I started my singer's showcase stuff with a Frank Sinatra tune, moved into two Willie Nelson songs and now have done Nirvana and The Smiths.

Now the poor people who commented on my first couple of songs were certainly expecting more of the same and I think I melted their machines with Nirvana and The Smiths. They were probably going...."What the heck was that crap?"

One of the KJ's from our area (Jimmie Lee) years ago told me I was the most ecclectic singer he had ever seen (outside of himself  He added a qualifier). He would put something on that I didn't ask for on slow nights and I would just sing it. He used to let me do triple shots when it was slow which of course all karaoke freaks like myself love.

When I used to DJ on KIND radio in San Marcos I used to follow Consolidated with Journey and such. I just played good music and didn't stay in any format and my karaoke is the same. Is that a problem or a good thing?  Anyone else do a solid work of different styles and music?

I have done The Sex Pistols "My Way" many times in a kicker bar in South Austin, wednesday nights at Stardust.  I am warming up their other Sound Choice Classic, Anarchy in the UK. My Way sometimes gets dancers and peeps saying wow and other times the sagebrush blows across the stage and I hear the sound of the wind....across the prairie. When is different a problem?

Jeff, I think you should stick with the Nirvana and Willie Nelson and their respective genres.  I'm just being honest here, but your Sinatra take was quite bad.  This probably is not the type of music for you--I'm not saying you're a bad singer though!
I would love to hear you do more of what you do best.

Regarding the "hidden agenda" I haven't found that to be the case so far, whatever appeals to people will usually please them.

I'm laughing because I think your comments are pretty cool even though I like my Sinatra.  I thought I WAS Sinatra for a few days. Wow!  :whistle:

No Jeff, I am not meaning to hurt you or anything and believe it or not I have listened to all your songs.  Then again, mostly all I do on this site is Sinatra and that kind of music but like you I try experimenting with different things.  You are right about one thing and that is everyone will have their own taste and preferences in what they find good listening; this was just my opinion, and only regarding that particular brand of music.  By all means, keep working on the Sinatra and Friends music if you like it--one gets better all the time.  My inferrence was that on the upside you have a fine voice which, for now anyway, is best suited in the other genres you've done.

Okay, put out the flame! Vooooooooooooooooooooof!!!

I haven't subbed in a while, but when I do I think I will ask for some criticism by PM. Honest stuff like Michael gave.

How you handle the criticism shows your true nature. I don't know if I could have handled it as weel at the moment.

Jeff, I dunno if I've listened to you.... My old age and "almost gramma" status are making my memory fuzzy. (or..could be the Vodka, but...what-the-hell-ever)

When I go home today, after a trip to the auto parts store. (dayum brakes & rotors need replaced...immediately...Charmin can barely stop as it is, haha)

I'm gonna do some listening on SS, I'll look you up. Not that I'm no pro critiquer, heck- I hate to critique at all.... But now you got me curious to hear you.

I need to back up a sec and explain I wasn't trying to make this a "critique" theme..my idea here was Jeff stating people wanted him to stick with one genre--but to be fair, let's try it this way.  Jeff, I have a sub of "Summer Wind" (by coincidence) on page two of the Showcase and in my profile page you will find "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".  Feel free to submit a critique--I can tell you right now, the latter tune definitely is a type I should stay away from--it's just not there, but I enjoyed singing it.

I'll probably get ganged up on now and be forced to stand on my head while sucking a black jellybean out of a little dixie cup full of Chinese Mustard or some other draconian form of punishment....

Can you show us that even if we don't gang-up on you?

It's a spectacle better conveyed in writing or oral narrative--seeing this stunt performed is a bit harsh for most people.  Usually men will cry, women will faint and children will scream the last time I saw this pulled off.

Michael..... I certainly did not mean anything against what you said. It appears to me that Jeff appreciated your honesty. Who could argue with that? It's nice to see some refreshing honesty around here. And if that's what you thought, you should certainly say so.  :D

I was just, uh.... continuing my flirt with Jeff from another thread. (how shamefull of me... sorry) And, I honestly haven't heard him sing, if I have, it's been a few days. It's hard to recall everyone you listen to, until you've listened to that person ALOT.
