Hi y'all I've made a few instrumental covers + videos, uploaded to my youtube's account, and though I always leave a note for record companies and copyright holders, I don't really know if I can get myself into trouble for that, even though it's not for commercial purposes at all and, generally, those are versions that you can't find anywhere so I decided to make it myself. So that's my question. Am I running into trouble for that or simply removing, when asked, the videos from site will fix the issue? Thanks in advance. |

I checked out your youtube stuff and thought it was great. Keep up the good work. How about some Jethro Tull music like Hymn 43? |

Thank you, Bruce. I gave a listen to that JT's song and I like it, and I can't find it anywhere for karaoke (two of my requirements for making a karaoke version). The problem is the third one, time, since I'm actually working in a few versions and improving some old ones. Anyway, i write it on my todo list and will keep you posted. However, I still don't know if these versions I'm doing will get me into trouble of some kind. Any words on that matter? |

The only people that seem to be going after Karaoke hosts in any way shape or form are the good people from Sound Choice. No one else seems to pay any mind at all to the karaoke business as long as the venue is paying their BMI fees and the like. As far as Sound Choice is concerned; they only seem to care about the people that are playing the tracks that they produced from a computer instead of from the original discs that they purchased; and hardly any of those cases ever make it in front of a judge OR jury. I would say that your odds of being prosecuted for a hobby that you aren't making any money from is about a billion to one. There are literally thousands of home made karaoke tracks out there and no one is being hassled over it. Plenty of karaoke products that were mass produced and sold for big money weren't properly licensed, if licensed at all, so I don't think that your karaoke tracks will become a high priority for anyone. I've made a couple thousand of them and no one has come knocking on my door yet to tell me to knock it off. Have fun until someone with some authority tells you to stop. |
