Latshaw Systems posted the following on the FB page. Lets see what SC/Digitrax ect have to post about this. An update to the previous post. I just got off a 3 way phone call with representatives of karaoke.com (also here in Baltimore) and Digitrax (karaoke cloud). I don't know if it's timing or pure coincidence, but the evidently the American publishers have finally caved on their downloading rules. I was called to be informed that Digitrax will be offering MP3+G downloads (not rentals) and now has the legal authority to do so, and they will be carrying content from Amercian karaoke producers as early as next month when their site goes live. However, because of the fact that the music publishers have different contracts in each country, the concept of iCroons and a single one stop portal to connect you to all the different sites around the world would still be a legal liability for us, so instead of integrating just an American site's catalog into Karma, we will stick with our current model of having web links to all of them so users can "shop" different sites and decide for themselves. I can't emphasize enough that this is good news, and that my point about a little rebellion being a good thing still holds true. The pirates, combined with other countries leading the way have forced the American publishers hand and this is a good thing. I've already been invited to speak again at the next karaoke summit in Las Vegas and I will still push for making the KJs job easier and still push for the legal right to offer something like iCroons that can combine different countries offerings. We are making progress, and the future of karaoke is bright. Stay tuned, and we'll keep you posted. |

Per digitrax, Latshaw has misunderstood something and domestic download licencing is NOT being allowed by US publishers |

So you know something more than the first-hand conversation he just reported? How's that? |

I always verify second hand information. I just sent some emails personally and received the info directly. Email addresses for Digitrax are available online for anyone wishing to contact them. Athena |

kjathena wrote: Per digitrax, Latshaw has misunderstood something and domestic download licencing is NOT being allowed by US publishers This does not mean that Latshaw has actually misunderstood anything, only that Digitrax doesn't agree with Digitrax point of view ( which, of course, is the point of view from which they hope to derive an income). However, Athena is correct in regard to the lack of download licensing availability. |

If downloading becomes "legal" and highly available, no one will need SC and they will go the way of the Dinosaur. Kurt is losing his grip on the Karaoke Kingdom and he doesn't like it. Maybe he should have kept making music like others did, instead of just suing people. |

It's really beginning to sound like no one knows the rules. Which is why we have so much stuff going on with ripping, is it legal or not. |

And it will take someone standing up all the way to a conclusion for you guys to find out if it is "legal", "illegal", or, for lack of a better term, "non-legal"--the grey area has been eluded to on this forum many times in the past...so many companies reside and do much of their revenue-generating work in this grey area..... |

There is nothing inherently illegal about a license given for downloading content, as long as the publishers agree. To my knowledge, they have never been willing to agree to it at an economically reasonable price, and they have rarely been willing to discuss it. |

but purchasing a product direct form the manu (such as sunfly or zoom) is legal even in the states, only the delivery method changes. like purchasing a disc where the fees to make a disc are paid following MCPS / PRS rules is legal to purchase and use but not resell, purchasing a download where the fees to make a download are paid following MCPS / PRS rules is legal to purchase and use but not resell. the American producers and rights holders are paid through MCPS / PRS, enough to not make a stink about it happening in the U.K. (example, my Sunfly Eagles disc of banned in the U.S.A. songs) is fine for me to use, if this was a problem to the Producers, would it have not been banned like they did with import for resale? that stunt only proves that the only reason they do not like it is that they can screw Americans out of more money. it's not legal in the U.S. to put out Garth Brooks songs anymore, but in the U.K. where the GEM is licensed it is totally legal, so why not just follow to the next logical step and get the U.K. download licensing and sell direct to consumers from Mediaplas, or wherever in the U.K. |

I will continue to download from U.K. sites. I like the quality, and the prices are reasonable. Plus, it's convenient. |

The MCPS "PRS for Music" license no longer covers the U.S. Material that was produced and first sold before that changed is still covered. |
