Post subject: | Starting a Karaoke business- Legal questions. |
I am very interested in opening up a Box style Karaoke club. I know other karaoke box places use digitized music in their clubs on hard drives. How do these places get these songs, and is it legal? Is it going to be legal to use Chinese, Japanese, and Korean songs as well as English ones? Any help and advice is appreciated. Thank you |

I read info about Kroaky’s in the forum but I never visited the site – until now. Huge song library but manus not identified. I checked “Eagles” (obvious curiosity) , I think it’s Zoom - Eagles medley 1 & 2 listed. I would be remiss if I didn’t say I’m impressed with the room set-up & room hourly rates. Nice place to hold private parties for family & friends. It’s something I would like to tap into when I retire. Extend hard earned $$ out of my rigs & cdgs to good use. Probably have to buy more cdg sets. 4 rooms, 4 set (1:1). http://www.kroakys.com/ |

As long as you pay for your music from a reliable source, not hard drive sellers, and pay the performance fees to ascap and the like, you should be okay. |

I saw Kroaky's earlier posts from search. I will shoot them a email. Can Hard drive sellers get me into trouble? I noticed the Karaoke places in my old city use them. One place even just has a computer hooked up to a TV and Audio receiver. This place has been in business for many years. Is this illegal? |

Brian A wrote: Probably have to buy more cdg sets. 4 rooms, 4 set (1:1) Brian, I believe they use a server (in house) and Unify Karaoke software. The songs can only be played by one room at a time. They have quite a large SC library. |

If you are running from a laptop with a HD and all the music is ripped to it and you DON'T have the original discs then YES you can get in trouble and it is ILLEGAL! There are Manufactures out there that are suing KJ's for having their music ripped to HD's without permission. There are numerous posts on this board concerning this subject. |
