already tried that several times. I have loaded several different ASPI drivers and it doesn't work. When I check it with my hardware configuration, it says the driver is corrupted and my CD icon have yellow caution flag on it. Replacing with several ASPI drivers and rebooting doesn't work. It may have to do with regitry problem, which I am not good at diagnosting. I may have to join the forum and ask but I have a feeling this won't fix. I may have to reinstall and try different software combination to find out the conflict and that may take a while. Thanks again for the help.

here is a funny thing. I once had that problem with a drive I knew to be cdg capable and it did not work until I loaded CDRwin's aspi drivers which can be gotten at www.goldenhawk.com for free.

Woah, strange thing just happend. I was going to reformat and try it again. I thought I'd give one more thing a try. I reinstalled all my applications, Winamp, Ashampoo Burning Studio, Power CD+G burner and Power CD+G Player Pro. I then rebooted and the drive is now back. It's the strangest thing I have seen. I don't know if it will stay but it seems to have fixed the problem somehow. Before I rebooted, all the programs still had problems seeing the drive. I will keep you informed. Thanks everyone.

Ok, I am on my way with the Hoster. I like the way it does things and it's pretty rock solid. I have one more question for you. I noticed that the database lacks a bunch of discs I have. Do I really need to manually enter them? Is there a way to update the database to the latest somehow so I can avoid typing? Some of the discs not in the database are Supercore 2005, one of the Foundation 1 discs (one with Christmas songs on them), few of the Chartbuster collections (I may be able to do single discs on these but haven't tried it).  Any suggestions?

More than likely use the freedb button, and it will find the disk info you need on the internet. they do have most of the newer disk there. otherwise enter the data.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that button and it did not work for me. From way I understand from the Hoster manual is that I fill out the manufacturer and the disc number and hit the freedb button and it will look up for me. I tried about 3-4 discs and it came back negative. I don't know if the possible demise of freedb is the reason (couple of guys left and they are ready to shut down the site, see freedb.org for more info). Can you tell me if I am doing it wrong or have better suggestions? Thanks again.

I am definitely connected to the Internet. So, let me ask you another question. I have been manually selecting the discs from the database. From what you are saying, all I have to do is insert the disc and hit Freedb button and it looks it up for you? I was hoping that is the way it works but it didn't work for me.

I manually select them if they are in the database.

If they are not, then let freedb do the work.

it works just like the disklabel maker programs ......... the disk has an id code on it somewhere from the MFG. and is transmitted to freebd which looks it up.
