Shoot, I thought I got banned. I couldn't get in to the Singer's Showcase and then after a bit the forums. I actually called the phone number in California to ask if I had been banned. At first I thought the site had gone down then I noticed a new submission in the Showcase and by Gilly in the forums so that made me nervous. But yeehaw! I'm here so I guess I won't go on any more tangents for a while. (Whew!) I don't know what happened. I haven't heard anything from the site yet. I emailed and called so I must be addicted to this site already. Holy Crapola Batman!

Hiya Jeff.
Sorry if it sounded like I was beatin' up on you - it really wasn't my intention.  And I'm sure it wasn't your intention to purposely not acknowledge my comment or anyone elses for that matter. The point I was trying to make is; if you want people to respond to you - then you have to respond to them.  It's lke Sinatra once said (albeit a bit crude, but it makes the point) "You can be the most artistically perfect performer in the world, but an audience is like a broad - if you're indifferent, Endsville". So take it for what its worth, keep on subbing (cause ya got the talent!) and above all.....have fun!  By the way, I really liked your Willie Nelson.....Lee.

The site just called me back. That was pretty cool. Talked real briefly with someone.....

I was pretty sure I wouldn't hear anything but sure enough...

I'm impressed.

Bones, I just went in and left replies on the new ones and listened to some of the music on those that left comments. Some are awesome. Howver, I think my headaches recently are from sitting on this computer for hours on end so for right now I will put this on the back burner. (Eyes are sore, neck is sore, headache coming back) Haven't worked out now in 8 days. Thanks Karaoke Scene!  LOL

I may go do that now. I need a breather. Gotta see what time they close....

No. Are you planning on getting spayed or neutured anytime soon?  :O  :O  :O

Actually I would do it if I had it. I always liked that song and would sing it for fun when i was bored. It got to a whole new level after I saw Clockwork Orange. -took on a whole new meaning-

Hey Jeff, you mentioned going back and looking at comments you've left - if you go to your profile page, click "view all " you will see all the comments you've left and the replies given by the recipients. Hope this helps!! I haven't been around much - some one close to me died recently, but you have some kewl songs posted that I'll be checking out soon.  :)

Vette lady,  what are the rough dimensions of that lake you live on... How much water between you, and those living on the opposite side of that lake ?

I lived by this reservoir once... Had nightmares that there was a monster in the bottom, that was trying to get into my house, and eat me...  I suppose this is normal for a youngster in the 2nd grade though..

(I was still in my 30's in those days)

I had the measle's when I was about 6.. Fever of 105 for close to a week (in fact the doctor's think that's what the actual problem is, too much swelling upstairs, but that aside)..  I had this wooden clothes giraffe, and it started walking around the room, with these really wide eyes..... and it started looking REALLY hungry... so I got my mom to throw it out....  Same with the cowboy that sat on the top of the telephone pole nights aiming to shoot me......  Finally got curtains so he couldn't see me anymore.... (Had no idea about shadow's and transformers in those days).... Had a really nice crib next to the wall of peeling paint too...  I'd chip off pieces and make really interesting shapes... great snack too !!

LMAO Steve - interesting post. Anyway I don't live on a lake, I live on a river - but this is a weird location...a very prime one. I'm on a small point on a riverbend with a large bay off to the left, the river ahead and to the right...I can see water in 3 directions when I go outside...its pretty kewl. This river leads from Lake Huron and is part of an inland waterway that is about 41 miles long and that goes through 3 pretty good size lakes. Also the river splits about 3/4's of a mile up from here so when I go kayaking I can vary which way I go. I have neighbors but no one too close luckily.

Ya know I just figured out how to go back and look at replies.
On my last song I replied to everyone who left a comment, but
before that I was just getting used to how things worked. I hope
I didn't offend anyone by not responding. I didn't realise it was etiquette
to respond.

Thank you for posting that - I will be sure to respond from now on

Well I see no one's answered my questions, and that's cool, not a problem.

James,

I don't know if this is the answer you are looking for or not; someplace on this site KS says that they set up SS so one can only listen, not copy.  If I recall correctly copyright infringment was cited as the principle reason for this.

I think that many people lose sight of the fact that, in general, copying a copyrighted work is okay as long as it is for personal use.  For example, no one is going to try to stop you from converting your CD collection to MP3s and then loading them on your IPOD.  But when you sell that IPOD and it's got 80 gazillion (for purposes of getting my point across I am wildly inflating the capacity of an IPOD) somebody's going to come knocking at your door.

My impression is that KS is comfortable with things as they are because no one is making money off the dissemination of copyrighted material.  This is, as you have pointed out, all in fun so why should anybody get a burr under their saddle over what amounts to something that does not economic harm.  And believe me, it's the exconomics that are bothersome to the owners of the copyrights.

I'm not commenting here about the legality of SS or am I speaking as a representative of KS.  I'm simply echoing my understanding of what I read.

Larry

Thank you so much Larry for taking the time in answering my questions. You're comments are indeed that answers that I was looking for. Like I said, I think the SS is great. At the forums, we see a name, we know where they live, etc. But hearing a voice behind the name really gives you a sense of what the person is all about in my opinion, it makes them even more real. Especially if some of the tunes are taken from live performances, it's the next best thing to being there. My confusion was based on heated exchanges by certain members about copying, converting, originals, blah, blah, blah.
The freedom to post material from other sources is something that I'm not use to, so I come from the viewpoint of never assume, it's better to ask ahead of time.
Again, thank you for your time and comments. I think the way you summed it up will also put other KS newbies at ease in regards to posting their tunes on the SS.
Respectfully yours,
James H. Gilbert

Oh man, I gotta stop posting the morning after the night before.  I just looked at my last post and am terribly embarrassed at the misspellings and words I left out.  I believe my brain thinks in complete sentences but for some reason my fingers don't type all of the words I think.

Anyway, I just went to the SS and found the infomation I referenced in my last post.  You can find it in the FAQs—it's the next to last one and the subject is why we can't download the subs.  The conclusions I've drawn from this are my own so please don't make me out to be an expert.  Nor should you call me to testivy in a court case except: 1) the case is being heard in Hawaii; and 2) all my expenses are being paid, including hula lessons from at least two beautiful island girls.  If price is an object, a one-way ticket would probably suffice.

Must be nice to have brain that thinks in complete sentences. Mine uses pop-up type pages with pictures only.

I dunno.  Sometimes I think pop-ups with pictures would be welcome.  I like pictures.  But knowing me, the pictures would be dirty and I'd never get anything done.
