This subject has been born from the influx of new information from the Summit, so I will use it to spurn a new direction of discussion. It kind of comes from some areas I dabbled in during my college years and shortly after, so it has been a while, but maybe still applicable...

If the publishers were to start going directly after KJs, what is it that would cause them to go after them with more aggression than they have the much larger group of DJs in the US? Some obvious reasons come to mind, but I will let you more experienced persons start the ball rolling...

Also, if they do get more directly involved, could it possibly open up a more economic value for the KJ if somehow, for an example, they were a part of developing "karaoke pooling" or something of that nature (I guess you could look at Digitrax as a similar concept as this)...

"Going After" is so 1980s..

How about providing a product that is usable, fairly priced, and watch the profits roll in.

i think what DWYL was going after was that SC is now enlisting the publishers to hunt KJ's for out of business manus that they can not sue for themselves.

as far as the publishers getting involved in DISTRIBUTING new karaoke music themselves....

What I find amusing is SC and CB/PR/WW are going to invoke the threat of publishers getting involved, when both the SC and CB labels have been sued by these same publishers. I'm sure that they have a great relationship with these publishers considering their track records.

are these the same publishers that will not give SC permission to produce anything?

I'm starting to think this is another one of those stories like the orphans at one time were all going to be adopted. They are all still in the orphanage even SGB who was supposed to have been adopted by the now defunct CB. I guess the orphan was taken away and put back in the system, since the adopting parent had no visible means of support.

If the publishers want to do something meaningful and positive, one suggestion might be to offer a use license of some sort to cover defunct/non-licensed brands of music, and then let the manus police their own existing product. That is, of course, if legally, the publishers even have the positioning to offer something like that. It might be that some court would have to decide that. The positive approach seems more beneficial in the long run, since I doubt that publishers and/or the labels would want to incur more of the black eye they did in the 2000s with their lawsuits (I understand that was on more of an individual level, as opposed to commercial, but the perception of black eyes to the general public would have much of the same effect despite who is being pursued)...

If the publishers and recording artist would just do their own Karaoke the would put ALL manu's out of business. All they have to do is take the original music and add the graphics and then not license it to anyone else!

Don't say it can't be done Taylor Swift has done it, but she allowed other manu's to make her stuff too. She should have just let Big Machine do it and only them.

I think many folks here are not seeing the full picture in regard to what could happen if the publishers/owners decide to get involved.

I'm not so sure all would appreciate Kurt slapping them awake.

If they do awaken, just remember who did it.....

....and we'll see what happens....

You can bet Joe if the publishers get involved they are going after the big fish first. They are not going to be bottom feeding, that means the manus SC and CB/DTE will be in their sights up front. Then down the pecking order, by the time they get down to the little mom and pop single operator, they probably will feel it's not worth the trouble. Retirement is looking better all the time. P.S. Did you ever think Kurt might just not care if he brings everything down, the SC legal process is not going well, he has the publishers themselves suing him, there is legal actions going on with APS and CAVS any of which could negatively effect SC's bottom line. It could be it is just a matter of time before SC is torpedoed and he is going to take as many with him as he can.

Just remember.....they can't put these stories on the internet.......if they weren't true........

Did you ever think that this might be the parting shot from Kurt, after becoming an industry failure through mismanagent? Kind of a "If I can't have it no one else can" sort of a sicko move?
