I think it was a lemon, I'm not sure now. It was pretty dark.

I was just outside on a cigarette break and was reflecting on a few things (always dangerous when I do) but for Jeff:

It occurred to me since subbing songs here that on occasion I've had folks suggest some different genre they'd like me to try (I haven't had a request for something by Meat Loaf--I'll put it this way) but often they material they, having heard me sing, suggest is not so far fetched after all (and these are styles I'd never have considered doing before), so in this way, I've done a few do-wops and country tune or two and after careful listening and based on responses I've had, they came out pretty well after all.

I've listened to you latest submission, which was very good and here are some ideas for you to try:  do-wop (I'm thinking along the lines of "Run Around Sue", songs of that nature), maybe a Beatles ballad and Dean Martin's "Memories are Made of This" or his "Sway".

Speaking of genres, I think I've figured out (more or less--I'm not familiar with a lot of contemporary sounds going around these days) that can be categorized as being sort of "unto" themselves may be difficult to go from one to the other:

1.  Rock, metal, rock and roll, new wave, rap, hip hop (can probably blend into country, R&B,  and a lot of times, I've seen rock musicians do pretty good work on the standards).
2.  Swing, jazz, the standards, etc.--can probably blend into R&B, do wop, pop, country.
3.  Country, bluegrass, etc--probably can shift to rock and roll, oldies and standards (although the conventional norm for standards is to lose the "country" accent but this can succeed)
4.  Opera.  I don't know about you guys but I never like when opera singers sing stuff other than opera--it just sounds too stiff and studied to be enjoyable.  Just my opinion on that one.
5.  I had to think about this last one but folk music takes a certain feel to it in order to sound right.  I'm thinking of Burl Ives, who on a casual listen sounded pretty plain and straightforward but on careful evaluation knew what he was doing with his phrasing.  I think with folk you need to have some excellent phrasing but it needs to have an overall simple approach.

Okay, for this kind of profound and erudite, I usually demand a fee of one case of Mars Bars and/or a bucket of chicken and/or a complete dining room set from Broyhill Furniture (is "The Price is Right" the only place to get Broyhill Furniture? And if so, do you have to win it?  Can you make a deal to just purchase it from them via the production company?)

Okay, I'm a bit confused, so bear with me.
When I post my music at AcidPlanet/SonicFoundry/Sony, I use material from sample and sound disc. By purchasing them, I can use them royalty free for any composition that I may create, whether it be amateur or for professional use.

My question is that since the songs that are being used in the SS forum are copyrighted material, how does this sight get around the legal formalities. Each of my disc have it clearly stated:
'Warning, use of this pre-recorded material contained herein in any manner for the reproduction of recordings for sale, rental or distribution without the prior written consent of the copyright owner of the rights herein is a violation of the U.S. Copyright Law and is strictly prohibited. Unauthorized public performance, rental or broadcast transmission in part or whole is strictly prohibited. All rights reserved.'

So is the SS forum restricted to members only, or is the internet public allowed access to it as well? If that's the case then how does KS get around this? Are each of the songs posted cleared by the particular companies. Does KS charge a fee for posting material which is paid to the companies? How do they know which vendor the disc comes from? Sorry, I'm just a bit lost and confused by all of this.
Most music sites that I've ever been to, reproducing and posting copyrighted material is the best and quickest way to get yourself booted off. They will only allow original compositions, or works used with written permission by the publishing company itself. And you actually have to send them a copy of your clearance letter.

And trust me, I'm not being argumentive, just kinda curious.

Holy crap maninblack, don't ask questions that we won't like the answers to. This is an innocent little site until someone tattles that we're making recordings on these magical karaoke discs. I believe you;re right. That is a copyright infringement.  So don't a tella no-body, den okay!

Such licentious pulchritude! Just ribbing you...10cc I'm world famous for making innocent comments like that from time to time.  People start laughing and I'm thinking"What? Is there a fried egg on my head? What are they chuckling about?" I never get it, and even after they immediately tell me what I just said I'm still clueless for a moment.  See you and are I geniuses but we just don't know it--we do this stuff all the time!

I'm more frugal. I go to Naturopathic stores and get the non-regulated generic stuff, saves alot of headaches. Just make sure the clerk know's brand substitutes. In lieu of shelf location proximity, people searching for pulchritude might accidently take home Pugnacity. The affects are quite different !  Pugnacity doesn't release GABA.

Steve, I recommend you "ask your doctor about Roladex or the generic equivalent, ibepokin, take 25 mg b.i.d. and your all set up for another imbraglio--of any and all kinds, but limited to normal outbreaks and not exceptional mishaps such as Billy Barty stabbing you in the ear with a rusty crowbar--not just stuck in there, but lodged in there--you can't push it in and you certainly don't want to pull it out--and swinging on it for a half our or so. Maybe the Flying Wallendas shuffle by a and Billy says "Hey guys! Come up here and do your act for Steve--it's fun!"

This won't work for that.

This is the output of a very tired cranium...man I wish they'd find a cure for insomnia--and don't tell me the best cure is to get plenty of sleep. Why, Bang! Zoooooom!

Actually there are a few things that one should never have in a bedroom with insomnia, assuming you do.. but ONE thing in particular is a computer.. This was explained to me.  Instead of doing something to try to calm myself, Instead I'd be getting more stimuli in chat venues... This laptop isn't supposed to be here over the bed while it's dark and I'm getting ready to drift.... Because just like putting off other important things and yacking online,  Sleep often ends up on my "boring" list, and takes backseat to my yacking, or browsing the web reading about stuff I find interesting, not relaxing... Anyway,  one of the best cures for insomnia, is more fresh air during the day, and exercise,  perhaps cutting cafeine consumption after 3 PM.... something like that.... WALKING outdoors,  walk at least 1/2 hour.... If you get fresh air, it helps you sleep at night...   Don't do what I tried to do however,  The pedal machine, and straw hooked up to aquarium tubing running out the window while typing in here doesn't work...

Thanks for the advise Dr. K! I've tried every conceivable method/practice known thorough the ages since the age of 12 to vanquish this malady. My parents actually had a specialist come all the way from Canada to look upside my head--back in those days, they didn't have "sleep clinics" or such things. I remember this practitioner because he spent two days with us and my folks were passing him off as this "Uncle from Minnsota".  About the only relief I got was when he left because he kept asking numerous questions any time I blinked.

My usual nighttime routine--and this seems to work for me--is to lay in bed, read for a couple hours and knock off.  I love reading--for me, it is truly the greatest gift in the world.  Then every four months or so I can anticipate these periods I'm experiencing now.  Nothing will work.  I find I can pass the evenings more comfortably BS'ing on the computer, or working on my movies I make or..well anything that keeps me at least semi-mentally stimulated (I don't feel so lonely--that is the worst part when you can't sleep at 3:00 am and you just feel like you're the only bipod on Earth).

In an attempt to derive something creative from all this, I'm working on a new product line extension based on the general product specs of your common Towlette.  Same product, same packaging, just the addition of a little chloroform.
Now is that a sensational idea or what?

Man, whatta brain I am sometimes!
