I will leave him nameless at this point, but he was at my show on Tuesday. He's a nice guy, very good bluegrass singer. I hope he comes back (with his friend) because I love bluegrass. I was tipped off last night as to who he was by another person that was approached by him and identified himself as an SC investigator.. I have nothing to hide as I am 100% legal, but he kept asking for songs not in the Gem Series, and then asking about songs I played that I have SC discs for. It sure is nice to not have to worry about being legal or not.

Sounds bogus to me..... A Private Investigator wouldn't identify himself as such to anyone if he's on a case. If he is, I'm sure Mr. Harrington will have a lot to say about that. That being said, I think someone is pulling one on you, and whoever was asking you all sorts of questions probably was just playing the part (for whatever ulterior motive).

While I agree with most of this--I doubt the person was a SC investigator--Oregon is actually handled by another attorney who is in control of his own investigators, and he may well have instructed them to be open about it.

The reason that all police cars aren't unmarked is because their KNOWN presence works to deter violators. I am sure that it would greatly reduce trademark infringement, if a technical, or a true infringer, was aware of an invetigator's PRESENCE. Fear through PRESENCE can be a powerful tool. A quick sweep through an area vs doing a secret investigation, I bet, would clear out infringers much faster. Food for thought.
Receiving a warning for a traffic violation deters violators for a while, but in the karaoke world, once an infringer has been warned the risk can go much higher. I will bet that if he is a true infringer (not technical infringer), he won't be playing SC anytime real soon.

But, you have to remember the whole point is to make money for Slep-Tone so they can live off lawsuits. They aren't interested in just stopping people from playing pirated Karaoke. This whole thing is NOT about benefit to hosts. It is ALL about filling Kurt's pockets. They could very easily deter MANY pirates from doing what they do, but that would bring in any money.

I should have said an investigator working on behalf of SC. He is not an employee of SC. But, he did ask another venue for proof of ownership of SC material. That's what I know about him. Plus, his dealings with me. I know the previous investigator from Salem. Have talked to him several times. This guy is from Oregon City.

Cue, I believe you and I have been down this road before. It's not bogus. There are alot of us kj's in this area that are a fairly tight knit group. Word travels fast. I know the venue and the owner well that he approached. It happened as I said. I have no reason to lie.

I too have met the Oregon Chief Investigator for SC. Also the individual whom is reffered to by the OP. However there is a new Attorney representing SC in Oregon and he is based out of Salem, Oregon and is listed on the new 33 enitity lawsuit docket. And there are numerous investigators in different regions of the state sniffing out pirating Kj's and venues.

What happened to the original one? I can't ever remember seeing a company that had such a huge turn over in legal firms... It almost seems as though every action start with one attorney and invariably gets screwed up.... they miss a date.... claim to the court the fired their attorney.... got a new attorney.... and they don't do what the client wants... etc... wow!

Now, from what SwingcatKurt just said in addition to your post/s, I guess I stand being corrected.
