See that article is kind of misleading. It mentions not to take that homemade Bon Jovi track to the bar because the bar may not have paid the performance rights (ASCAP/BMI/etc) for that song. But it makes it sound as if they DO pay their PRO fees, that would cover the homemade track as well. Since the bar has to pay those fees, they cannot just pay for one song, it's a blanket coverage for all songs played. |

That's what I thought too, Lonnie. If the venue didn't pay their fees your homemade tracks are no different than a Sound Choice track. They will get fined for using either one of them. and if they pay their fees, the same thing applies. Both tracks would be okay to play as far as BMI and ASCAP were concerned. |
